Ok. So I've got an '81 Brumby, and just stripped a turbo Vortex. I have the complete rear sus assembly and front. I would like to use Rear discs as told by Zefy (thank yooo) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53479 Front Vented discs - But I am unsure of suitability Possibly Master cylinder and Booster if suitable - Anyone Know for sure? Possibly Rear swaybar - How much work is this and how simple? Possibly Front swaybar - I have not checked yet but Am assuming it'll be a similar shape and a little stiffer? Opinions and advice/knowledge please?

Thanks Skip. I take too many pictures, so it figures at least a few should be good.As for the front bumper, i think its the supports are a bit wonky. Havn't looked into it too much. The muffler on the coupe, no idea, previous owners addition, just the tip doubles in size and looks kinda silly. Will be fixing that once it gets on the road.... -

I've never even heard of this feature on these cars... Guessing its just a simple on/off switch type circuit, find the wires, and either join them or disconnect them depending on how it works.. -

Ok its Jan 1st now! -
Yeah that would probably be viable. I was mostly just surprized to find the rims had different offsets. Tire sidewall was rubbing on the bumpstop faceon the rear trailing arm. Might just get tyres swapped once tire stores open again.
-
So I thought it would be a good idea to have a good set of tyres on the ute over the holiday period, (police out in force, increased holiday traffic, old tyres nearly out of tread). The best set of matching rims (and the better looking set) and tyres I had left (out of about 6 sets off different parts cars) was the set on the GSR. Sooo... Swap the rims on the GSR for another set. Swap the rims on the Brumby for the GSR set, looks a little different, but meh, no biggie I think. Later that evening go for a quick trip down the road and hear a tick tick tick. Upon inspection thismorning, the offset of the GSR rims are differnt to that of the white wagon wheels, causing the raised writing on the tyre sidewall to rub the trailing arm (rear) each revolution. May not have been nice under cornering. Anyway, just a FYI mostly. As I was under the impression that there was virtually NO difference between the Subaru spec 13's I may need to measure the rest now just to see what i've actually got...

Thank you for looking man thats excellent. That is a ea82 carbed or spfi head I take it? Not exactly as the guy had put it to me but it at looks do-able right?
-
As am I, If its as easy as the plane guy makes out, It should be... well, easy. Comparing headgaskets would help clear up a bit, not sure if any parts stores round here would actually stock HG's for the ea series though. The only ea82 bits I have is a buggered block, putting some ea81 heads against it could shine some light, but is hardly ideal.
-
EA81T's aren't exactly plentyful over here, and far from ideal in their stock form from what I gather? EA82T's are a bit more easy to get a hold of, but for an Aircraft guy, pushrods seem to be more popular due to the lack of cambelts. For me, its just to get something close to the dualcarb ea81 at the moment, & I believe ea82's don't fit in Gen 1 vehicles & I like ea81's.... I have some resources available to me, not much more than a laythe and a few other bits and pieces, I'm assuming Mr Aeroplane I talked to had a bit more on hand. The way he put it to me, was that an ea82 head will 'bolt' straight onto an ea81 block very easily, the ea81 valve gear worked very easily on the ea82 head, with only needing to machine a few holes for the lifters where there were already 'castings' (for want of a better word).

Anyone get the address or contact ph# I'd be happy to look into it. Also, lets stop hi-jacking Kostamojens thread -
I would also like to know what size rim & offset will generally fit on Gen1's. What are the measurements the pugs for comparison?
-
Yes, now we've gotten past what is Dohc and what is Sohc. I mostly would like it if someone who has the two could give me a definate reply on what will and will not work. In short, the plane bloke seemed pretty adament it would work, and everywhere I could try and pick holes in his plan, he could come up with an answer, But I wanted some definate answers before I went buying some ea82's (god forbid...I kid).... His aim, was to create an ea81t. These are not easy to come by here, let alone in good condition. EA82t's are plentyful, ea81's are common as dirt. My aim, is to create something better than an ea81, have not decided whether FI is the way yet, just gathering info. So I understand the ea82 bore and stroke is the same as the ea81, so if the ea82 heads were to fit on the ea81, the ea82 intake in theory should still fit right? I don't mind if this idea is dis-proven, but would like to have it heard out first as it seems like a good option IMO. Also, please keep it ON topic if you could. Pictures of any EA Series heads would be good to compare pleeeease.
-
Right so we've cleared up what is sohc and what is not. If I had some ea82 parts other than a rusted tubro block (which is currently only good for an anchor) I would look myself, But I do not have these parts (yet), and have never heard of this idea, so I am calling on someone that might know/can find out 100%
-
Ok, this is some progress. When I quizzed him on the slight difference of the whole ohv & ohc issue. He said that the ea82 heads, minus all the ohc parts, with some holes machined in them (where there were already allowances) for the pushrods, and the ea81 lifters, rockers etc bolted on, would work. Then an ea82 intake manifold. Does that make any more sence? Are the headbolts in anywhere near the same places?
-
Ok, so I need some information inreguards to THIS topic and thought this would be the better place to discuss the differences & whatnot. Basically, I need to know if that idea is at all do-able. Surely someone in this pool of knowledge has delved into this idea before? Does anyone even have a few ea81 & ea82 heads to compare? I understand the ea82 valves are around the other way to the ea81 which would require a different cam, similar idea to that found in the dualcarb ea81's. Discussion please as I think this would be one of the better routes for an engine for me to follow.
-
Ok, So I got talking to a light aircraft guy a few weeks back about the Subaru motors he uses. I was mostly trying to find some EA81 Dualcarb bits from somewhere. He said he didn't know much about the DC motors (or barely heard of them), but he was all on about the EA81T and how hard they were to find. He then went on to say he had a few Vortex's (ea82t), and that he planned to make an ea81t out of an ea81 block with ea82 heads, intake, dizzy etc. So to sum up what he said, if you use the EA81 valve gear on ea82 (MPFI in his case) heads, with an ea82 dizzy & intake (+ turbo if you like) You can have something kinda neet... Now bare in mind I havn't had either of these engines apart myself so Heres where I hope someone can clear a few bits up for me... EA82 heads are better flowing than ea81 right? (dispite the obvious cam differences) He'd also said that to use the pushrod system on the ea82 heads, you'd need to machine some (already exsisting) holes out for the lifters & whatnot. He said the EA81 lifter & rocker stuff would then work on the ea82 heads. This is minus the cam towers I assume? The main advantage he was trying to do this was to get MPFI affordably on an ea81 for turbo'ing. I just want to know if any of this makes scence and if its even remotely possible? Its the first I've heard of such an idea.

Stuck rings, not seating, leading to blowby & possibly the problem you've got. -
Picked it up... It is loud, I'm not sure if I like it...
-
Mmmkay, what is everyones opinion of a 2 inch from the y pipe back with one small resonator around the gearbox area and a small muffler at the very end, nothing special and he assures me it won't be too loud.
-
I'm gonna bump this as I'm getting my exhaust worked up a little tomorrow. Curious to see what else is out there, diametres, how many and what type of mufflers & resonators etc.
