Flywheels
Quidam replied to Arty's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Yw. But, now they want about $130.00 shipped! They have 42 of them. They had 2.5 flywheels in mass quantities too, now they don't. They were asking about the same price for them, as they're asking for the 2.2's now. Doug -
Justy running too rich!

Hi, The one cut off is a resonator, pretty sure. Remove the few bolts that hold the heat shield to the exhaust manifold. The cat is held on by 5 or 6 bolts and is large in diameter. Whe you have it off, you're looking directly at the cat material. Doug -

The large canister that bolts to your exhaust manifold is the primary cat. Is this what you cut off? doug -

I don't know. I doubt if you'd get junk with the Delco. But, look here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GENUINE-SUBARU-IMPREZA-LEGACY-FLYWHEEL-OEM-12310AA092-/170534465541?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27b4a57005 Or perhaps here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-LEGACY-IMPREZA-2-2-L-FLYWHEEL-NEW-/120720757307?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c1b84923b Doug -

I've thought Subaru owners are the most overheating group of car owners on the planet. Not only that, but once they over heat, they keep driving... This is even outside the, "overheat but still drive it home" type of folks. Which is bad enough. In the end, it's done because it can be? I don't know. If I have a problem with overheat I either fix it or park it. It's done for, in my mind, until one or the other happens. I've heard of Subie owners overheating a subaru till it locks up multiple times even. I wouldn't have said anything if you hadn't. Doug

I bought ITM engine valves for the Justy and EA-82 from a vender on eBay. The aparantly are a parts Distributor from California, USA. Subaru made .020 pistons and last time I looked, I didn't see them listed anymore from Subaru dealers. Could be they bought them up? I'd have to ask. They would be ATSUGI pistons, if that were so. Doug http://www.itmengine.com/index.html "ITM Engine Components, Inc. is a worldwide distributor and importer of internal engine components for import vehicles. This includes Asian and European vehicles as well as Domestic applications based on import platforms. Our components primarily are for passenger vehicles and light trucks but some engines do also carry over into the industrial market. ITM's parent company is Folks Enterprise LTD. which is located in Taipei, Taiwan. Folks Ent. is a large part of why ITM can bring high quality parts to the US at such low aftermarket prices. Folks Ent. communicates directly with the far east factories that ITM purchases from to make sure that ITM's specifications are met before the parts are ever loaded for shipping. Heavy communication between the factory, Folks Ent, and ITM, is a very thorough process to make sure ITM is providing the best possible component to the automotive aftermarket. The components we distribute meet or exceed OEM specifications for quality. Many of these components are manufactured by the same factories that are contracted by the original auto maker."

help with ticking lifters
Quidam replied to mikewilke77's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, What kind of oil pressure does it carry? Was that a Dealer mechanic on the oil pump? I't not a bad time to put a fresh one in, at that mileage, for the life of the car. But, could be you don't "need" one? Try running it with a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. This may loosen up the HLA if they're just sticking, contamanated, ect. Doug -

But, I've bought ITM parts before that ended up being reboxed Genuine Subaru. Have no idea what you'd get with this package tho. .020 oversize. Doug

What happened? *Coolant Blowout*
Quidam replied to RedRat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, Some thoughts, hth. That rad appears to be Indian. Look where you last worked. The gasket. I would think you didn't get it bled right, too. Are the tanks plastic? I've had them blow out before. Situations where a brass/copper wouldn't. Doug -
"Can you be IN the gear spot (say shifting into second gear) and not drive in 2WD but then you pop the lever into 4WD and in the same gear spot the car will move?" Yes. I snapped a front axel. It does the same thing. And when this happens you're in RWD. Doug

"Thanks for the heads up on rebuilt carbs, i think that is my next step, i should just need that and a mounting gasket right? I will try to pick one up next time i get back from offshore, i head out soon." YW. Yea, the carb and base gaskets. Keep in mind tho, through parts stores, these may cost $250.00, more or less for the remanufactured.

Check to see if your choke is closing. Remove the air cleaner and look. May be accelerator pump shot. When you're checking the choke, peer down into the carb and pump the throttle. You should see it pumping. Without actually seeing it, I can offer this: 1. You, or have someone put a kit in it. 2. Buy a remanufactured carb. For low budget, keep your eye out for something like this: $117.11 plus shipping, if no one else bids. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Arrow-carburetor-Subaru-1982-83-1-6L-1-8L-2-barrel-Hi-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e62e7b2f9QQitemZ130508370681QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories 3. Install a Weber. Around $300.00+
