FYI, an ebay auction ended yesterday for a Holley remanufactured carb for your car. $75.00 starts the bidding with free shipping. It had no bids. The auction was reset and it's up again. Doug

Well, I missed driving it but I got over it. Here's what I traded for...everything you see there, I built. I chem stripped and sand blasted this one. You're probably not going this far with your truck huh? Thought you might like to see this. The V-8 bellhousing original to these years, was part of the motor mount deal, with the front up rights and rubber mounts on the bell. I had a chain from the left frame rail to the engine block to keep it in place. I see your truck has floating rear axles and 8 lug, 3500. My daily driver now is a 3500 Chevy, but it's a "one ton" type truck with ten lug. I'm kinda sure they considered my truck a half ton... Looking foreward to more pics:) Doug Oh, I had this one quite a bit longer than the truck.

I have better pics but I'd have to find them. I owned this '57 3100 in the late '70's. I bought it in Newport News, Virginia for $1100.00. I later traded it for a '68 Z28 Camaro when I lived in Colorado. When I got it, came with a whole new clutch setup, Genuine GM 11" flywheel to pressure plate, as the old was slipping. I went through a few Muncie 4 speeds and one rear end while I had it. It had a '68 large journal 327 CI./275 HP however...It had been dyno tuned by Motion Performance out in Long Island, NY. It had: 700 cfm Holley dual line double pumper, Eldebrock C4B intake, Erson 292 duration, 490 lift cam, ACCEL dual point distributor and Mallory coil, Hooker headers, 252 low gear Muncie with a 3:90 gear in the rear. My BIL took these, a bit overexposed. I ran an AC mechanical fuel pump on the motor but it wasn't enough. Added an AC electric pump to back that up when I was "on" it. It would empty the float bowls somewhere around the end of 2nd gear without the electric. I dropped a '69 350 ci motor in it before I traded it. Doug

Recent pic I snagged on-line. IIRC, China car show, this for the Chinese market. -
That front "muffler/cat" is probably a resonator. I've had factory ones like that and ones shaped like a hotdog. Doug

Anyone have a link for a Walbro pump that will do for a SPFI Loyale? Anyone have a good used pump to offer the OP? I have a friend that needs a fuel pump for her Loyale so I'll get in line behind the OP with that fuel pump request. Doug
-
That Summit pump is for carbs I believe. I recently had to do some looking around for a Loyale pump. The SPFI Airtex pump is about $200.00, and has a max psi of about 60 or so. Northern Auto Parts lists the replacement pump for the MPFI cars for about $130.00, and they have a max psi of 95. It's physically larger than the SPFI pump tho and won't bolt into the fuel pump tray bracket strap. It's the least expensive new pump I've found for these cars recently. Doug Loyale SPFI pump on the left, MPFI Turbo pump on the right.

Here's an EGR story... An LS1 Chevy with AFM (active fuel management) and VVT (the variable valve timing) has internal EGR regulated by the overlap built into the camshaft. I've got two EGRs blocked, one functional on EAs. Doug

Bolt on, there's the Walker Sound FX. If you search RockAuto You'll see APC mufflers listed. I have one of their midpipe resonators, made in Spain, heavy metal with a good paint job. That APC muffler has a 2" inlet, but you have to buy the flanged pipe that goes into the muffler, and a seperate tail pipe. And two clanps. I have a new Walker Quiet Flow installed on one of mine, and it is quiet. Doug

Probably my last EA Rebuild - an EA81T
Quidam replied to Crazyeights's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks like a VF 2 to me. I can't tell if it's cracked in the wastegate area with the wastegate closed. Doug -
The motor and timing...Compression ratio, combustion chamber efficiency are primary factors in base and total timing. The fuel delivery thing...carb less initial timing because you're working with a vac advance and mechanical, spring controlled advance. SPFI, the computer controlls the timeing, you're setting a reference point. I doubt that the SPFI is at 20* advanced while cranking. Just some thoughts off the top of my head. Doug

Hey Moosen, "A final note: Altitude corrections are mostly done with the primary main: one size smaller for every 3000 feet." hth, it's from "The Dime, Quarterly", Datsun Five-Ten Enthusiast publication. It's a tuning guide, Weber DGV to the L series 510 motor. They cover Hitachi DCH 340 in it too. Which really applys to all the Hitachi 2 BBL kin... (and I recommend this guide to a lot of people. IIRC, it was 5$5.00 plus shipping. Not familliar enough with the Weber jetting, they rate the jets different than Hitachi, by flow as well....I've read. Any way, around sea level 115 primary jet, 155 secondary jet would be in a stock Hitachi. A 70 and 100 air bleeds. PS-I've been told, by someone who knows, that a cat will fry JB Weld. Doug

As I understand it with an aeroplane, this turbo setup would be used primarily on take off. Not in use much of the time otherwise. Doug -
Yea, not much info on the B/A "minor" kit. It might not include the base gaskets...on the other hand it could be Genuine Subaru stuff in it. Dunno. SMP should be a safe bet for a complete and quality kit. I like the Holley kits I've bought for Subaru. I think I'd avoid another ROYCE kit... I had one Genuine Subaru kit and of course, it was expected quality and complete. Good luck with it. Doug

EA81T non water cooled turbo to water cooled

Hey Naru, Here's the fsm chart for an EA 82. Coolant flows from the right head to the turbo. -
anti freeze leak from a bolt on the head
Quidam replied to old sub freak's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's a mystery to me why that would leak. Just a hex head bolt with an aluminum washer. I have about a hundred of those new aluminum washers here, from a group of NOS parts I bought on ebay. There could be a crack in the head but not probable. The head (where the washer seats), or aluminum washer may need to be resurfaced. The supply fittings for a turbo use copper washers there on the banjo bolts. Looks like you could find a suitable replacement at any parts store. /me scratches head. hth Doug -
EA81T non water cooled turbo to water cooled
Quidam replied to K9WAGON's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you tap into the "in" heater core hose you'll be sending the hot turbo coolant, via the "out" hose to the water pump, where it gets sent right back through the block. Sent to the intake manifold/thermostat housing area/upper radiator hose, it gets routed through the radiator. hth and makes sense. Doug -

Here's what that looks like. -
Just a couple of pictures so folks know what the pump and area look like. That's a Genuine Subaru gasket, it's multi layered. Here's hoping it can be surfaced and straightened up? Doug

1986 subaru GL carborated...what are my options?
Quidam replied to bombshelboy's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Hey, A poster here has a GL type wagon with lift, which helped with the install of the EJ 20TT. The lift gave him more room for the TT setup, IIRC. Has a 5 speed manual I think. Don't remember the name tho... Doug -
Yea, and thanks for your response. Only EJ I have or have worked on is a bare dual port NOS head. Here's hoping others benefit even more with what I gather isn't common Subie Knowledge...or just wrong information. According to the parts book listings, these lash adjusters were used in Mazda, Geo, Suziki...and some others. IE, that makes it a common part from multiple sources. Is that right? Doug
