hmm.. guess i must've never noticed it on any of my other ones (i no longer have any except this one). i know it did it with the old alternator.. bit i tossed it off as high voltage low amps issue since the alt. was bad anyway. thanks!

in my 'roo i notice that when i am at idle, and have a blinker on, the voltage guage drops when the light engages. I have /very/ little in the vehicle (not even a radio). what would be causing this? i have a brand new alternator and battery with not even 200 miles on them. what could be causing this? I put the battery to a dmm and it is doing the same on it too. -j

i had a similar issue. i ended up tracing the wires from the fuses to the relay. 'corse, the relay was fine, the blower motor was seized.. i banged it a bit and it works occasionally . -J -
Well anymore i find myself not wheeling as much. Even when i did i used the jeep. But i still keep a small emergency kit with me such as: 25' rope - doubles for tieing stuff down or for towing someone if needed Tool box - Really sucks to be anywhere, know how to fix whats wrong, and not have the tool to do it! Come-Along - for the simple pulls 3 ton floor jack - Jeep sits a bit too high, and i don't like the flimsy bottle jacks Misc Straps, screws Power inverter - currently only have a dinky 300w but works for simple charges. Misc fluids.. 1 or 2 extra oil qts, tranny fluid, tape, etc usually as far as my luck goes i find myself using most if not all of the above for either myself or for someone i know. it /is/ kinda nice to be the go-to guy to pull people out! and friends know i have no problem using the 'ole subie to do it with! -j edit: Oh, and a first-aid kit!

That IS a nice looking rig.

Note to self: If someone takes a Justy to the speedway to race. He probably doesn't have a "stock" setup *Yikes* -J -

You could regularly check the coolant levels. if you keep topping it off eventually, it will be full. . -

Help! :: GL-10 Wagon Electrical Gremlins
crazyman03 replied to slminneman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yea, that was what i was having. when i was idling it was sitting around 11-12 volts. when i revved it sat around 18+. sometimes when i was warmed up it would go back to normal regardless of rpm. sometimes it would be very spastastic. If you are getting voltage higher than even 12 volts its coming from the alternator. the voltage regulator is built-into it. I can almost guarantee you if you replace it, it will work fine. -
Help! :: GL-10 Wagon Electrical Gremlins
crazyman03 replied to slminneman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had that exact same problem on my '88 GL just 2 days ago. Check the actual voltage at your battery (and at the alternator too wouldn't hurt) and see if it is is really spiking. Mine was spiking to 18+ volts before i replaced it. Once done *knock on wood* everything returned to "normal". -
well on my most recent subie (sadly the only Subaru i own now) I yanked out the carpet because it was soaked in motor oil and anti-freeze as well. i also had a exhaust leak a bit towards the back that i didnt want to mess with too much so i sealed it off at the same time. edit: i used grace ice and water shield. Its a decent sound dampener too, might come in handy if i decide to have more than just a boombox sitting next to me. :-/. Not the first car i've done this too. i did it to my '89 gl-10

engine load while switching on heat
crazyman03 replied to crazyman03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it does this on any setting. i would expect it if i pressed the max/ac button but it does this in multi and heat. -
engine load while switching on heat
crazyman03 replied to crazyman03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is it engaging the a/c? why is it doing this? -
so this morning i finally used my heater on this car and i noticed that when i switch on just the heat the engine gets a load. I have a EA82 With A/C. Is it supposed to do this? I've never had a Subie with a working A/C so i wouldnt know.

Finally a subie to lift

I've owned 3 subaru's and have been wanting to lift every one of them. Now I'm on my 4h Subaru and I want to lift it. I don't want to get a suspension lift mainly because i dont want to go through cv-axles. I mainly have one question. How good is a body lift? and How easy is it neccessarly to make and install? Also, if i do a body lift do i still need to do an alignment adjustment? ok thats more than 1 question :-P is it neccessarly as easy as bolting in spacers like here: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=102498&highlight=lift I'm on a rather /tight/ budget but, i have access to a welder and some steel. I was thinking 2 - 3". Oh By the way I'm working on a '88 GL, EA82 Wagon.
-
I too have removed a subie engine (ea82) with the help of someone else. Not exactly "Light" but was able to lift it high enough to clear the radiator and put into a wagon.

I'm rocking a Cobra 29LTD Classic with a simple 3' fiberglass coil antenna. I particularly like this cobra because it has a built-in swr meter to tune, instead of buying an external one.
-
if they did a lift and reinforced the members on the bottom of the car it would be a pretty sweet off-roader
-
all i can say is..... WOW!
-
yea i was thinking the same thing. unfortuneatly i cant replace it untill friday. I'll probably end up driving my jeep just so that i dont do any further electrical damage. my heater blower already stopped working. i think might be related.
-
I have an '88 GL EA82. and occasionally the voltage (from the alternator) peaks at 18-19 volts. I have a bit of time, is there anyway to fix the voltage regulator on it? Aside from replacing it.

1988 GL rear locking up
crazyman03 replied to crazyman03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i realize this... but when i go to test drive a car before i buy it i want to make sure the 4wd works. Now i realize that running a 4wd on pavement is a not-so-good thing to do.. but the vehicle should go forward and reverse and turn and all that happy stuff. in my case.. it locked up as soon as i put it into 4wd. i couldn't go anywhere.. even though you arent supposed to use it on dry pavement... i'm pretty sure it should still work.
