  1. thought only turbos were dished, carbs flat topped ?
  2. EA82 carb block of mpfi ? Did the spfi also get the mpfi behind the flywheel baffle plate venting to out top for a third PCV breather ? I had an EA82T that shows score marks on the bore now heads are off, compression down to 60 in that pot, so half what others were or thereabouts, it ran fine under all conditions except up steepish inclines - must have been cylinder blow by under boost that forced rearward in sump oil up the baffle plates and into the intake - ala 007 stuff. I say do a comp test and come back in here and tell....
  3. first 1st things first - you just replaced head gaskets - why ?? Buttermilk ? Did the gaskets get a look over for failure ? a good way to see if the freeze plug, named after the Welch brothers, is the cause, will be to remove your rocker covers and fill radiator again and observe plugs carefully for water seep. I reckon they are 20mm if it is EA81. 3 per side. Had exact same thing going on in my sump on new oil EA82 a few years back. You just need to remember shipping disasters at sea - oil floats on water. So, before you make a mockery of "oil an water don't mix" by adding pressure and heat to make buttermilk out of the two - you will find removing sump plug water or coolant will be first out, followed my non- mixed- with- water- yet oil. A good machine shop would check your freeze plugs condition. Some have been found to be stainless from factory so don't rust through. If the inlet manifold gasket is not water tight, it can seep down inlet tract and sometimes seep beyond rings into sump, but most likely fill cylinders to get hydralock - so think you can rule this out
  4. Ever get them in the US ? Found an ad from UK Motor magazine 1986 with a test of a FWD sedan mpfi EA82 5 speed , disc rear, rubber spoiler at rear, rubber skirt at front and 10:1 comp ratio mentioned in specs and write up. Badged as a GTi Not many EA82's left in the UK, almost a rare thing in the first place from the sound of it. Wonder what 10:1 pistons looked like ?
  5. sounds a bit like 1 3 4 2 firing order made out on 1 3 2 4 !
  6. I am curious to see what an EA81T head looks like to compare to EA82T in regards to the oil supply for the turbo , and the return. EA82T has oil supply from the rear of the head, and the head cops the return. Thinking an EA81 rocker cover could be made up to take oil return, and , oil feed direct from the oil pump switch hole - run a lin up to the turbo and T off from that for the oil light switch...one day
  7. and search in here, so many questions, threads and posts on timing belt instals, failures etc
  8. This was a good read Jeszek. Might bump it, see how many others review it Might be time for a thread to match the :My other car is ...." bumper stickers ??
  9. So....3 months nearly have passed - anything happened here ? Fuel injection gone in ? EFI has the added advantage of injector cut on throttle off and above about 1500rpm, so more often you can back right off on loud pedal, save fuel squirting in
  10. it would help yourself and others if you volunteered what info you have on the ECU model number, and as it seems you found other model numbers - list them too . The info won't hurt sitting in the archives.
  11. no matter how hard I look at those shiny rocker covers - still can't see my own reflection ?? I think you will find chrome sticks well to a base coat of copper plating. Again, I think plastics that have been chromed, as well as your alloy parts, get a copper plating first . Dizzy housing could do with same treatment Nice ....now starting to see my own image - green tinge about it :D
  12. . Grossgary said " I think all EA82 caps/rotors are the same?" I've come across three different caps for EA82 all by Hitachi. First is the carby style with spring clips to secure the cap to dizzy. Then there is the mpfi ones using screws to secure to dizzy. Series 1 EA82 - we uses a Bosch numbering system and it is GH617 and then the spider XT turbo at least uses a common Nissan cap not found listed for Subaru from memory - GH623 As for rotor buttons, first series get GH605 for mpfi, not sure on XT spider
  13. I reckon you tried to fit a clutch kit meant for EA82 4WD ( and FWD turbo) hopefully. Don't waste efforts refitting until you know the step required by that clutch pressure plate - 23mm for EA81 and 21mm for EA82 I once mixed up an EA82 225mm pressure plate in between EA81 and 4 speed 4WD - driveable, but would sometimes crunch selecting gears and reverse Felt silly when pulled it out That'd be why no throw out bearing was correct ? EA81 4WD use a cast iron lump with bearing pressed on, EA82 seem to all be integral and maybe plastic body. Think it is blue clutch fork on EA81 is 200mm , then black for 225mm EA81 - unproved theory alert My 85 MY, made late 84 ended up as a 15 year old in my possession with the smaller 200mm clutch, when I installed EA82 5 speed DR 4WD I added a clutch disc just to suit the 200mm and input shaft which after 9 years still have tag torn off , by my side - was for GM-H Isuzu Gemini 1600cc petrol but has nissan and specs OD 200, ID 160, ST 24, MD 25.6 Part # NSD026 or R7926W. Useless info to you with 4 speed I found EA81 pressure plate for 225mm pressure plate for EA81 has same ID at the finger tips, EA82 ID at the finger tips is greater. With my 5 speed the EA82 throw out bearing ran about 10mm in from where it should, was a harder pedal and no more adjustment- still , lasted 250,000km at least ! Stress cracks in plate when I removed it to swap engines.
  14. Gee willikers , look at how much been shaved off the head !
  15. Toyota Hiace van (2005 +/- a year) donated this spare tyre carrier. Will need some surgery if I am to get a towbar in - only thought of this shortcoming after. Is 89 Brumby. The swing arm brackets bolt through the lower ridges of the tray floor, with reinforcement coming later. Lowering bolt goes through floor as well Don't try this yourself unless you have removed the factory fuel tank, I'd hate for you to go hunting for the carrier then try ..... Now, with the wheel outta the way, I can reverse the feeder for the twins - IMPCO 100 mixer feeding from an L converter. Converter would normally be a J or "Cobra" size, but supposed to work on an L, that will eventually be supplying an IMPCO 200 mixer and an EA82T
  16. please, make it easier on yourself in prep for next out and in to be the last for a while. How about you tell us what part numbers you got first ! Unsure when the switch was made from 200mm to 225mm dia clutches on EA81 so far no idea what you got I have listings on two throw out bearing numbers that might mean zip outside Oz TBR 326 and TBR 336 both are for 225 x 22.2 mm measure of spline shaft x 21 splines and 23mm step. No idea what their difference is .... The 200 x 22.2 x 21 also lists tbr326 think TBR336 is one of those mistakes that appear in aftermarket cattledogs But all 4WD and 2WD turbo A82 use TBR 389
  17. i have found that the desired pressure could not be checkd for unless the fuel gauge is T'ed into the fuel pressure line not just as an end of the wall measure. 35 psi seems to be about the normal mpfi running pressure T'ed in
  18. oh STOP it, you will be giving Tweety the horrors ! He had a rather nasty experience with spfi conversion, now it is hello Weber ! OK, disclaimer is I know nuttink about spfi, just got the inlet manifold and its throttle body ,, the electrical resistance thingy about the mpfi of 87 onwards, do not think is for spfi at all. It looks to be inside a white ceramic just like resistor housing material on a points resistor
  19. lucky for us we have an agent in the LADM scouring yards and streets for these desired components to share with the rest of the world deprived of such So put your shopping orders in with Mr Jeszek via PM , and you will likely get a reply that they may have been LADM items, but are rare as hens teeth and rocking horse poo and due to an exchange rate likely sell for three times the price anyone is willing to pay - should they ever come up for sale
  20. have you looked for any codes on ECU. I know some say no codes will show unlss ecu light is on, not suree if that is Sube specific as my S1 EA82T mpfi had an error in it without ecs light on, fixed error problem, on my way. I think these S2 EA82 mpfi - it is mpfi ?? not spfi ?? had a doo dad near coil, but not part of coil bracket, that has a ceramic outer and provides some sort of electrical need for the injectors on turbo side strut tower on RHD
  21. roll pin ?? I have always undone a few bolts such as a pair of 14mm heads bolting stay bracket to lower back face of gearbox and a few 12mm head bolts going through bushes and this allows the box to be free of the shifters of 4WD DR as far as I recall, shifters just hang free with body, box come out ..... ??? When I installed for first time I painted up bolts, nuts and parts they go through, bit like the factory assembly ID colours - to assist my brain while upside down under car
  22. thanks for filling blanks it is very similar to the pollution gear on 89 - 92 EA81 on AUDM Brumbys, though cat equipped no egr valve on them
  23. firstly, the engine should have an identifier in the casting just below behind the distributor (under 32 years of gunk most likely) engine number is also very nearby. A website to view some rust removal gong on in one of these is www.brumbybratmv.co.uk - think I got the country code correct. Locksmiths are good for these ign locks, bust it out with centre punch on the security screws, remove wire plug from rear and leave it with locksmith - usually fit Nissan bits inside. Maybe take door locks too so everything matches ? Too much rust ? Maybe you bought self a parts bitch for next BRAT Sump plug should be easy for you once pulled it out, is hex maggoted only? Surely an oversize hole thread and plug to suit is easy for you if necessary. Did one oversize 30 years ago, then started with plumbers gas tape on threads, fat o ring to seal and never stripped a plug or thread since, never a leak either !i
  24. Are you on any medications ? Did you mean EA82 or EJ replacing an EA82, if it is EA82, it is going back in where an EA82 came out ? Surely any EA82 variation will fit ? I have read if EJ replaces an EA in the pre Legacy models a spacer is needed between where engine cross member bolts to the body under chassis rails and just rearward near the radius rods mount
