EA81 blower motor location?
crazyman03 replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its there! believe you me, I've got quite acquainted with it recently. Far right corner. Its probably hiding under the bundles of wires. most likely a silver capped looking thing. Now, DONT remove the silver cap itself! there's a black plate that goes around it that has those 3 10mm screws. -Justin -
hmm.. very true. If i'm going to do it once and now, I might as well do it right too.. thanks! -Justin

yea, about the larger surface area. thats what i was thinking. I do want to get higher wattage bulbs but i want to get a bigger battery. cant remember what size i got but its not very big on the amps. that.. and the nissan alternator conversion. i was going to pick one up at the junk yard yesterday but pickings were *very* slim. not many nissans OR 'roo's i only found 1 ea82, and it was a Loyale! i think i found a dl and that was it .. very sad times. -Justin

i did check for wrong rotation but it was going the right direction. suction from the inside blowing outside. i was getting *some* air through the vents but it took forrreeeevvveeerrrr to warm up. for example. a couple weeks ago i drove it down to pueblo which is around 160 miles away. i had a t-shirt, sweater, hoodie AND Carheart jacket on and i was still cold! much happier now! i still have other random gremilin issues but they dont require taking the flippin' dash apart again!. i also picked up a blower regulator at the junk yard, might put that in too and see if it works -Justin

my engine temp is perfect though. the gauge sits 1/8th-1/4 the way up the gauge. -Justin

ya know, i have no idea what type of bulbs are in there right now. i bought it in September and all i had to do was replace the lens assembly. There happens to be 2 more in the door . I wanted to try and find some HID lights but i like what i have now. I wanted to also add that if you were to add (or if i were to...) a thicker piece of metal on the under-side of the hood it might prevent the lights from bobbing much. 'coarse they aren't really doing that much anyway but still.. -Justin

ok, so apparently I /am/ ceanile. I grabbed a *new* blower from the junk yard and put it in, blows great! and now I'm not freezing my arse! (those -15 degree mornings we've had have been killing me!) -Justin

so, my water pump is leaking. my question is - has anyone ever had just the gasket go out? The block has overheated before. Not Past the red, but close. The pump itself works as I'm not over heating at the moment just occasionally leaking from the pump area. I cant buy a pump at the moment but I can buy a gasket. and i'd hate to take the pump out, change the gasket and put it back in when having the pump bad. is there any way to visually see if its bad? -Justin

these baja lights are flippin' awesome imho . there is a *slight* vibration in the light due to bumps in the road and such since the hood is just a layer of sheet metal. other than that they are pretty nice. edit: they are far much brighter than the stock lights. i could *almost* drive with just them on. i wanted to put them on the bumper but decided against it. -Justin

the EJ is not going to fit! (Loyale)
crazyman03 replied to SuperchargedRS's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you do break the clips, you can pick them up at checker auto or autozone. there are like 5 bucks or something.. its been a while -Justin -
Time to pull the dash:~(
crazyman03 replied to backcountrycrui's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, first i can say is - Have. Fun. Pulling the dash with the intentions of putting it back is needless to say.. a P.I.T.A.! Its more-so tedious than anything. In my Opinion of course! I'd check the heater core for any leaks, cloggage and such before just removing it. I didn't get that far but it looked like a pain. -Justin -
Well, i *finally* got to take apart my car to figure out my heating gremilins. I checked the air intake from the outside and found.. nothing clogging it up. i took apart my dash completly (not a fun chore i might add) figured out that all my doors are opening/shutting when they are supposed to. and still found no clogging. the only thing that i was able to find was the driver "vent" was stuck open to the outside. This would explain the cold air that i feel coming through the dash vents when i have everything off. i found that the cable was broken. and since i don't use it all too often i didn't feel bad about permanently closing the outside vent. I'm still not getting much as far as airflow goes. I get +12 at the motor! I'm pretty confident that the blower is working properly. Am i just being senile? -Justin

+1. BUT... i have to agree with Nipper on this one. I've had rocks and crap get in there and screw up the belt. -Justin

i did that because: i did it mainly because i rolled my DD and still needed to get to work. -Justin

Very nice build! Gives me motivation to do my own EJ swap! 'corse that costs' money, a garage and time. But i will do it! Nice Build! -Justin

i was kinda lucky the bulb was out. the 'roo wouldn't have passed emissions if it was on. and too.. i guess the emissions guy didnt look for it either -Justin

Dude, i still cant get over how YELLOW your 'roo is! it looks sweet!

shoot, i dont remember. you could pull one of the others and go to the auto store. I was missing the entire light mount. so i needed to pull one from another spot. -Justin
-
you answered your own question. replace the alternator, and soon before you fry your battery and you'll need another one of those too. voltage regulator is built into the alternators on those 'roos. -Justin

Yea, i only have speeds 3 and 4. Well More 4. I don't mind having it on hi all the time, if i get too hot I'll turn the thermostat down. Just need to get to the point where its making me warm . I was out there tinkering with it a bit ago. Not much I can do at the moment since I'm at work but the airflow doesn't seem like its in "default" mode or that its sending air to all 3 modes... Couldn't see much into the cowel. Seems like much of a project to be doing at work.. :-/ Thanks for input! Least this gives me a bit of a start. -Justin
