  1. will do bro. thanks for the thought. i am kind of missing the utility of my grand cherokee. i am def looking for something to haul stuff around next to add to my fleet.
  2. yeah..i love my new ones, but i have a fondness in my heart for the old ea81 & ea82s. we grew up always having one and i would love to get that hatch back on the road. id love to get a nice ea81 D/R wagon to work on after that.
  3. picked up my fiance's 2.5i LTD Outback sedan today . Very nice ride. I am including a pic of our entire fleet. This includes the 06 OBS, my 05 2.5GT LTD, my bro's(jeep5.9litre) 97 2.5GT LTD and our 86 hatch project. Apparently the 2.5i LTD OB Sedans are pretty hard to come by. I think we got the last 06 in the tri state area (if the dealer websites are anything to go by) ...cant wait to begin the break in process!
  4. thats interesting. this was from the parts dept at the dealer. so what you are saying is that the "Wxxx" code listed in my owners manual is correct, but that it just needs to be cut on a nissan/datsun key blank? i have never used a locksmith before, will they recognize this key code and be able to cut it, even though it is a subaru code.
  5. we tried to get a key made from the key code on our 86 hatch, but the key code listed in the book was a "W" key and all they had available to cut were "X" keys. SOL there. We need to get a "W" blank and have it cut. if anyone knows where to score one, it would be much appreciated.
  6. we filled it up, a little priming down the carb, a few pumps of the gas, and it fired right up:banana: ...a little rough, but nothing unexpected...we will post more pics as the work progresses. in case you guys are wndering i am jeep5.9litre's (matt's) brother and we are working on this at my garage. i was not trying to hijack the thread or anything...
  7. I just sold a '97 Legacy GT that had an ABS problem. The brakes were changed and the tech lopped off a piece of the RF ABS sensor. So, upon startup and beginning a trip the light would be off. Then step on the brakes...feel pulsation, then the light would come on. Then No ABS. Was not a problem for me. Just be careful in the snow. We lived years w/o ABS, so i wasnt losing sleep over it.
  8. i can smell the starting fluid from here....what towing company we using?
  9. spoke to the parts manager today. He advised me that they only use those parts for cars that are traded and need incidentals in the recon process.
  10. First and foremost, do not purchase the fuel system cleaner..I used to be a service writer, it is a cash cow, nothing more. As far as your timing belt, what model is your Legacy (2.5i or 2.5GT). In either case, and anyone correct me if I am wrong, it shouldn't need a thought until the 90k service. And while they are in there, they will change the water pump and oil seals for good luck...
  11. i used to work for bridgestone firestone and the WS-50s are well worth it...the treadlfe leaves something to be desired but the performance in snow is exceptional. by no means do i want to do free advertising for BFS but people were lining up in june to special order these things. worth looking into, but shop around. local bridgestone firestone dealers most of the time have a lot better prices than the typical store you would find around your mall. hope this helps.
  12. i went under the car and also listened in the trunk at idle. that is why i think it is the muffler rattling against the floor. i have to investigate further when i get some time. the power antenna is grinding like amofo. it seems to move ever so slightly, but i do think that something inside is moving. when you first turn the radio on, if it is on a channel that you know will come in....it is staticy....but after it sounds like the antenna goes up (whatever is inside) the channel comes in crystal clear. yet another item i have yet to have the time to investigate...thanks for the replies.
  13. Just want to drop a line and say hey. I am a new (well used) subaru owner. I got a '97 2.5 GT from a local subaru dealer for $2500. 160k one owner. Running great so far have put about 1500 miles on it this month. Looking forward to keeping the Jeep away awhile while we all get raped on the gas prices. A few things annoying me are the power antenna (a common problem so i understand) and the muffler is rattling under the car. It is not loose but at idle at lights it is rather annoying. Nothing turning up the radio wont fix. Ill post some pics and such when i get a chance. Looking forward to exchanging some info also with everyone. I am also (jeep5.9litre)s brother. He bought the limited, i just bought what was going to the auction.
