  1. If you're looking to replace the air sus. with coils. I found the standard rear shocks and springs from a 4wd wagon work ok in my Turbo XT. The back sits up a tad high but its OK.
  2. Well I'm pretty sure I don't have an actual JDM motor. But thought that if they were different, the New Zealand ones might also be different. But I would be happy to post numbers if they are of use.
  3. Ill get in on this too. Got 3. '81 Brat. Runs flawlessly '83 Brat. Runs but is rotting and extremely rough. Farm hack, not legal. '86 Turbo Vortex. Actually runs not too bad. The alternator is in getting fixed up at the moment but it still runs! Its also very rough around the edges. So thats 3/3!
  4. If the JDM motors are out, Does that mean I can't contribute either?(NZ)
  5. Oh damn. Thats a story for a really really bad dream. I understand your pain. Poor lil brumby. I really hope you can find some parts. The 1st gen cars really seem to be non egsistant. There may be some down south. But mine is the first gen 1 Subaru I've seen. And we brought it from down there..... I'll keep (even more of) an eye out for some for ya. Good luck.
  6. Niiice! My brat is also the same colour. Its a good colour.:-p Look after it:)
  7. Weird vaccumm leak or blockage that causes the manifold to be pressurized? I assume when you pull the cap, is there much air blowing and sucking through the filler neck? Thats about as far as I go.. This thing is turbo, I shudder to think what else could be going on..... I'd try cleaning all vaccumm lines. I'm sure some more knowledgeable folks will be of more help.
  8. If thats the case. You could try cut a Brat just behind the doors, and weld on the back section on a wagon...? Could be interesting, anyone handy on photoshop?
  9. Oooh, this sounds ok, wanna come down here too?
  10. That sounds pretty darn sweet. Any chance of some pictures of it?
  11. I can see how they might be usefull if you had a car that was just really uber powerfull or something and got to redline so quick that you needed the light, and you were kinda slow:-p Kinda pointless on an old soob though I think... Could be pimp to have one if thats what you're going for?
  12. Heh, its an '81 so I've got a lovely 1800 and dual range. Now I just need the better disty and a weber or something...And some bigger tread.... And that is Keltiks Honda/wagon...., I'm sure he'll pipe in and tell more about the it and the filming soon.
  13. Dang, its purdy. Wanna swap for a Vortex?
  14. I've found as long as you got good traction, these things can climb anything.
  15. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=425008 This guy? Wish I had a wagon from that era....
  16. Its a rip-off of knight rider, The old eighties tv series. I've been looking into it a lot lately because everyone says the Vortex looks like KITT, And needs a red flashing light and the ability to talk....
  17. Well, I tinkered around for a while and finally got the pulley to line up good on the ea81 alt with the help of some washers. Then went to install it in the car and WTF!?? Turns out the brackets are quite different and the vortex alternator is smaller. Back to square one....
  18. Ok, Ill head out now and pull this ea-81 alt too see what its like. The ea81 alt looks a lot more like any of the others I've seen, So if that works, Should be promising.
  19. Poor subaru damn ladas http://f4.putfile.com/videos/d6-25206401419.wmv I couldn't help it, sorry!
  20. Ok, so its possible an ordinary ea82 or ea81 alt will work then, but not certain. And more likely to work if the donor car has air con? All the possiblitys so far are the V belt style with a little fan thing on the front and one or two pulleys. I'm planning on pinching the alt from my dads brat to try as it looks the same as all the others that I have available. Then I'll know some more about teh pulley swap. Thanks so far all!
  21. The brushes on this are attached to this weird expensive looking device I think. But I think they are ok, They are still definately making contact anyway, even if they are a little worn. The voltage is a little bit nuts though, can the brushes cause this? A guy at the place I do work experince said he thought it was the regulator/diodes.
  22. OK, so I'm thinking the alternator in my '86 Turbo XT is on its way out. Only doing about 11.X volts at idle and the battery going flat every few days of driving. The guy at the auto electrician place quoted me heaps to get er rebuilt. I have spyed for sale online. And remember reading that nearly all EA series alternators were the same. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=55934392 If I get this will all I need to do is change the pulley over with the likes of an impact gun? Also, Just dug one up from in the shed of an unknown car and in unknown condition. It has the same conection on the back, and the brackets look similar too. If I can get the pulley to fit on this one, is there anything I should look out for? Is the wiring likely to be the same? Any help would be cool. I really wanna get this car running nicely.
