  1. Welcome, your in good hands here!! If you can't find any thing closser to you I have an 86GL parts car. Let me know if I can help. Stumpy
  2. Fixed one for a friend of mine. It was completly rusted off. $14.?? at the local Subaru dearler in Gresham for a new one. I have 4 Legacy's my self and only one of them work properly. The other three you have to manually return the handle to the neutral positon if you want it to close properly.
  3. I had good lucky with a K5 Blazer that sat for 9 years in one of my sheds. Only had 18K on a built motor and trans. The first time I opened the hood it was one big nest!(Rats or squirels?) After I cleaned that all out I taped up some electrical lines and spark plug wires that were chewed to the core, replaced some vaccum lines, change oil and filter, disconected fuel line (Hooked up line to funnel with fresh gas) and the biggie disconnected the heater power as I had it catch fire once before when a mouse built a nest in there next to a coil that heats up and glows red. It was a daily driver when that happened! Mice love duct work to live in. It was so packed I got 2or3 one gallon vaccum loads out of that system and still it dribbles regularly for my friend who I sold it to to buy my first subie. Residuals or did some of the mice go with the sale? Any way it never hurts to see if some unwanted vermin have made a home in there while it has been setting for so long. For what its worth! Stumpy
  4. Mine are the only one's on my block! The neighbor sold his quite a few years ago and we are the only two house's on the block. Twelve homes (One square block of pavement.) in town and three others have subies at present. Cheers, Stumpy
  5. OK, here are some pic's of my small herd. The Cheesemobile!! Pearl, My first subie. Preacher, my daily driver. My lift project with no name so far. The other 3 wagons in the herd don't count as far as I'm concerned as they are being canibalized for the greater good of the herd!! Ok, will have to get some advice on uploading to photo gallery. (KevinsUBARU) Under your "Private Messages" link, you will see the photo gallery link in the USMB toolbar. (I haven't even figured out that part yet!!)
  6. OK, so maybe next time I should check the lug nuts before deciding it needs axles!! Three out of four wheels were about to fall off!! Also flowmaster tells me it is a rare car as it is a FWD Turbo touring wagon. Like I would know about that! Learn something new every day! The picture just doesn't do the rust justice!
  7. I'm also interested in checking out your group buy prices! I have a 84GL Wagon that I want to put an EJ22/d/r5speed into with a lift kit. Depending on the prices I may also be interested in bumpers, swing gate, brush gard and skid plate. Patiently waiting for price post, Stumpy
  8. Thanks all, for all the input. And yes zyewdall the price is less than I could have purchased a EJ22 out right. Wasn't thinking but I have most of the manual parts for conversion in my parts car I'm trying to dump. Will have to check on a good stock Legacy AWD 5 speed before my final decision. Could be less $ and work as opposed to a d/r set up. Stumpy
  9. I have one NA,d/r5speed and another on the way, not sure if its from a NA or turbo model. The Legacy only has 162K on the clock with a couple minor blems on the body and other wise very nice condition. Besides the tranny I will need an adapter plate (Unless I find a Legacy 5 speed) different axles, differential and interior parts upgrade. And lets not forget having the flywheel welded and redrilled, a new clutch package and the clutch/brake pedal assembly. Am I overlooking any thing? I paid $375 for the car as is. After buying all those extra part will I come out ahead after selling the car?
  10. The tranny is toast. Cost of stock replacement is HI. What about the cost of transfering to manual? Would it be worth the investment just to sell it? Or better of sending it to parts land? Thanks Stumpy
  11. Got tags and title transfer today. Ouch!! cost me almost as much as I have in the car so far. Took it for a test drive around town. Defantly needs some axle attention, heavy knock on left front.
  12. Currently don't have a lifted sub but if the shadyman gives us a good deal on the lift kit for the Christmas Group Buy I will have one. Stumpy
  13. The rad cap as sea#3 suggested but I see you had already changed that. The line that runs from the rad to the over flow tank (And the part in the tank) can also effect coolants ability to return to rad. Check it for cracks, blockages or loose fittings. If the system has a vaccum when opening the cap the afore mentioned should be the only possibilities for failure to function properly that I can think of. Stumpy
  14. Do you have another set of those axles? I need a set as well as an adapter plate. Or if subieman does not purchase them I would be interested. Thankx, Stumpy
  15. I'm a courious creature:brow: by nature and have a FWD 5speed that we fried(Stuck in one gear) getting home. Now that the motor is out it will shift again, whats up with that? Plan on taking it apart just to see what is going on in there. Also have an 4EAT that I'm taking apart as it only has one forward gear and reverse working. Figure I can't do any more damage to it!!
  16. Jerry, could you post those pic's so we all can take a look at them? Kliff may be interested as well for ideas on his projects. Got my EA82T running (Needed timing belt) and thinking it will make a great trike. It's FWD so I can have the motor a litter further back than your neighbors set up. Thanks, Stumpy
  17. It's not in the heater loop but affects that loop also as tunered said. Sounds like a blockage or lack of circulation for some reason. The thermostat is the eaiest place to start. Remove it and see if problem persists. While you have the thermostat out take of the rad cap (Before it gets warm.) and see if there is circulation in the radiator. If you have circulation then the water pump is working. If not, water pump is not working or you have some kind of blockage preventing circulation. Had a night mare of a problem with my 90 Legacy. Two used and two new thermostats and still it over heated with a thermostat in but no problem with it out. Ended up modifying one of the new one's to get the problem resolved.
  18. If the tranny problem started with the engine swap I would check the wireing harnes to the throttle body and the throttle body solenoid. I was fooling with mine last week and took off up the hill, only had 1st and 2nd. 3rd & 4th where like neutral. Thought that was strange as it always worked before and then I remembered I had unpluged the throttle body to see how it came apart as I was having difficulity with another one. Stopped, plugged it back in and 3rd and 4th came back! What a relief!! Could be some thing else but worth checking out. Stumpy
  19. {(Disclaimer) The title was in no way ment to insult or offend any one from Wisconsin, moving to Wisconsin or in any way associated with Wisconsin!!} I bought an "89" GL10 Wagon a couple weeks ago for scrap price. It has some cancer so it won't make a pretty car but only has 132K on the clock. It's a turbo FWD Auto model. Other than the cancer and no radio it's a nice looking car. The man I bought it from said it ran when it was parked over two years ago and claimed to have put quite a bit of money into since he bought it. (Rebuilt tranny, head gaskets ect.) He's had it since "90" and it still had the Wisconsin plates on it when I bought it. So I have named it the CHEESEMOBILE, could be swiss at that. The timeing belt on the drivers side was shot. Don't see how it could have run at all to get in that shape. Only about 10 good teeth left on the belt. Finnaly got aroud to doing the belts today (My first EA82) and it fired up first turn of the key!! Not bad I fugure as the timing case on disty side has a large chunk out of it where the timing mark was. This job would not have been possible with out the knowledge I have learned from others on this message board. Thankx for all your help and support, Stumpy
  20. No garage so I've been slow getting things checked out. Put up an awning yesteday so I would be out of the rain at least. Didn't rain here today, go figure. Yes, oil level is fine. Yes, the oil is burnt. Won't get a chance to drop pan until I finish the timing belt I'm working on, my first EA82 project.
  21. Hey kliff, what do you think about that subie set up? I wasn't thinking that you could use the complete subie drivetrain. Should hold out better than the VW transaxle as they were designed for considerably less HP. I have a EA82T FWD Auto that just my be my ticket when the time comes. Pushing about 115HP stock. Wouldn't mind checking out any pic's you have for comparison. Stumpy
  22. If the one blackbart has doesn't work out I have one off a 91 manual that is a Hitachi unit.
  23. Just bought the car and haven't had time to investigate to far. D, 3 and 2 give the same response. Starts out in second and thats as far as it goes. Drop it into 1 and it locks up! It will move if you give it enough gas but acts like the break is on. Rolling at a few MPH and dropped into 1 and it stopped like I hit the break. Crusing along at 40MPH and tried out all top 3 gears no change except for when I went from 2 up. RPM dropped and acted like it wanted to shift or coast but then caught 2nd right back to where I was before. Previous owner had been driving it around town for the past 14 months in this state. Motor runs great and I aquired it for my EA81 lift project but thought if it was some simple or inexpensive fix I might consider fixing and turning over as the rest of the car is in decent condition. Will get back to you after I have had a chance to check it out a little further. Thanks, Stumpy
  24. Thanks for the replies all. I put www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap in my files for future reference as I'm sure I will need more information down the road. The auto ECU would be easiest as I think I fried the manual one fooling aroud with it before I got a clue on an earlier project. I willl research to see if there is some way to avoid the idle fluctuating problem. Although with only one leg the faster idle may be a plus. Will think on that one. I have the unit that oregonloyal is looking for and I didn't want to shoot my self in the foot by offering it to him only to find out I need it. Thanks again for all you techinical advice.
  25. Welcome aboard kliff. I'm a new user my self. Found this MB about a month ago. Lots of good information and helpful people here. I'm intersted in the trike application my self. Lost left leg on a Scooter VS Olds 98 some years ago. Would love to get the wind in my hair again. (That will be mustache as I keep what is left on my head shaved.) Cheers, Stumpy:banana:
