  1. i cant imangine a 3foot piece of pipe worth 39 dollars but maybe so,i cant see where it would hurt anything, maybe a tad louder but will work.
  2. the radio might sing the blues for you but i dont think it will "talk" the codes for you,do a search for codes you will find all you want.
  3. since this is a warm engine issue i would guess that a injector is sticking and flooding the engine,i would try some seafoam in the gas tank.
  4. im no expert and nobody seems to really know why these things act the way they do,supposedly at slow speeds in 1-2 gear the awd drive mode is 50 percent front 50 percent rear,as you speed up it goes down to 95 front 5 percent rear, if you put the fuse in it trips the selinoid in the trans and will not let the rear drive work. the fuse holder is under the hood most likely on pass side next to strut tower,it will hurt nothing to try this.
  5. there was one time this summer mine stuck in 50-50 mode and it sounds just like what you say, pulled over put fuse in holder, started back up. next day took fuse out, never done it again ,yet.
  6. ive had new pads that didnt feel right for 5000 miles, didnt feel like i had much brake at all. then the longer it went the better they got.dont know if its the content of metal in the pads or what, but i know exactly what you are saying.
  7. i think i would hookup a manual oil pressure gauge first and go from there.
  8. sounds like a major vaccum leak, check all the hoses you had off.maybe one is still off or maybe a bad line.
  9. you might want to go back where you had the code read and find out,he must have looked it up to know he didnt have it. couple optitions here buy the part anf find someone to install or just take it and have it checked and fixed.
  10. ckeck out this thread from this board.http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47262
  11. first off i dont think they are bad yet, some of the signs are ,overheating, bubbles in the recovery tank, water in oil, dead cyclinder, steam out the back.im sure theres some more that i missed, but wait till the fat lady sings,i like to know what im paying for.
  12. from what you are saying about the hard drive, maybe this is "spark knock",next time you are low on fuel try preimium, just 5-8 dollars worth till you see if that helps. most small exhaust leaks make themself known when the engine is lugging.
  13. i would check condition of battery,if that checks out i would hace starter check to see how many amps it pulling while cranking.
  14. the black soot to me would mean intake valves are hanging open or not seating.
