  1. Welcome Bob I'm also interested in building a trike but will use the subie trans. As stated by others the ea82 is newer than 1982. As far as I know 1985 was the first year for them. Pic's would be very helpfull. Keep up updated on your trike progress. I recently aquired an ea82 (91 Loyale) FWD Auto sedan. Using the motor in another project to avoid doing head gaskets this winter. But plan on doing them next summer and use that motor with the auto trans. Have a KZ1300 frame and front end to graft on. There is also another member in the process of building a trike this winter but he seldom visits the board here. Again welcome, Stumpy
  2. I have an 89 GL-10 and the AC belt was off when I purchased it as a dead rig. Not into AC my self and I suspected the T-belts were the problem. So, as I took it apart to check it out, off came the AC unit and hoses. It's an out board one but I had to keep the mounting bracket as it holds the tensioner for the altinator. Much less clutter under the hood now! Running one belt as it was when I purchased it. The only problem was there was no adjustment possible for the altinator and the belt squealed often. Not sure if it's all stock or some one has changed some thing along the way but 10-15 minutes with a grinder and severl fittings produced ample adjustment!! Stumpy
  3. I may be wrong but I thought the head rest on rear seats was a GL-10 item and not exclusive to turing wagons.
  4. Picked up a wrecked 91 Loyale FWD today for a heart donor for this project. Couldn't test run it as the rad is into the fan and the front wheel is shoved back against the wheel well. Impact on front left corner only! Only has 129K miles on the clock. Hopefully the weather will be kind to me and I'll be able to get some work done on it this next week. Plus I can use the old motor and the FWD Auto trans for my trike project. Unless I get rich soon and can afford an ej set up like I would prefer. LOL Stumpy
  5. If you have to change the tranny I would vote on a conversion to manual if possible. I have a couple of the auto models. One FWD and one AWD. The FWD is an 89 and has worked fine with no issues other than sluggish on hills unless you put the petal to the metal. It's a tubo model so it's got a little extra pep over the 86 AWD one. That one eats govenor gears and needs the internal gear changed. I have replacement parts but with no garage I'm not to motivated at this time. The AWD is used by a friend that is a left AKA so not likely to be converted. He hasn't done any off roading with it. Uses a K5 Blazer for that! I drive the FWD and have the same issue but do drive one standard (Diesel Ford Van) but the 89 is not worth investion any money in as it's rusted!! Millage is fair for an auto, 25 on the average with out rodding it.
  6. An ea81 powered reverse trike. The only subie powered one that I found on the site (http://reversetrike.com/home.html). There is also a VW powered one. But most use motorcycle engines. Doran, the man behind this one is coming out with a diesel hybred in 2007 that boasts 225 mpg. I don't think it's a Subie diesel though:confused: .

Found this web site when looking for some info on a KZ1300 motorcycle I have. http://reversetrike.com/doran.html I remember some one talking about doing a reverse trike on this site but can't remember who it was. I was thinking an ej18 set up would be cool! But the ea81 has an advantage with no t-belt and it is narrower. So many decisions, so little money!! Stumpy
  8. Do you have bubbles in the radiator or over flow tank when at operating tempature? If there is no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant and no bubbles in the raddiator or over flow tank I would be checking else where. Like hoses, water pump by pass, heater hoses ect:

  11. I've picked up a couple of them on CraigsList for $300.00 (Give or take $75.). Runs decent but has tranny or other issues. $175 for the adapter, engine to trans. Still need a clutch set up. Have fly wheel that I got with 5speed d/r trans. I prefer to pick up the whole car as there are other parts needed ie: wiring harness, cpu, y-pipe ect. And I get it all for the price of or not much more than an engine would cost me. The Mitsubishi motor is unproven in a Subie. I understand they are a good motor though. An adapter plate to mate the trans to engine would be needed. Then of coarse a fly wheel that will fit in the subie bell housing. You would have to expermint or do plenty of research as it hasn't been done as far as I know. The ej22 is very common in older Legacy's as well as newer one's and of corse in Forester's and newer Impreza's. There is a company out there, can't think of there name or web site at the moment but they build ej25's for sand rails that run from 300 to 600 HP, depending on what you want to spend. Stumpy
  12. Got to thinking and remembered that Mitsubishi supplied engines for Chrysler back in the early days of their transverse series. Did a search for the Mitsubishi g63 and JACK POT. Still wouldn't be my choice if I had to go buy one. If I had a good one laying around, who knows!! If your not into the easy already traveled path, it would be different and you could be the first pioneer!! Stumpy
  13. Sounds more like a Mopar motor as they own Eagle as well as Dodge. You could do an ej22 n/a for less money and get the 135-140 HP and have a proven path to follow as many has done it now. And if you want turbo theres a bit more work but more HP as well!! For what it's worth, my two cents. Stumpy

  15. Thanks for the replies guys! Sounds like more than I want to get into right now and I figured as much. Having a hard time dealing with the trans swap I'm working on already. Will look at selling or wait till $ are more plentiful and go for a ej/4eat transplant. Open to offers on car. Can get pics if any one is interested. Cheers, Stumpy
  16. Have a 86GL auto that the govenor gear has apple core syndrone. Replaced gear when I first bought car and my friend drove it for 6 months. Then it ate another gear, so I repalced it and it repeated the process in less than 200 miles this time. Time to replace internal gear (Dealer quoted $20 for part). How much trouble to install? Any one done this procedure? It's a nice car except for this issue. Is it worth fixin? Appreciate any input that you all have to share. Thanks, Stumpy
  17. I've pulled them out of several sets in the past. Pair of pliars (Like stated) and a slender standard screwdriver for the stubborn ones.
  18. Awsome job on the build! I'm impressed on how good it looks with no body! Sweet!! Looking to do one my self (When funds permit) but with the ej22/4eat set up. What part of the UK are you in. I have relatives in Nottingham who started the 10th ISP in the UK. Stumpy
  19. In that case I vote with GD and the TIG welding. I know they make aluminum stick rods and gas rods but they are harder to work with than a tig welder, I have been told. Don't have access to a tig my self, only a stick/gas set up as you do. Good luck, Stumpy
  20. Just a thought and may not even be a good one. What about that liquid metal they have now for body repairs instead of the JB Weld stuff? I hear it works very well but haven't heard of any one using it in this application. You could be the ginny pig!! Stumpy
  21. 4X4 Welder, that makes sence but SUCKS! There have been times 4 wheeling where I had to back up quite a distance before I could turn around or in a couple cases for better traction up hills. Stumpy
  22. Up a steep windy gravel road at that. Am fairly indiferent to direction as long as it gets me where I'm going. Water level is normal, Flow. Not sure what to think about it overheating. If it's the water pump or some other part of the cooling system I would think it would over heat at other times as well. I drove it the day before up to Corbett when it was 104degrees out here. If it was going to over heat that should have been the time. Temp gauge never went above it's normal range. Stumpy
  23. Thanks for the offer GD. I'm a bit short of funds so I won't be taking on the project just yet. Have a trans job on a 91 Legacy and hook up the motor on 71 510 Datsun and get running so I can sell them to stimulate the bank account and change the sceanery in my yard! Other than a hole in the carpet (Under drivers feet) the inside seems nice. My sense of smell isn't the greatest so I haven't noticed the mice smell. Just taking the old owners word on that. Some incense may help! Blue book is like $1,400+ in fair condition. With the head gasket fixed it should rate a little better. But don't expect to get book value. Well, it didn't come quite free. Came with $100 cash and dinner. All I had to do was a water pump on an old Dodge motor home last weekend. Stumpy

  25. Yes it's an auto. What do you mean there not built for long back ups? I love reverse drives!! The electric fan is defiantly kicking on. I was wandering what was running until I opened the hood and the fan was on. I had left the key on accessories. I have used reverse in other 4X4's for tough up hill runs. But my soob is a 2 wheel drive and it does pretty good off road, all considered. Struts seem to be in decent shape on the front but the rears are gettng weak. Stumpy
