  1. i'd say this thread be dead in the water by now itself, girl run off with the hero of the day ....
  2. just buy it, beg , borrow or steal then worry about any further consequences
  3. I'm happy someone is willing to play this game. 8000km away ?? Hawaii ? Jes, no superceded part number on this part, just one part number and I have two different ones so now know I cannot always trust parts cats even if genuine. And not spider specific due to the year mark cast inside is before spiders appeared. A real improvement on those knurled brass thread inserts cast into the covers would be along similar lines to those 'new' sump plugs you can get with some thread missing and replaced with a green O ring. I use tiny o rings under the retainer bolts on these covers for a joyful experience each time they need to be undone working on a photo shoot and some more entries
  4. Hmmm, the parts listings are not backing me up on this either ya know There is oddly two part numbers for the dizzy sides, front timing belt cover front bit. Affects the first MY of EA82 production My trivia question is regarding the non dizzy side of the engine, the front cover where SUBARU appears on the front. For this part, there is only one part number for the whole range, yet I have found two different covers, one won't fit the back cover assy without a slight modication
  5. Just wondering if anyone has an explanation as to what causes these things to stick so hard, that even a claw hammer sometimes won't budge them. Does not look to be anything in either the bore or the lifter to catch ! I have heads with most stuck in them. And before someone says carbon and gums and varnishes from the oil ...this thing has had oil changes between 2500 and 5000 km intervals done based on time rather than distance, and reportedly has less than 100,000km on them. Overheat maybe ? The timing belt cases were suffering melt droop and have been chucked
  6. wicked ! If I recall, US stopped at the EA82T and went for XT6 instead, so they may not even have got this ECU
  7. 22611AA550 hmmm, what model is your L Series? Was it sold in Fiji with a Fiji compliance plate or a used import from somewhere else ? From what I can see of that part number you have a 4WD Turbo Vortex /XT / Alcyone model year 88 - 91 which is a little more common than some other ECU's See if you can find a Subaru wrecker in New Zealand ....
  8. I should have said you were excluded from this one, and when I saw you had made an entry - thought - blast! OK, one may be blacker than the other, but not the difference I found, so y'all can keep contributing
  9. anyone care to guess what I found on the front/outer timing belt cover on cyls 1 and 3 ? Seems to be a change ocurred about same time they ditched the motor bike style adjustable rear shocks
  10. you get a nuetral in between FWD and 4WD hi, and another between 4WD Lo maybe it got pulled partially into 4WD? good anti theft measure
  11. I think you will find they don't have what you and likely Subaru, call gaskets to suit the coupe front, let alone rear. This is not my supplier - misplaced their details at the moment, and they do not do the slightly bigger coupe front rubber. Did not ask about the rear I wonder if priceusa.com do reverse stuff. They have a buyer / poster for us buying stuff in the US, very reasonable charges and so effing reliable
  12. You get to a stage when you hear something not available just means they can't get it from their regular supplier and business policy is not to go chasing stuff from other suppliers. When I ring my supplier they ask how many ! And that is for std EA81front windscreen seals. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUBARU-BRUMBY-UTE-PICK-UP-1800-LEONE-MY-SER-FRONT-WINDSCREEN-RUBBER-/121932288562?hash=item1c63bb1232:g:mcYAAOSwA4dWKb6j
  13. 84 was a bit of a changeover year from EA81 to EA82. Is yours late EA81 or early EA82 which had a self adjust mechanism inside as well as the EA81 adjust from the backing plate diff side. What have you got? A wrecking yard or pic of what you want to buy used from members in here would help you
  14. or make your own magnet ? Remember how coiling insulate wire over a screwdriver shaft and attach an end to pos, and end to neg of the wire and magnetises the screwdriver ? what about a custom bend coat hanger dood dad and wire wrap it for magnet on approach? Or one of those super duper magnets from something industrial that would go through the casing ?
  15. well, if you know how high twins sit, I run a custom air intake sitting on the normal part of the carb for air box to sit. It is made of 50mm high, 100 wide and about 280mm long, central and clears the bonnet undersides, not even rub in extreme moments.
  16. what about make someone really scratch their head in the future about their unique gearbox with an extra drain plug ? Drill a hole correct to tap a standard drain plug thread right where you think the allen key is ???
  17. OK google brought me here just now am wondering if EA82 rear hubs 4WD are interchangeable with EA81 4WD rear hubs as in just the hub itself with that short splined axle complete with nice bearings ? Think I am confused reading stuff above. If someone has been found incorrect above, would not hurt for poster to alter or delete ?
  18. like I said below - see if this comes out
  19. thanks for the update Twitch . The pics below of spfi pistons look just like the mpfi piston tops we got here. And , if I am not mistaken, same as carb 1986 model. I have not measured but observed the pistons in this mpfi block I have, sit near enough to flush with the virgin deck. My machine shop fella took his vernier to the piston from the EA82 mpfi and the new EA71 flat tops to find the flat tops will not rise to same level and his eye of building stuff for 45 years says the flat tops compared to the slight valve relief of the mpfi slugs, will still be higher compression . Height-wise with pistons compared side by side, the EA71 have about 10mm more lower skirt than the sleek mpfi slugs which if we can keep the extra skirt should lead to less slap Think I need to stick cam on to head and observe just how far valves open to ensure it remains a free spinner. The AE branded pistons came fitted with rings from factory - as is the norm for this company. Top is chrome, lower is cast. And rings are etched with AE as well !! Made in the UK, sold in the US, fitted up in Oz
  20. see the little bit at the end of your post ? I used an expression typed by your fingers to help you work it out - out facing the engine sort of contradicts my thinking, so I had to adapt to yours to give an answer you would understand - hOK? B facing block is easier to recall which way is out - depending on how you look at things angerthis, on 20 May 2016 - 09:37, said: Faces "out" as you're looking at the backside of the pump. Faces "in" would be towards the pump, away from you end quote quote start again, would be three weeks since I pulled an EA82 oil pump off and that is how I carefully noted things as I stashed the thing away - where I no not now !
  21. out as said above, I remember it as B faces Block
  22. an extra pat for Len Dawg guessing as nowhere did you even tell us you fitted new disc rotors !
