Thanks in advance for sending the originals. floydstover at msn dot Doug -
Hey buzz, It sounds like you're talking about the right inner tie-rod. If it is, replace it. Is the boot torn where it goes into the rack? Doug

EA82 Cooling Improvements???
Quidam replied to benjamachine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an EA-82T wagon that the previous owner blew the engine on. Had a "NEW" single core, plastic/aluminum radiator in the car. When it went, it took out the radiator. Blew it apart at the plastic/aluminum seam on the drivers side. I don't think that would happen as easily with a metal radiator, so that's something to consider when making a choice. I've had two blown EA-82T that came to me with single cores. Both were full of rusty ugly coolant and ruined. Doug -
EA82 Cooling Improvements???
Quidam replied to benjamachine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
"maybe it's better to stick with what was slapped in by those ol' japanese engineers" Mabie someone can help me out here. I'm thinking the Turbo and possibly factory AC EA-82 cars came with a dual core radiator. If the EA-82T with AC came from the factory with a single core radiator, mabie Subaru's second string really did design it. No intercooler factory, that would have helped. Hey, you didn't say which EA-82 you have. Doug -

Hi, Just saw you're in Florida. You don't want this car, seriously. Doug -

Removal of the AC is another option. These older cars aren't worth the time and money to keep it. Not to me, anyway. YMMV Doug -
Hi Tom, Yes, a low mile '88 EA-82 that i drove for a couple of years. New clutch is Beck/Arnley. Aluminum radiator and new engine fan is squared away. Doug

Hey, "Anyhoo, you took the Sway bar off, why? You are using this as a road car, right? Won't be going on trails with those tires anyway." I'll be running back roads through the hills. Gravel roads, ATV type trails. Some back roads here you drive through creeks:) I can get some articulation with the bar off and it helps with ground clearance. The tires...well, they're just what's on it for now. 195/60. I've got the parts for front and rear bars if I want to go that way too. LSD and rear discs as well. I intend to powerwash the "new" motor next. Doug

Hey, Yea, the fenders are genuine Subaru. It looks like Frankenbu. Seven different colors. Front sway bar removed. Parts left out cost nothing. I don't need it where I'll be driving. Suspension, axles, ball joints have allready been gone through. Has power steering, windows/locks. I took the AC off firewall foreward a few years ago. Doug

Hi, Installed two new front fenders today. Hood and front passenger door from an '86 GL-10. New Bosal muffler, two pugs. I don't have enough good pug lug nuts. Power washed it all over, it was dirty from setting so long. Doug

Hey, Starving artist huh...what kind of art? Ain't nothing wrong with "starving" for the cause. You can live about 30 days without food. Mabie you know that. Doug

Hey mentis, : If it ain't broke, don't fix it. " I was a poor college student and $400 seemed like the right price ." Doug

Hey, I've had this car for years. I told you she would be back:). 1989 GL Sedan. SPFI DR 5speed. I moved it out of the weeds tonight. I've got a 129,000 mile motor for it. It was my wheeler for a year, was a really nice car when I got it. Doug "It's always a good day, when you get new tires".

Hi, Only one I've found in a kit. New to me, mabie not to you? http://www.jcwhitney.com/TOPLINE-ENGINE-REBUILD-KITS/GP_2005218_N_111+1987+200729191+600001697_10101.jcw Doug

Hi Subarule, "Thermostat is a 192-degree 1972 - 1989 Subaru GL Beck Arnley Thermostat Thermostat" That's a FAILSAFE MotoRad Made in Israel. Automatically LOCKS OPEN to permit coolant flow when overheating occurs. "Once the FAILSAFEThermostat has locked open, it must be replaced. It cannot be used again." Not all B/A stats are like this. "How did you come across them? Maybe there are more parts i need just hiding?" Hi, A regular e-mail notice is how I learned of those panels. BTW, JC Whitney has some too. Well...parts are out there, what do you need? As you can see, folks here can and will help you out. Doug I just got barked at:)

Hi, Here's one:http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p4634.m38.l1313&_nkw=rear+wheel+repair+panel+loyale&_sacat=See-All-Categories Two:http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Lake-Erie-Trading-Post__W0QQ_sidZ99783440?_nkw=subaru+loyale&submit=Search&LH_TitleDesc=1 No rear panels but they're easier to fabricate. YW, Doug

Hey, Rock/Auto, $52.00 aftermarket front fender...but shipping might make you cringe. I checked with a guy I bought 4 NOS fenders from, he's out. You didn't ask but, rocker panels and fender arches were listed yesterday with ebay. Aftermarket. That's all I got for you. hth Doug

Hi Dude, "Sorry GD but i have yet to find a 58 dollar radiator from ebay." I bought a like new brass/copper for $40.00, shipped from California from ebay. If you look up Kaiser Radiator ebay, you'll find a brass/copper 3/4" single row for $75.00 plus shipping. Last one. Two radiators you may not have looked at...I'd have to pay state tax and shipping unless I drove up there. Look at this:http://www.summitracing.com/users/wishlist.aspx?id=fec8733d-c162-4da3-a862-9d19f2eddcf0 Check Silla for aluminum with plastic tanks. Single row and double row quality drop in for less than $200.00. Check CSF for brass/copper, made in Indoneisa, lower price. I see nothing wrong with my single row CSF...the one I paid $40.00 for. Doug And here's something I read that may be of interest, from U.S. Radiator. BTW, they don't offer a drop in rad for our cars. "After three years of testing the leading radiators on the market today, (aluminum & copper/brass) we can honestly say our new Triple FlowT radiator design is SIMPLY THE BEST. For pure temperature drop inlet to outlet no other radiator came close. The amazing amount of additional temperature drop is obtained by passing the hot coolant through the core and air stream three times before returning it to the engine. Until now, this unique baffle design was only available for "hard to cool" racing applications. For an EA-82T, at the end of the day, take a temp gun and measure the temperature drop inlet to outlet, and you'll know what you need to do. If it gets or runs hot, it may detonate. If it does that it may go boom. We've learned, for example, that core design has more bearing on temperature drop than material (copper- brass verses aluminum). We've also learned that 2 rows of 1-1/4" aluminum tubes had only a 3-degree advantage over 4-rows of 1/2" brass tubes at 65 m.p.h and a 2-degree disadvantage at idle. Given the added core thickness of the aluminum radiator we had expected a greater temperature drop...but, it wasn't there.

I haven't got that far yet. I have an ad here for a Gen 1 single port NOS head. I'd like to take 4 heads to Fowler in Ohio here and have them put on the flowbench. I've ported one junk head. Pocket port, cut the valve guides a bit. Mostly concentrated on the area of the valve seat. Polished valves, backcut with seats narrowed. A picture worth a thousand words, I know. I'll have to look. I scrapped that head. I'll say this: Next ones, I want machined in a lot of areas. Then clean it up. Port and polish. I'm pretty sure the most bang for the buck is going to be what happens around the valve and seats. Doug

that being said, has anyone done a serious head massage on the EA82 TBI heads? was there ANY gain in power or delivery to be had? Yes. Yes. It's expensive tho. Doug
-
Used Gen 1 heads. New Valves New lash adjusters Custom Intake I'm putting it away for now. It's summer time. Doug

Hi Mal, A hands on second opinion is needed, IMHO. Even a third. I wouldn't focas on the problem but concentrate on the solution. If this engine is rebuilt, a little leakage is acceptable. If it's remanufactured, it better be on the money. Yea, this is got to be more than you bargined for. A headache for all involved. Doug

Hi Mal, "What is fuel wash?" That's what popped into my head, just a guess. In this case gasoline washing the oil off the cylinder walls and rings. I don't know. I do sense you're close to getting this resolved tho. Mabie the engine guy at CCR just can't do rings on 1 and 3? My sense of humor is still intact. Doug
