The U.S Gen1 models were 87-88 and the 89-94 models were Gen2. This was U.S only, though. The actual Gen1 models worldwide started in 83? But don`t quote me on that one. As far as I know, there is 4 generations of Justys since they are still sold across the pond. Gen3 models were actually Geo Metro`s with a AWD driveline that Subaru sub-contracted out to Geo/Suzuki. I wish they were sold here in the U.S since there is a huge amount of (2wd`s) running around to scavenge parts from. I would have easier luck finding parts for a Stutz Bearcat and probably cheaper than hunting down parts for my 88 4wd. You see they offered 4wd in 88 and changed almost the entire design in 89, thus I`m stuck with a rarity for securing parts on the drivetrain. I have been able to modify some parts from a Gen2 to apply to mine but others are difficult.

Thanks for the response oronocova. Do you have a Gen1 Justy?

+1 After rebuilding the front end on my Justy, I inadvertantly forgot a bolt on my caliper and had the caliper work out from the bottom until it was bouncing off my wheel going down the highway sounding like a machinegun and I was so torqed:mad: all I could think of was one of the remanufactured halfshafts had just wasted itself. I limped the car back home and after finding the problem bounced my skull off the driveway a couple of times to remind myself not to get over anxious when getting close to finishing a project...

My 87 Loyale wgn had rivnuts on it also, but they were on all 4 rails. I installed rails on my 93 Loyale wgn and mounted a roof basket. I drilled and installed heavy pop rivits. It gives you a real queasy feeling when drilling holes into your car roof. LOL:slobber: I coated the rivits with silicone and the bottom of the rails. Wiped off any excess and it looked good. I have done this to my Justy also with no problems.

Esteban, I`m hanging in there for the long haul!< Good advice, I forgot about the center hole protrusions and center hole sizing. Had it in my head that all I need to look for were 4x100`s with a 35* offset. Thanks for bringing that aspect to the table. I knew you guys would help out through your own experiences. RenaissanceMan, I like the wheels you had and especially the grips that were mounted on it. But is`nt that a Gen2 Justy?

Nipper> SHHHSH were here, always lurking in the shadows... Thanks for the response Quidam, I thought Gen1 Justys (87-88) came factory with 145/r12 and the Gen2 came with 165-65-13. I have 155/r12`s on it now and was wondering if any Justy owners with the Gen1 have installed 13`s without having to modify since it`s real tight quarters on all 4 corners ?

Hi All I have a 88 4wd with 12" wheels on it and was thinking about bumping up in size and was wondering what wheel/tire combos are out there reasonably priced to fit on the car without going through any headaches of modifying the fenders or fenderwells. Any and all suggestions appreciated...

what year models EA82 have carb vs. FI?
RONAN replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry dude, my 87 4wd Loyale wgn was FI, and it could`nt have came from California because it did`nt have the special California emissions unlike my Toya 4-runner... -
Are you sure your not talking about the brake drum adjustment???

Ahh really bad smell still
RONAN replied to Prospeeder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check along the hump and floor area for any heat. I had a problem once, where I had lost a heat shiel and it was actually starting to cook the carpet, putting off a acrid foul smelling odor. Try spraying down the seats and carpet with frebreeze. -
Retired the 87 Loyale when the driver`s side sub-frame finally gave way. Traded it off for work performed on my 93 loyale. Found out later that it was still running around town. It`s in real bad shape now, the last time I saw it.

On the Loyale wagon, my Blizzaks have held up very well. I`ll buy another set when the time comes...

Wheel bearing removal from a 90 loyale turbo

Yet another Roof Rack Question ...
RONAN replied to Davalos's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I installed the roof or luggage track rails on my 93 and mounted a bauer extended cargo basket to it. Being involved with the boyscouts, I`ve had 5 fully loaded backpacks on sides on top before or I`m guessing close to 400lbs. I also installed a cargo basket on my 88 Justy because of the lack of space in the car. I use it all of the time. I`ve had as much as 250lbs loaded. I installed rails from a volvo wgn cut down and made my own mounting brackets. -
That`s funny, I had a 87 gl 4wd wgn with the ea82 spfi that I bought new from the dealership, that came with a dealer installed towing hitch and light kit. My owners manual had a section on towing and if I remember right? it said that it was not recommended to tow more than 1500lbs?

Wheel bearing removal from a 90 loyale turbo
RONAN replied to Pooparu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used a 3/4" bolt and nut, and a stack of washers on each side to press mine in. -
More electrical problems. All warning lights on
RONAN replied to youareabus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I`ve had this happen in 2 of my scoobs. Both times it was the diodes in the alternator. An alternator produces a/c voltage and the diodes converts it to d/c. Get your alternator checked out... -
Purge solenoid INSANITY!
RONAN replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I can sympathize. I bought my 93 Loyale wagon 7yrs ago and dealt with the same issue. I noticed after I bought it that the woman had customized a piece of black electrical tape over the cel indicator on the dash. So I called her up about it and she profusely apologized about it saying that she forgot to mention it. (Yea Right) Anyway, she said that she had spent a couple of hundred to have it troubleshoot by a Subaru tech and they replaced the solenoid and it did`nt do any good. They threw the towel in and admitted that it is beyond their capability to fix and that it would be very costly to correct. (New one on me) They told her if she can stand the light to be on, that it would`nt affect the performance of the car. So she covered the light with the tape. So I downloaded the code and sure enough, it was the carbon canister purge solenoid. So I got another from the u-pull it and changed it out again, to no avail. So, I`ve been driving it with the light on ever since. Every once in a while, it will go out for a few miles and then come back on again, but were talking about every 4 or so months. -
Justy timing belt change?
RONAN replied to chris in va's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Chris, I`m considiring on changing mine out also. I have an 88. Just curious, how long did it take you from start to completion??? -
Shop I went to offered me a deal that I could`nt refuse. Apparently a guy ordered a set of Thrush for his Silverado and changed his mind. He insisted on flowmasters instead. He paid for the Thrush and told them to keep them. The guy told me if I was interested, he would just charge me labor to install and at first I was skeptical, but told him to go for it. I LOVE the sound that is produced from it. Not loud at all but a gutteral throaty pitch that will make people take notice... This is on a non-turbo EA82 though.

Every leak that I`ve had was a pain in the a$$ to locate. I`ve had one on the 90deg hose under the A/C compressor, the 90deg coming off of the back of the manifold under the spare tire, from the o-ring at the metal pipe attached at the water pump, and one of the heater hoses under the spare tire... Good luck in your endeaver...

I got mine off of EBAY. AutoZone sold the cv/halfshaft assembly complete for $60.

Just wanted to say that I bought a new 4wd GL wagon off the lot in 87 that had a 3:70LSD. It was NOT a turbo. From what I`ve gathered, I had an extreme rarity, but they ARE OUT THERE:headbang:

Couple of similar problems that I`ve had in the past with my wagon were exhaust making contact with the rear driveshaft (4wd). The other was heat shield loose.
