Humming going around corners? I'd throw out bearings. Bearings do it all the time, regardless of direction. And no, I wouldn't do CV's because it's just best to wait 'til they're busted. Preventive maintenance with those kind of parts is just kind of pointless. However, that right shaft I question. Repairing the boot is generally not a good idea with CV's being so cheap these days. Who knows what got in there while the boot was torn for those few hundred miles. I might wanna chalk up the humming sound to a rubbing dust shield perhaps.

Highly unlikely. He said he replaced all the tires. I'm going with wheel bearing on this one. The mileage and central sound location suggest as such. However, before you just go have a bearing put in, just make sure that you don't have a dragging dust shield or brake. Probably would be easiest to test by jacking the car up entirely and listing to the sound. Wheel bearings make a pretty distinct sound.

Injector ?
Manarius replied to jon38iowa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I second nipper's motion. If the car runs a little rough, I wouldn't suspect the injectors until they're ancient. I'd suspect almost any other thing over those. -
It has been done. It required some major modding of the front end to fit the radiator (because you need a bigger one for the EG33). It will bolt in...just fitting everything will be a big issue. Add to that the steering would be a little weird with all that weight.

Head gasket problems, do they return?
Manarius replied to Daisygsp's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Simple answer: No. Subaru redesigned the headgaskets after the minor problem with them and many people have put many miles on their cars after having the HG's changed. -
Find a JY MAF, they usually run ~75. Or, source one from somebody on here who's willing to sell it cheap to you. I'm sure that your MAF is toast. Replace it and you'll be fine. Running in limp mode is not an option because the ECU completely retards the timing and adjusts everything (you can't go above 4k RPM). Just FYI, the ECU is under the dash on the driver's side. It's almost directly above the brake pedal (if you're looking from the underside of the dash). It's a silver-ish box with lots of wires coming out.

Yeah that is bouncy. Does it only do it when it's cold? My car does it when it's cold, but not nearly to that degree. Either way, greasing the speedo cable will require removal of the gauge cluster. Something someone who has skill should do that or else you'll end up with more problems than just a weird speedo. I say just leave it alone unless you're either 1. Rich enough to afford someone doing it for you or 2. in possession of skills that will allow you do that without fubaring up the rest of your car.
