Why can I not go any faster?
Quidam replied to Dirk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Hey Dirk, This guy did stuff to make his car a lot faster. Have you seen it? http://subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=1807 But I have to tell you, I'm in fear for that engines life. Take a look at his spark plug wires. He has three coils looks like, with OEM type used wires. There's a reason GM went to huge distributor caps. Mfg's went to coil near plug, coil on plug. What else... Anyway, with the power he's making his plug wires should be at least 12mm away from each other and any metal. We're talking bore splitting, head cracking, gasket blowing, type of stuff here with the power he's making. NASCAR runs big sleeves on theirs. I cracked the piston skirts on three forged TRW's one time. This is what that came back to. Live and learn, huh? Later on, Doug -
Low mileage Japenese motor? EA82

Hey Jeff, In my experience, what I get with JDM that's so important, is practically NO bore wear and taper. This is important for longevity. Doug -
RX Tranny Teardown (and rebuild?) WITH PICS

Well, I'll be watching this and the best thing for me to do, would be to split a DR case I have. It's still in the car, so that would be next year. -

"Did the US get D/R EJ boxes?" Nope. And just a thought, If I can have head studs made in India, well.... -
" is the weber larger as well? larger venturis would let you have more power." Yep. Yep.
-
Hey, One big Weber plus is if it's NEW, compared to an old stock carb, of any kind. Doug

"until it dropped to about 1/2 tank " Ah, a clue, but I don't know what tank you have. This is a possibility. One Justy I had did the same thing, and it starts at the parting seam, with no leaks. Eventually you'll see signs down the sides of the tank. I pulled my "good" tank to get it prepped. After I cleaned the corrosion off that seam, I had pinholes. Rustbelt stuff. Doug

Hey, Had hail about the size of accelerator pump check balls for a bit. And light rain, and WIND. Had a tarp over some 2"X8" clear Ash wood, pine I have planed, etc. It ripped that old tarp to shreds. That wind is rocking the house and stuff blown all over. Doug -

"Its starting to hit us now! I want to go and play in it! Mom doesn't think its wise :(" I go out here when it's level 3 "roads closed" type of stuff. The cops who are out there see it's an old Subaru and don't give a hoot:lol: You don't even see many or any of those. They have Crown Vics LMAO People say, "you're going to get arrested". By who? -

Hey Dude, It's raining here now, probably tommorrow too. We've had a really mild winter here, so far. Not even 20 degrees at night until recently. My anti-freeze is good for 12 degrees. This friday night it's projected to be 9 degrees:eek:. I had a water pump seal seeping this summer, did some stuff to it and now it doesn't. That anti/freeze costs twelve bucks a gallon. Yeow. Doug -

Hey, There are cheap parts falling out of the sky it seems... If one falls on my doorstep soon, I tell you what I'll do. I have an industrial Black and Decker half inch angle drill that will break your arms, if you're not carefull. And I can turn the motor at the specified rpm. I'll compression test it wet/dry. I'll leak it down. I'll pull the heads, because I'm doing that anyway. Depending on what I see during all this will determine whether I put new rings in it. It will be one data point for anyone to consider. I've had nothing but good so far with JDM. Doug I don't have a bore scope, but that would be good to do before running any tests. When the head comes off, I check for cracks. -
Hi chef, Take a look at this thread, and there's another there as well. http://subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=howtos&action=display&thread=2257 A carb kit and a gallon of carb chem dip will cost you about $50.00. A chem dip of your carb is probably required to insure it works right when back together. Last Justy feedback carb I had, I replaced it with an ebay remanufactured for, I think it was $110.00. That was on an '89. Doug
-
Hey, I don't know where "Humboldt, Eureka area" is. I've seen reference to 1L, 1 barrel Justys. This could be a feed back carb? Doug
-
Hey, You didn't say one barrel or two. Doug

Quidam replied to Dirk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Well Dirk, it's just one problem after another. My motor doesn't have a knock sensor on it and my first choice is to have one tuned for each cylinder. But I'd be in over my head with that one. I drove a 1982 Chevy Beauville off the showroom floor new. It had ELECTRONIC SPARK CONTROL. It even had a chrome plated badge on the left rear door advertising the fact. It was Carbureted non feedback. I still have the whole system. Can I use that? Doug
