Sorry kosta no picture, these recollections were around 20 yrs ago. The difference i saw was in the selector housing, on the top of the housing where it bolts up to the main case i noticed the casting where the bearing sits is bigger on the 1300/1400 box to the 1100 box, other than that they looked identical. never split the boxes to see internally. Kosta, My experiance with the FF1 box's was there is a difference between the 1100 and 1300 box, from the 1300 onwards things seemed the same. The changes on the boxes was around the back of the main housing where the selecter housing bolts up, i noticed it when i had the 2 boxes side by side and a 1400 box as well. My intention was to find a early 1400 5 speed and fit the 5th gear onto the 1300 box, as you might know the 5th gear was in the selector housing as well as the 4wd transfer gear, just incase you looked at going down the 4wd route. Hope this helps Thierry -
I was going to pay 10G for a ff1 1300G sports from japan if i could get it out of the country. Thierry

how hard is the rubber on the inside, if it is still soft enough just put pressure from inside out, ( i used to sit on the seats with my feet on the screen ), and get a friend to help roll the inside rubber where the pressure is to realease it, once it has started then it is easier from there. GSR as well for sale
maudsland replied to maudsland's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I enquired out this car a few months ago through an importer in australia, he came back the car can not be exported as it is not registered and no proof of ownership, or something like that. Basically stops exporting stolen cars if you know what i mean, even though this car is legit. It would be a nice car, set up for competion and all. If i could read japaneese and make contact with the seller there might be away around it, but i have no way of doing that. Thierry -
same site came across a GSR and the 1300g sport that i can't get out of the country. http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/2084048120-category-leaf.html Thierry

leaking massive oil out the exhaust
maudsland replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Well you guessed it you have an oil leak, where from, could be from a few places, my guess would be the front oil seal or maybe the rocker covers, but anywhere, as for the smoke, the oil is just leaking onto the exhaust. to find the leak clean down the engine till no traces of oil then start the car and see where it is coming from. A Question for the Old Gen Gurus
maudsland replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
It will bolt up no modification but why, the port on the manifold is smaller that on the 1600 Thierry -
Sounds like an exhaust valve has gone, 2 things you can do 1; if parts are still available ie head gaskets and valves give it a head job and regrind your valves into the head. 2; as mention before retro fit a 1600, not that difficult but you need to swap the bellhousing off the 1400 onto the 1600, it does fit up trust me, use the 1400 flywheel and space it out about 5mm -1/4 inch and find a bearing you can press into the flywheel to use as a spigot bearing. i am pretty sure that is all you need to do it has been over 20 years since i did it. The sleeve gasket don't come in one size fits all, they come in different thickness to suit your engine, you can get away with a copper gasket once you know what your thickness you need, from memory you need to have the sleeve protrude the block by about 3 thou so it give possitive sealing on the gasket and a good seal around the head gasket. common problem why head gaskets kept on failing once the headgasket was ever replaced. Also applies to the 1400 ea63 Thierry -

These are as rare as rocking horse poop, even more rare than a unsold still wraped in plastic FF-1, but around there are twin exhaust port heads to suit a ea71, and i am sure that the 71 and 81 heads interchangeable. How do i know about these rare heads, ive seen a set from a guy who rallied a factory subie back in the mid 70's. I bought my first FF-1 sports off this guy. In saying i have modified a set of ea63 heads to fit a ea71, went like a rocket, i think i said how it was done somewhere in this thread or another FF-1 linked thread. Cheers Thierry -

Kosta, in my tool box i have a special tool to undo the bottom 2 nuts on the trany/ engine, basically just a 17mm ring open spanner heated and bent into a z shape to clear, can still use the spanner on other jobs even if it is bent. but before i made the tool i used to jack the engine up enough with the trany to access the nuts. CV Roll Pin/Tension Pin Question
maudsland replied to Crabman's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
The car being japanese it is metric not imperial, so if the 1/4 pin started but not all the way that mean the splined shaft would have a 6mm hole so a 6mm pin is what you are after. Thierry
