    Lifted STI

All the ricers are hating on him for lifting a STI. I don't see what's so wrong with it...
  2. Don't get ones from Subaru. They cost absurd amounts of money. Would have cost $400 for them to replace mine.
  3. Just try to stay away from anything electrical. Yes, there will still be a code stored in the ECU from the CEL that was thrown.
  4. Try to buy one from the US...they're $50 from subarugenuineparts and 1stsubaruparts....
  5. The only issue as far as I can see, would be making sure that the new tranny has the same final drive as the old one so that you don't have to replace the rear diff.
  6. I have one aftermarket one on my car (front right). The one that was on before that was a Subaru OEM one and it blew after like 20k miles (the one that's on now is the third one and it's not OEM). I did the math on this before, it's *a lot cheaper to buy reman. with lifetime warranty than it is to buy OEM every time.
  7. I highly HIGHLY doubt that any car back in the early 90's came with synthetic anything with regard to fluid.
  8. I would think that's a good thing. Tells me that the transmission and engine are reacting immediately to your pressing on the gas.
  9. I honestly couldn't tell you for sure. The solid lifters came before the interference design. You can definitely tell the 96-ish engines different from the older ones because they have single port exhaust, not dual port like the 1989-1995 design. I think it would be safe to say that no single-port exhaust engine would have HLA's.
  10. I like that way Josh. I'll keep that in mind. Unfortunately, I don't know the gear ratio of 4th + lockup on my 4EAT :-p
  11. 1995-1997 were some weird years for Subaru, especially in the Legacy department.
  12. If it was timing, the car should run horribly all the time. However, stranger things have been known to happen (the guy with the chunk off his crankshaft comes to mind).
  13. The only thing about some of the 96 engines is that they have solid lifters that need adjusted every so often. The 89-95 EJ22's have HLA's that adjust themselves.
  14. As long as they have the same type of clutch and final drive, the transmissions should be plug and play - no other changes needed.
  15. Other than forced induction (turbo or SC), there isn't anything you can do to get more power out of the engine. A tuneup might help a bit, but it isn't going to help out that much.
  16. Don't do the axle nuts on the jack? Are you making sure to actually loosen the nuts?
