So, I posted earlier that my wife's cousin went and bought himself a '05 WRX. Yesterday I talked with him and apparently its not fast enough for him. Really? dude I'm surprised he still has his license. Anyway, So I take it for a spin, Notice his Air bag light is on, but more importantly... Zero Turbo Spool. Drives really choked out and the turbo does not spool up at all, not even at higher RPMS. Turn around to tell him the bad news and also notice his Oil light turned on. Wthell? Park it, pull the dipstick clean it and put it back in.. out - DRY! So Obviously, he seized his turbo because of lack of oil. (which irritates me because I gave him the run-down when he bought this car about taking care of the turbo) I doubt it, but thought I'd ask - Has anyone fixed their seized turbo? What I'm sure happened is he blew a seal and any oil he has is just being thrown down the exhaust. also, does anyone know if a cheap but decent place to find one? thanks! -Justin

Yea, or if it is even plugged in.. I freaked out for a few miles when i was driving through Wyoming because I went from a good pressure to ZIP. turned out it came loose and fell off. -Justin

I saw that too! You might be a soob owner if: your wife laughs at you because you are yelling at the TV commercial saying "NO ITS NOT!!!" -Justin -
If i remember correctly, they are just pop-ins on the dash. Use a Flat-head screwdriver or a soft plastic tool to pop it off without damaging it. Video ;-): I've done a number of my own installs/removals as well as some monster installs. The doors are usually pretty strait-forward, check for any anchor screws, usually in the armrest/handle and behind the door handle. Again, pop-in/outs.. Dont force it but just keep an eye on it and see how it comes out. As far as the speakers, if you replace them, I'd be sure to tap (clip into) to the plug instead of cutting the plug off. Makes for putting the stock ones back in easier if/when you sell the car. If not, you can but-connect new wires to it or wire directly to the speaker. -Justin

have you checked any other fuses under there? or were they labeled cigarette? My other car has 2 different circuits for the +12const and 12+switched/cigarette. couldn't say for certain on yours, don't have a '06 forester. but usually that's the way it goes. maybe try another fuse and check the fuse holder connections to make sure something didn't get pushed in and isn't making a good connection to the fuse. -Justin

+1 its a lot easier to drop the bulb in and make it work, but a lot of them "ricers" (around here at least) dont think that far ahead.. lot of the time they need to be aimed way low.. I have Projection HIDs in one of my cars.. love 'em. Nice and bright and the horizon is set perfect. I'm gathering parts to do projection HIDs on my impreza.. -Justin

Yea, The carrier bearing appears to be in "ok" shape. Didn't see any play in the drive shaft but i did notice that one of the joints kind've popped when you flipped it a certain direction. wasn't really much at all but i guess it wouldn't take much at all to start a vibration. Thanks for the help! -Justin

The Crazyman is back!

I was hoping to get a new rear window this week and ended up spending for the two bushings for the differential. I was tearing out some of the broken glass stripping on the tail gate today - I'm NOT touching that glass on the car thats at the wrecking yard. it will surely break! I did notice that my spoiler is mounted TO the glass?? I kept the mounts and can try and get some of the tar/glass off of them. maybe i can mount them to the new tailgate?? -Justin -
ok.. I dropped the drive shaft and put it in FWD. ZERO vibration. I realize that the bushings likley needed replacing, but I (financially) would've liked to put it off. question, if it was the carrier bearing, it would still vibrate right? I'm thinking i'll probably replace them both anyway. have to wait for funds though. -Justin

Ok, I take that back. There's still a vibration and it starts around 30ish. I'm thinking I'm going to drop the drive shaft and try the FWD fuse to see if it isn't my rear diff causing the vibration or maybe the drive shaft. I at least think the drive shaft is in decent shape. only problem is now that i spent 100 bucks on those stupid bushings, i dont have the 30 bucks to get a new carrier bearing and/or the drive shaft -Justin

Well, I got the new bushings in. I was debating making a writeup for it. removing them and pressing the new ones in without taking the cross member out was.... interesting. I still have a slight vibration only between 60ish through 70ish.. I got a call form your shop shawn.. i still might stop by, mainly to say hi and check the place out. -Justin

Hmm.. Well, there's a wrecking yard that I was going to go to today to get the rear glass. Hopefully the entire Drive Shaft from the tailhousing to the rear diff are there. One thing that I ran into when i removed the current bushings (just the center parts.. not the entire bushings) that they were brittle and probably have been out for a while I think. when I inspected everything down there though, nothing really looks shifted forward. I looked at the 2 other bolts that hold the diff mounts to the frame.. looked fine. the carrier bearing also didn't look like it was jammed forward. though, the bushing on it would've taken the blow. Uugh, i need someone who knows what they are doing to look at it and tell me what i need to replace. The bearing sounded right but I dont have any money to be throwing at the car.. -Justin

ok.. sooo.... I dont think it was those bushings. I went ahead and just strait-bolted the diff to that mount and now I still have the vibration, but not as "sloppy" if that makes sense. its much more of a stiffer vibration. anyway.. I was curious with the carrier bearing.. is there an actual bearing in there? if i take the shaft and move it in a circle.. maybe 1/4 play in a circle.. is that bad? I was doing a bit of searching around there.. U-joints look fine.. drive shaft looks alright. though, i did see a lot of wrecker yard marks on a lot of things down there :-/ -Justin

Ok, so apparently I did a good one today. I ripped the rear diff out of the bushings on the (name??) mustache bar. Let me explain, This took real skill - I'm actually quite peeved about it because I wasn't screwing around off roading or even hot-rodding it around. I was at one of my betting facilities today, (Softball country, over off of 72ndish and Pecos for those of you in the area) and I was backing up along-side the building and was going to turn at the end and park to look at some emails. Look at my mirrors.. nada. I'm going at about "idle" speeds, nothing fast.. then WHAM!!! I get out expecting to've hit a concrete pole or.. something.. anything. Nothing. ?????? I look down and see the curb of a little parking island that they had wrapped around the building. It went strait through between my tires and was just short enough not to hit anything EXCEPT, the very bottom of the rear Differential. Now, I have a vibration when i speed up and slow down. After some inspection, I believe its due to the rear bushings on the diff that hold it up on the mustache bar (???) My question is, has anyone ever done what I just did? And is there any better way to, or an alternative to replacing those bushings? the stealership wants 100 bucks for the pair. pictures: All the more reason to want to lift it.. since i'm too flippin low to the ground!! edit: part number for the bushings is: 41322ac040 -Justin

this is very true! Ok, how about this. I'm looking for a bit more uumph out of my engine, maybe a little MPG, but I dont have the time/money to drop another engine with a turbo & intercooler into my car. The Electric supercharger seemed appealing because I would be able to "switch" it on when I want the uumph, and then off if i'm just doing some OTR traveling. What I'm looking for is something that I can use to boost what I already have but keep stable enough to not damage anything. -Justin

Well then.. that's a bit of a difference! would a BOV work? it would be funny to hear it sitting there whistling at a stop light lol Could you possibly wire a switch to the throttle that when the throttle is open that it starts the supercharger? there wouldn't be any back pressure to shove down its throat, but it wouldn't sit there and spin and damage anything and/or blow the ducting.. cant have that.. its my DD! I'm looking for a little UUMPH and some MPG while i'm at it! -Justin
