  1. you might try getting somebody to hold the brake while you tighten it,and yes remove the bolt, put loctite on the threads and retighten it.
  2. this is usually what works for me,let the car warm up to reg temp, shut off.restart, let run for 2 seconds and shut off.do this 5 times.your lifter will now be pumped back up. ed
  3. this really sounds like a almost plugged fuel filter, you mentioned filters, was fuel one of them?
  4. where in the hell do you guys but 85 octane,i looked at 6 stations today and can find no less than 87 octane. they read 87-91-93 octane. i thought 87 was standard. reg
  5. usually when a heater acts like that it is low on coolant, may have to pull the cap off cold and fill radiator that way and then fill the overflow tank, not sure about your noise.
  6. in my opinion there are big differences in gas quality, some even smell different,85 octane? i think 87 is the lowest around here.try a better known brand name,im betting it will help.remember you get what you pay for.[there are exceptions to this rule].
  7. i think the gasoline we are getting is so inconsisent there is no way to get a accurate milage, mine does this too and ive heard other stories of the same. i quit worring about it and just put some in when i need to.
  8. just keep in mind that you are getting into the milage area that things will go bad,if you are willing to fix a few things go for it,i think its too much money. not too many autos trans make it that far with out problems.
  9. i cant think of anything sweet related to a wheel bearing,a sweet smell will come from antifreeze but cant imagine the two related. i would check for leaks.where is international in the rockies?
  10. holy cow never heard of a headgasket problem with a subaru,if you can get them to fix it i will suggest it be put into a sticky on this forum so everybody else can learn how to do it.
  11. mine did this today for the first time. it was 2 below this mourning,it stumbled on first attempt then wouldnt fire or acted that way, said hell with that and came back inside. waited about 10 min and tried again, held gas pedal to the floor and i could hear it trying to go, so i just stayed on the starter untill it picked up rpms and cleared out. dont really know why but you might try that procedure.
  12. if you have a wagon there should be a plate under the carpet in the rear, take out the screws in the plate. you should be able to put a test light to the pump plug and see if you have power there.
  13. the fluid is more than likely wore out,i know a mailman that puts the fuse in for summer deliveries with no ill effects. i would at least have the fluid changed, most here recomend a flush of the trans fluid. good luck
  14. since its allready together i believe you might as well give it a try, might have been leaking before, just not enough to make any difference.if you have any problems at least you know where to look.
  15. i bet you about fell over when you heard that,i would take them back off and at least get some valve lapping compound and reseat them. ed
  16. remember this is only guesses never heard of this before. most people will agree that the trans might not be the cause, we are thinking something else wrong, maybe a plugged line or mashed line not letting fluid circulate.you are right about the pump and most likely they were fine.
  17. the wiper was most likely froze to the glass and when you turned them on it stripped the spline in the arm, take it off and see whats messed up.
  18. cookie, went back and read the first post,he said the mech found a plugged cat and cleared the plug, that means to me he took a pipe thru the cat and knocked some out, probally the same problem he started with.
  19. cookie.i understand the cam timing,i was really wanting to know how well it ran before the new belt and if it ran better after the belt fix,i bet it didnt change anything.i really believe the valve is burnt letting raw fuel thru to the cat plugging it up. dont understand the o2 sensor change making the engine stall.
