My daily driver is a 89GL-10 turbo touring wagon FWD auto model. Spent most of it's life in salt country so it has a bit of cancer. Previous owner bought it new. Had 132K on the clock when I got it last year and I just started driving it two weeks ago when I sold Preacher (91 Legacy). Stumpy

Been there done that. Too much force and the end of roll pin gets burred making it difficult to remove. Mine went through the output shaft but not through the other side of the axle. I couldn't get it back out but it cleared so I left it that way as cookie suggested. It's been 4K miles now and no problems so far. Stumpy

subie broke down - need input
stumpy replied to Steven Romero's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with Subarian. I had the same problem with an 89 GL10 I picked up for cheap. Drivers side belt had only about 12 good teeth left on it but still turned the cam (Rotor turned with cap off) with no problem making it seem like it should run. Didn't see the condition of the belt until I removed the cover. 15$ for a new belt from Subaru dealer and a few hours of my time and it's now a runner. This was the first ea82 timing belt I had done and there are no timing makes for alignment as the back cover has large chuncks out of it right at the top. You should be able to remove the drivers side cover quickly as there are only 3 bolts at most to hold it on, it's a tight fit for large hands but can be done. I removed the cover on the ea82 and an ej22 for inspection before moving forward on tear down. ie; removal of fan, fan belt, crank pulley, the other timing covers, ect: On one of my ej22's one of the idlers was bad allowing a good belt to jump time. Would run for short periods (Few trips around block) some times or jump while cranking. Stumpy -
Mine looks the same! Don't have any weight in it as the engine is out but expect it to straighten out once the weight is back in and driven some. Don't know about other lifts as I have the AA one but it is set up with 2.5" tranny blocks as opposed to the 4" blocks on the engine cradel and rear assembly. Stumpy

Congrats on the progress!! Not enough power with larger tires was one of the concerns I had and the reason I decided to go with the EJ22 upgrade before I put it on the road. With only one leg to work the pedals I wanted to make its as easy as possible on me. Plus "I can't drive 55" as Sammy puts it!! Keep up the work, looking good man, Stumpy

Chuxwagon is down for the count

I had an AMC Spirit sieze up on me from lack of oil. Pulled to may G's in a dip and bottomed out. Didn't think much of it until the oil light started flickering and as we were in a remote area in Utah I drove it till it siezed(About 2 miles). Hitch hiked back to town and got my friends truck to pull it home if we couldn't get if started. Filled with oil and still it wouldn't turn over. So we pulled it and after several bumps from the clutch in a higher gear it started tuning over again. Ended up driving it home (30 miles) before it ran out of oil again. Never did sound or preform so good after that. Some one else mentioned pulling and bumping the clutch, I recomend the same if your not worried about damage to the motor. I would suggest 3 gear as the lower ones just left the back wheels slide for me. Stumpy -
Harbor Frieght has line wrenchs at a resonable price. What area do you live in? I have line wrenchs but don't make it into town very often, mostly the east side or Gresham. Better to do it right and not have to replace the complete brake line because of damage to the end(Not sure what you call that hollow nut like piece) My exhaust was easy as I just scraped the whole thing. Will modify the Legacy one when I put it back together.

I cut mine also, didn't even try to get the old ones of yet. Wanted to get the wheels back on to see how it sits. Replacements came in the AA kit for the rear but my fronts are to short also. Will be checking into replacements for those unless AA supplys them. Do you have line wrenches? They should work the best plus some type of penetrator wouldn't hurt. Stumpy

anyone want to help me lift my soob this week?
stumpy replied to scrap487's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Longer shocks does eliminate that obsticle. The strut extensions are of heavier metal than the rest of the kit and a chop saw won't be much help in cutting those pieces. A torch or jigsaw(Will take a lot longer) will work better and a grinder to make it look purdy! -

Finished putting in my lilft today so I am now offically experienced!! Still have to do the steering shaft and brake lines but wanted to see how it would look with the lift on. As I still have to pull the trans and prepare to drop the other set up in I have plenty of time to deal with the minor details. Let me know when you are doing yours and if you still need use of the chop-saw. Making the rear shock brackets look to be the most challenging. I would take grossgary's advice and check with others who have done the lift with out a kit. Stumpy -
This will kill my parts sale!! On the bright side I don't have to pull all the goods now! I told you snowman would set you straight on the conversion and you will be happier with the fuel injection as oposed to the carby set up. Checked out the conversion thread, seams to be very through thou I didn't read the hole thing. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. Some pic's would be cool if your one of the lucky ones with photo gallery capabilities! Stumpy

What, no help or advise for a fellow Subie modifyer? Stumpy, Bump -
Welcome to the board! Have an 84GL my self. Working on pulling the engine today and starting my AA 4" lift kit if the rains don't chase me off! Not that I need to pull the engine to get the lift on but as I'm doing the EJ22 trans plant and its coming out of there any way figured it might be easier that way. You can always pick up a second one to mod! Again welcome, Stumpy

Think I will pull the engine first day it isn't raining as I'm replaceing it. Should make the lift install easier to deal with. I'm in the west end of the gorge about a mile south of Rooster Rock tucked back in a hole but the winds can still be a pain to deal with at times. Your welcome to check out the lift and get some ideas for your project. It's only a 4" lift and not sure if they build the 6" lift the same way or not. Have a chop saw but thats about it in that department. And yes those heaters can be handy at times. Stumpy -

Hey scrap487, I picked up a AA lift yesterday. If you get more help than you need send one or two my way. I have bigger water puddles to lay in and the gorge wind to keep every one cool from all the hard work!! Good luck with your project, Stumpy -
I have a stock ea82 FWD turbo, it's an 89GL 10 and not the Loyale. Stumpy

88HatchMonster, In # 8. (EA82 radiator is adequate for cooling an EJ22.) What about those of us with an ea81 rad? Wil an ej22 or ea82 rad fit in there? Have one of each or will I need to go with some thing different altogether? Thanks, Stumpy

Allied Armament Super Christmas Group buy

I've taked with Albi on picking up one this Monday. Don't see why you can't get one. Albie, Tyson and Joe are there even when James is gone. Which he seems to be a lot of the time with school and all. Their # is 503-543-5154. Stumpy
