All wheel disc conversion
jono replied to YaBoyKingsley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you overhaul your current standard brakes all round including caliper overhaul and all new hoses SLA ves and fluid you could be surprised how good it can be - I was! Nearly as good as when I put RX discs on my other ute rear. Think disc rear from ea82 four wheel drive will bolt up easy -
Egr delete did not give me any noticeable power gains but now have lurvley smooth idle even down to about 600 rpm Something not had since this engine went in this beast after sitting around for a bit

Subaru used to specify the capacity of the radiator in the cooling system section with the EA81 and forgot to include it in factory manual for the EA82 likely coz it was less Anyone have an ej factory manual with that spec please? Curious to know if legacy radiators greater than ea81 twin cote 1.2 litres Thanks
-
Hey Bennie, yeah thanks. Great work on finding the post but missing pics as you say, lost a few thousand words when botophucket drops out No harm as not sound like he reveals much other than it was long term a disaster as turbo I'll ignore that and keep plodding along

Bumped this for fu.n

Sorry should explain engine is in Brumby and only circuitry be in the den so dizzy. Blanking plate three bond cured overnight runs at 1200 so adjusted until I get new egr
-
Reading my specs right our old subes do a 5.5 litre cooling system capacity 1.2 litres of that is included but is the reservoir bottle! Think 81 rad is 1.2 litres and 82 rad capacity not listed ( due to shame its less than ea81?) Not an awful lot of coolant actually in the engine

My egr has not done much work since installed in a clean condition 15000 km if that Just disconnected it to see if it was cause of lumpy idle and started up first time today, drove off to find once warmed up she idles about 1200 - throttle body vac port plugged. So connected egr again to find idle back to 800 Something dicky in the egr me thinks

GO Turbine! Great suggestion. Why does OP call it a restrictor cat? What did you do to find it was problem? Whadja do to fix?
-
yeah, I saw not including tie rods before you capitalised and under lined it but like i said some people refer to the inner tie rods as rack ends, unknown if that include you ! The actual rack shaft length of my PS unit from EA82 is 605mm and has female thread end so EA81 inner tie rods / rack ends wont just thread up to them by mistake on the assembly line as they made EA81 and EA82 same years, dunno if at same plant. You owe me some hand cleaner for that one

bringing back memories of Gentle Ben the lads ought to be proud of their joint efforts. It looks great and very professional spfi inlet manifold huh?

EA81 exhaust... so this happened...
jono replied to Knucklehead Saloon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
And if you wanna get rid of that racket under the bonnet and get some refined revness - a tidy EA82 and a five speed youll be amazed - the cabin gets so quiet it is worth switching on the sounds in the dash -
Had a bit of a read, search and still come up with zip Bennie. I still have to make this thing run and drive before I am gonna pat self on back Be more like a slap in the face if I dont rebuild the base before hand. Shoot, a turbo on a full compression EA81 with half a million km on it be asking for trouble. Yeah, it is a long time. My old PC went to crap about time i ditched my ISP. Then at some stage I need to thank all the doctors, nurses and support staff that at least got me back on my feet ( well OK, I was wheeled out of ICU warmer than others) I developed severe bilateral pnuemonia that took nearly sixty hours to diagnose. Same as that new bride on her honeymoon out in the Pacific this year. Diagnosis did not come until after her death from the sounds of things. Took almost a year to get the mo part of my mojo back, working on the second half - and my bucket list
-
I may be able to help if you can be more specific. Rack ends often called inner tie rod. You want them in the measure or where the rack itself ends and inners screw to

Plans for dizzy are either mad boost control attachment or stick ea81 dist drive cog on a Series One EA82T four pin module dizzy and knock control box Be feeding it propane so need to rig up turbo to throttle body stuff
-
This is my mock up of EA82T stuff o to my 510,000 km 92 EA81 It has an imported from the US EA82 spfi intake manifold up to including the throttle body - no more. Fitted an M16 1.5 brass barb to the temp sender port to return coolant from the VF4 EA82T exhaust cross pipe is on, switched stud holes in the heads exhaust port. EA82T coolant pipe from the rhs heads drain plug to feed the turbo ...I'd swear the pipe was made for clearing EA81 head and rocker before it saw an EA82 of any description One or two snags seem to be the turbo alloy bolt on section clearing egr in port but filed it down to clear...likely require work on egr pipe but to work...maybe not such a chunky hex One bolt of the inlet manifold needs its mount point reduced in height by about 10 mm A trip to a hose maker to get oil from switch port up to the turbo banjo bolt and likely a port for idiot light and gauge up near turbo for ease of access And that is about where I am Love to know if anyone ever used spfi for turbo before me

Noticed a favorite seller of rocks coil collection is a whole near 3 inch diameter! Is this a fat coil or what? Fatter spark? Anyone have one in an EA?

Great stuff. Join the club in wasting time thus week to find it was the module the whole time! I overhauled my fuel system components before swapping in a used module I had kicking about
