So, I'm still working on this '05 WRX; I Pulled the turbo out and the turbine does spin and doesnt have any play in it. Though, the car does have ~150k and the turbo needs to be rebuilt, but thats a different project for a different day. Put the turbo in and it feels like there is a little boost now but, it bucks at you right around when the turbo would put out boost (around 3 - 4k on the tach). Any ideas? i was going to suggest a tune up. but im thinking it wont help much.. Ideas? -Justin

Lay it flat, wrapped in blankets and maybe a tie-strap or two lightly holding it in place? I transported mine sitting vertical in the floorboards wrapped in blankets.. they are pretty durable - considering they sit on the front of your car ;-) edit: good luck getting it out... i hear thats the hard part. Im trying to get one for my back window and am thinking of just getting the entire liftgate. -Justin

Ok, yea. by fine i mean it spins, no In/out play and no wiggle play. it does have a lot of oil on the intake side - probably the reason for the low oil problem and it does need to be rebuilt with as many miles as it has on it. The bonkers part is: no CEL. Yes, the light works on initial "key-on" test and Yes, I've plugged a reader in just for giggles and returned no codes :-/. We were thinking of putting it all back together and putting a boost gauge on it to see.. kinda wish we did that in the first place, though it really looked like it was shot. -Justin

i can't remember what type of relay they have in there but you can test it to be sure with just some wire (speaker wire works) and your battery. usually, the numbers match up and a lot of the time there are diagrams on the relay itself before you do anything, If you have a DMM, probe for connectivity between "30" and "87a" it should be good. apply +12 power to "85" and "86" (doesnt matter which polarity), and it should click. with power applied, now probe between "30" and "87a" again-there shouldn't be any connectivity. probe "30" and "87" - you should have connectivity. If all that works, then the relay is fine. this is for a standard "accessory" relay so double check what yours is before probing. This should give you an idea if there is a diagram on the relay you have, you can see how it works in order to test it. -Justin

Down-Right-Sexy. I particularly like that the Ram in the last picture has smaller tires than the subaru lol! -Justin

be sure to "throttle" your engine. I've seen 30MPG in my little Impy and about 38 out of my old GL wagon. I drove down to Trinidad on monday, and Cheyenne on tuesday.. ~26-30MPG round trip.. I throttle it at 70mph on cruse and kick it off on hills so it doesnt down-shift going up those hills - thats where you really kill your hwy miles. keeping the engine speed at around 2500 - 3k.. will help keep your mpg up.. any higher and you are putting more engine energy to keep the speed up there. 70mph is about what i cruse at.. sources: I hypermile! -Justin

Well, Its just me in my car 95% of the time. the other 5% is the occasional person to give a ride. they can deal most of the time I'm either otr (over the road) or cruising around town at work and talking to myself only goes so far lol! -Justin

I had to resurrect this one because.. Well, I had to. My Step-dad gave me his "trucking" CB before he retired from the road and eventually passed away. Its a Galaxy DX959. Tweaked and peaked with a little "box" to help me reach out and smack someone. I need a new antenna but I got ears! -Justin

To add, He's been topping off the oil and just put 4 qts or so in after we drove it. We took the inter-cooler off and there was a lot fresh oil in it as well as the outtake of the turbo. We didn't have a whole lot of time to tear down to get to the turbine and ended up putting it back together. With the fresh oil in the intake, and as much as there was, a seal/bearing in the turbo had to've blown right? -Justin

actually, thats the part that really *ticks* me off. an '05 WRX.. thats the car of my dreams! and he goes and wrecks the engine within 2 months of owning it. I would've worshiped that car and he seizes the turbo?!? I guess that's the difference between a guy that's worked for each and every car he's owned - and the guy that's had every car he's owned given to him. -Justin

I ran mine through the grommet behind the petals and ran it along the door jams. Just pull the trim out, and run it under the carpet. no zip-ties needed it just sits there. put the carpet back and the trim and voila! you cant see it and it only took me ~5 minutes per door to do it. before i bought mine, the previous owner had 2x 12's and 1500w. on zero gauge.. I ran it the same way. No pictures of her install though, but here's my little-bitty amp/sub -Justin

Another thing is too, He's only had the car 2 months. (just plated it yesterday). I Advised them of needing a rebuild and to not be surprised when it comes around. More interested in a bigger better turbo - even though I told him he really doesnt need much more than what he has already. And if he couldnt pay attention to it as a stock turbo, what makes him think a bigger one is going to be easier. I think he just wants to listen to it whistle, and thats what it "takes". His mom is paying for the new turbo so whatever she says goes.. -Justin
