That would be great, but you might have to 'splain to me how to turn it on.

Thanks! I have now not only heard of heard of 'em, but have a limited understanding of what they are. I am happy that there are people with more IT knowledge than I've gathered and that they share it to make my life easier.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a torrent?

so really, how complicated is it to wire an ej swap???
capn_r replied to doobieryan's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
That is what I did on mine. I drove the car into the shop with the cut down harness laying on the cowl when the engine got pulled. I plugged the EJ into the GL and was driving it the next day. I would recommend this method to anyone who has the space for both vehicles. -
I think you can use your existing shifter and just come up with the low range shifter. An I mistaken guru's?

Seattle/Kitsap: Helicoil 11x1.25 needed
capn_r replied to NorthWet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess I'm confused, a 7/16 fastener is somewhere in the area of .0025 smaller than an 11 mm fastener if my math isn't messed up. (about the thickness of a human hair) So if a helicoil for that od (go with 20 treads per inch rather than 14 for the sake of the discussion) and a 7/16 fastener is used in that location, what is the HUGE can of worms? -

Could you do that hole with a 7/16 14 Helicoil instead? There should be lots of that size around. Just a thought. -
Is there possibly some conflict with the EA81 pressure plate and the EA82 release bearing? When I did my swap I used a complete XT6 clutch kit and machined an EA81 flywheel to the XT6 step dimension and it has always worked fine for me.

For Shame... and Giggles
capn_r replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Check the oil cooler adapter above the oil filter, it has an o-ring on the top side that likes to emulate an EA82 and mark it's spot. Eight dollars at a dealer and you get a clean driveway. -
Remember that the springs will be even more stiff when you shorten them, but it may be what your are looking for.

Some of Miles Fox's stuff. Dig a little here and I'm sure you will find what you need. http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/service/service.htm

Yes one of the wires from the computer increases the idle speed with the compressor engaged. I don't recall which and I'm not where my manuals are. My foggy memory is coming up with plug c pin 9 but I could very well be mistaken. If you don't get it sorted let me know and I will be a bit more definitive when I get a look at my FSM and notes from my swap.

So should another old fart stop by and give you a hand putting it in tomorrow?

I have had the XT6 spec (.815?) born on two different flywheels that were both from EA82T's. I was going to do the step reduction and didn't need to. I would check it you may not need to machine yours. Chux, did you check yours?,maybe you got lucky like I did.

Good call Yo'buddy, Napa lists the 23 spline inner on 93 and 94 FWD manual Impreza's only. With any other transaxle he would have the same issues as the 5 lug swap people do sourcing an axle.

My guess would be that the drivetrain is bound up. If so it should be as simple as backing up some or worst case jack up a rear wheel and see if it frees up and comes out of four wheel drive.
-
With the exception of a clean up of the recessed friction surface (which is the part near the bolts) nothing will get any closer due to the area where the clutch cover bolts on is what gets machined to convert the flywheel to the XT6 spec's. It's been done lots of times, I can't see any problem.

I'm running hub's redrilled to 4x100 on my GL10, it works fine. The center hole on the wheels I run is pretty small so the tangs in the center of the hub that normally locates the 4x140 factory wheels is machined off.

Agreed. Domestic vehicles in the 70's (R-12 systems)began having a different fitting on the high side on them for I'm sure that reason. But as you stated, charging into the high side on an evacuated system can't be a problem with pressures as the can pressure would be reduced until the can and system pressure stabilized.
