  1. how'd it happen? motor before idle nice ? So, you got lotsa spares to interchange or was 2nd hand engine incomplete and needed you to swap bits before it would work ? The little rubber seals of the injectors can, but rarely cause an idle and miss problem. Pull the front covers off both cam wheel locations and check the marks line up symetrically with the three lll marks on the flywheel. You need to rotate it clockwise a revolution ata time to check alternate sides. EA82T basic inlet manifold or EJ style spider inlet ?
  2. aha...thanks  , part of the reason I wanted this set up for a dedicated propane fuel supply was to gain a vac advance for my EA81 dizzy - oh well ......might have to study and make a port .....
  3. I am tinkering with parts, so don't have entire set up of EA82 spfi throttle body. Got me thinking which port connects to the vac advance on the dizzy (directly/indirectly) Choice of three , two straight ones out the front, or a bent one out the back ? Any help is appreciated
  4. I wonder if the blt shred has anything to do with oil pump seizing up internally causing some resistance ?
  5. injected and no one has suggested dirty injector(s) ?? If they don't spray nice, fuel don't burn nice or at all and possibly makes it rich exhaust beyond control of O2 sensor fuel trim range.
  6. Not bad for a first time poster ...you've got a pic and an avatar up already. All 4 the driver - just don't tell that to the BRZ Same confusion for me for years on the name difference for the Legacy in Australia is out of respect for this organisation >> http://www.legacy.com.au/
  7. or if you say 'new' flywheel - wasn't new as in fresh off the shelf ? Did you have it machined ? It would be up to the machinist to check what the step should be, should machine both planes/levels to maintain spec. And, when others are fiddling and need to use a clutch of one step may have flywheel machined to suit clutch not specs - they might have been supplied wrong clutch on Christmas Eve, or only had one choice of clutch in the boondocks/ past the black stump/ back o' Bourke and ingenuity came into play to stuff you around years later. Those paper clip looking clips on the clutch release bearing sometimes come out broken or missing and not been a cause of any noticed problem. Others also tinker with the adjustment of the pivot ball the fork works on
  8. Did you have the old bits to compare against the new bits ? I did, and still picked out the wrong bits and ended up with similar problems you have described. If you send ten bucks to my PO Box,I'll send you the answer ......gonna have to start that in here, but modernise it a bit and go paypal You know, I was playing with 225mm clutches from both EA81 and EA82 and managed to shove an EA82 pressure plate in 225mm with an EA81 clutch disc on an EA81 225mm flywheel. If it was not for the fact EA81 used 23mm step and EA82 pressure plate was happy to work with a 21mm step - that 2mm difference gave me cause to time engine out in 45 minutes and back in and running with a 23mm step pressure plate in 90 minutes. I don;t think a friction plate can go in wrong way on these as crank bolts hit the plate ? I think the hole you see in the middle of all th spring fingers differs between EA81 and EA82 225mm pressure plate so bearing may touch in different position, less leverage ? Don't shoot me if I am wrong here .....
  9. Has anyone done a BOV for EA82T , either first or second generation manifolds. Here is mine, as yet , unfinished , untried, untested Uploaded with ImageShack.us it is turbo draws through IMPCO 200 mixer, so it is rather volatile mix goin' through the hot little snail down there. Have been getting fluffy accelerator pedal at high revs after going for next gear up, and takes a while to gather the momentum once things sort themselves out, so it has been suggested to add on a diverter valve to theoretically take the load off the turbine and let it keep spinning (ready for next cog ) The pressured fuel air mix needs to be vented off somewhere and not to the atmosphere as it is a bit hard on mucus linings or worse if it ignites maybe I could evacuate it post turbo on the exhaust side ?? I was to decide whether it vented to pre mixer IMPCO propane carby but that is essentially to atmosphere side, not containing the burNy mix, also enrichening the small amount recirculated (if it all works that is ! ) so, the obvious and convenient choice was to dump it just after the mixer, mixing pre mixed fuel air with more of same) I am, as are many others, unsure as to what that return pressure will do to the underside of the mixers diaphragm for the moment. I suspect no different to that case I have without a BOV when the fluffy pedal occurs. Any experience guys ??
  10. That hole tends to leak coolant outside or inside to air ports. I drill them out and tap to something M12 coz I think hole is already too big for an M10 thread. Shove on some thread tape, gunk to really seal it off. Threebond is good
  11. Not sure weather L Series EA82 got factory installed AC. Certain the earlier EA81 MY sries were dealer installed and aftermarket. I got an EA82 that was AC and used two V belts for same path, it is a 110mm deck I am sure
  12. not only cam seals that run on the shaft, there is the special larg blue o ring seals between cam seal carrier and cam tower
  13. so, you miss the post on ht leads needing replacement can cause wacho tacho then ?
  14. Well, I'l be....down under we differentiate the deck heights of EA82 water pumps for thje belt/pulley types. 105mm deck height for the multi rib flat accessory drive belt and 110 deck for old school V belt drive. A press and press plates are really all that are needed to alter the deck height. I followed all the advice from somewhere, got the wrong pump and paid an extra 10 bucks for the turbo listing , ended up in the press for correction. Same pump - just 5mm difference in fitted height of its little outer wheel !
  15. I had one where the other diagonal holes in head were employed in this case, they cut the Y pipes and rewelded in place to suit the 90 degree rotation. I also use the helicoil types- stainless ? Hi skishop !! Halo fixer !!
  16. Currently running two EA81s with EA82 Y pipe EA82 Y pipe with cat and O2 sensor bolted to EA81 with those cast iron extenders on exhaust ports and #2 carbed, catted EA82 Y pipe on non extended std EA81 heads is a very tidy and tight fit. Thinking those holes with thread on pollution pipes, think it can be successfully plugged witha std spark plug for convenience
  17. I have seen so much bagging of the EA82 over many years, many forums. Honestly, is there anyone that expects thse to go for ever without some TLC and parts replacement - service parts ? Timing belts and their tensioners and idlers are service parts with 60,000 mile and 120,000 mile intervals. If their hydraulic valve lash adjusters are ticking and got a few hundred thousand miles or kilometres on them, might be a sign that the oil changes were spaced out, or non existant by next lot of owners - and are by rights - a service replacement item. Another little service item that misses attention is probably the cheapest yet rarely found as replaced going by the genuine look of them fitted - a radiator pressure cap ! The seal can deteriorate and lose the advantage of increased pressure for preventing over heating and water loss Even high tension leads are service items, but most Sube enthusiats would doubt this after seeing 300,000km on some ! Sometimes think some users don't know basic things like spark plugs, air, fuel and oil filters are service items either ! Every one of the half dozen or so EA82 and EA82T variants I have got over the years have the above abused qualities. My first reseal got new valve springs, new HVLA, head gaskets and has been ultra reliable since - done 50,000 miles and no problems. Found out why previous vehicle owner cooked first engine - another service item - temp gauge sender did not respond above 1/4 ! I am probably asking for trouble with 12psi of boost too ! Is there truly anyone in here who has done a reseal, rebelt and looked after oil and cooling needs of an EA82 or T and felt ripped off ? Or are the knockers just those who missed out on the 200,000mile reliability and copped the repair bills / torment ? If these engines were rubbish, th EJ powered subes would not have had such a following, of repeat customers upgrading jumps off soapbox :-)
  18. and on assembly ...when does the shaft and pin go back in ? Should a dummy shaft be made up to fit loosely ?
  19. Hmmm....where is my action man t- shirt ?? Wow, you don't muck around. I have a turbo dizzy in pieces - am a bit like that, pul apart, never put them back together. This one was due to xmas closures and no dizzy grease locally available. I wil keep coming in here, please excuse me if I don't say much - won't have done much
  20. Have you inspected or replaced the fusible links in the little plastic box coming off the batery pos terminal attached to the inside of mudguard, top side, almost covered by wire loom ? Some of us down under have been using more modern plastic units that fit the EA82 series fusible link boxes. I have found FL corrosion in 23 year old Subes cripple a reliable beast. Pumps usualy give trouble under boost with turbos before any idle speed issues. test your fuel pump relay ? for connection and function ? Oct 84 non turbo twin carb Brumby
  21. correct PCV valve for turbo ? How are they different to NA ? I've not noticed this before .This is the metal valve that screws into the inlet manifolds rear ?
  22. I don't think you have a chance of fire as once it is through the turrbo what have you got to burn ? I had the 007 option courtesy of blow by and up hills and the rear breather complete with baffle plates - delivered quite a show and it was oil starting at modified air box, down exhaust pipe and silicone inlet ducks, into the turbo and so on. My fix was to keep away from uphills until I swapped in another EA82T, also in need of TLC - gudgeon pins bush from the sound of it, still lasted me 20,000km until real EA82T was ready to go back in and that bush - never let go ! Sounds like you need a catch can that self drains back to sump or turbo drain hose !
  23. I am guessing by now you may have worked out a Y pipe off an mpfi L Series will have an O2 sensor and fits in a Brumby. I've done it recently now just needa reader to go with it. Dean, did you give up or is Tweetys set up excess to your requirements ?
  24. Brakes can be funny painful sometimes. I like to clean out my bleed screws holes to ensure they will bleed nicely, then have had to use good thread tape like gas or plumbing tape on the threads just to ensure no air sneaks back. My one man bleeder is soft rubber hose for the nipple, coupled to a clear PVC hose that must loop up first before it comes down to drain into an old plastic poison bottle, through the lid with an air breather hole next to it. This way you can watch the crud and the bubbles. This method is gravity feed bleed with occasional one man foot press while bottle does the job of collecting air and fluid. A tip is always allow pedal to return slowly or airmanages to get in at the master ! Wonder if a near thirty year old hose has collapsed internally ? 84 Brumby with Portland Disc Rear
