  1. if i remember correctly, the block is the same.. just the heads are what set it differently. that and of course the turbo, exhaust, and intake design but physically, it will fit no problem. If i was in your position though, i would do the EJ swap. you are pulling the engine out anyway. -Justin
  2. I imagine I do need one seeing as the passenger side door doesn't effect the driver's door. What kind of actuator will i need to purchase to make this work. has anyone done this to their 'roos? -Justin
  3. Hello all! I have a Valet Remote start system that I'm wanting to put in my '88 GL SPFI 5sp. I have all the necessary wires, relays and such but my question is: do i need a door actuator for the key less entry?? I know i have automatic door locks on all 4 doors (5 if you include the hatch). Does the driver side door not actuate like the other 4? Anyway, I was looking up the wiring and they said I needed an actuator and i was slightly confuzled because of the auto door locks. thanks for the input! -Justin
  4. *peers outside* and i thought we got a lot of snow here! good pics of the dogs. -Justin
  5. well, it doesnt actually do the "switching"; think of it like a air tank. it's pressurized....ish. the actual switching mechanism is the control itself. When you switch from one mode to another it re-route's the vacuum tubes to open and close certain "doors". Physically too i believe. that resonating chamber simply supplies a constant pressure/vacuum so that the control can do that. -Justin
  6. i apologize for the crudity of the picture, its dark out.. but it looks something like this. the white thing in the corner.
  7. hmm, i will have to try that. hopefully soon. Living with the In-laws, and in a HOA area... makes it interesting to get the car worked on. I actually got citation for changing my brakes out on the curb. Pricks. I will try that. thanks! -Justin
  8. i had a similar issue. (still have only 2 speeds on the blower) but there is a vacuum line coming off the engine to a resonating container. Mine is a ea82 wagon, so it is on the passenger side just next to the firewall. you might try looking around there and see if the vacuum line came off. there are 2 on the resonating container, 1-in, 1-out. Just a thought -Justin
  9. there are still fuse able links under the hood, but yea the fuses are under the driver dash, under the nifty cubby. that is interesting too, i thought they had a little plastic cover that the bracket clamps onto.. maybe I'm wrong. I would check the timing as well, i had a similar issue to my '90 loyale, the driver side belt had a few teeth come broken, and it wasn't spinning. Maybe pop the cover off and have a look?
  10. not really a delay in the steering. (although i did notice a slight pull. might need to tweak the alignment a bit) steers just fine. I just checked the struts. (not really sure how to check just one). I rocked the car side-side. and it righted the rocking fairly quickly. -Justin edit: while i was doing that i didn't notice any clicking.
  11. Ok, so here's a interesting question. On my little red wagon (ea82 GL), I've noticed a bit of a "swing" when i steer to the right.. Mostly on the highway. Its kinda weird to describe, when the road bends right, i steer right, and the rear of the car kind've swings with it instead of just going with it. It doesnt do it when i steer left. Any ideas? I did replace the Right (passenger) tie-rod. would it be related? i tried my best to align it. -Justin
  12. So..... as you can tell after 9 or so pages.. Fram=Crap. & almost anything else is better.
  13. well hello there. one thing go make it more reliable is to baby it. IMO These cars can take you anywhere. Just keep the essentials in mind and that's about it. They can take a beating that's for sure. there are people on here that have probably done anything and everything that could possibly be done to a 'roo. if you have a question try the search function, more than likely it has been covered before. (or try Google and put "site:ultimatesubaru.org " before your search and it'll search this site specifically.) If not, try starting a new thread in the older subaru forum -Justin *throwing a wave from Denver*
  14. Went and played a bit... OH! and got a nifty magnet course, when i was done playing, my cv-axle went kaput. so i did did that too.. no pics of that though.. -Justin
  15. i removed it because i needed a bit more up/down/left/right flexibility. maybe it was just the way i disassembled it that made me need to disconnect it. but meh, live and learn. it worked out either way, just should've payed more attention to how i was banging... -Justin
  16. i must say.. i love your garage! i imagine it didn't take a week to put together, but if i had something like that i would be smiling the whole time i was in it. ... nice! -Justin
  17. or pickup 4 hubs from the junkyard and drill. then if/when you want to go back just put the old hubs back in? course if you do something like that you could just do the whole 5lug convert
  18. they do... thats a pretty 'roo too -Justin
  19. hmm.. interesting.. well i didnt say they were perfect! i think they were right for my '90 loyale but i dont remember exactly.
  20. i use www.the12volt.com for most of my ????? installations. I'd say in my experience they are probably 90% right. I'd defiantly use it as a guideline only though. as you dont want to fry your components. use a dmm or a probe light. the12volt is also good for alarm/keyless/remote start another decent site for wiring for alarms and keyless/remote start only is http://www.commandocaralarms.com/wiringsearch.asp -justin
  21. welp, new axle + air tools = happy crazyman! I managed to install my new axle last night. the old one (as I'm sure its not a surprise to many) came apart in 2 pieces. I picked up a 60$ fwd axle from checker auto. I do believe it was a thicker shaft now that i think about it.. my question about that is why would it matter the difference between fwd and 4wd? since the car is full-time "fwd" until you either push the button or lift the range selector. It would have the same "load" probably 90% of the seasonal time; and seriously, how often do you put it into 4wd anyway. I usually don't use it all that much unless it snows and I'm really /stuck/! becides the fact that they can charge you for a different type. anyway. like i said i got the axle out, the tie-rod was a pita. and like a dip, i pounded on it without anything on the top to absorb the force and mushroomed the top. :-/ looks like I'm not going to be driving it until i can find a new one. -Justin
  22. wow, i dont even want to know what one i usually get. i looked up checker online and did see 2 differences in axles. a fwd and a 4wd. why would there be a difference in the 2 if the vehicle is fwd untill you "switch" it in to 4wd. .. interesting.. anyway thanks!
  23. ok, now heres a stupid question. /could/ you use a driver side axle on the passenger side? they look relitively the same length... ea82, 5-speed, gl wagon
  24. so like a lot of 'roos i've owned i'm replacing a cv axle. i did have a question though.. has anyone bought one from a junk yard? are pickings for them any good? i'd buy it new but i dont have ~200 bucks to get it.
