The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread

well.. there's a couple things you can do. to fix the (thought) of the alarm not starting the car, pop the knee panel from under the steering wheel and find your ignition harness. on a '97 Impreza its probably 4 *thick* gauged connector with (and i'm only saying the colors for reference, actual colors could be different) Black/Yellow, Blue/Red, Red/Yellow and a Red wire - again, wires will be thick in gauge.. probably a 8 or 10 gauge. Look at the lower part of the wires (going down towards the brake not up towards the key) and see if there are any "Wire Taps" or cut/Soldered connections. If there is a "immobilizer" installed, you'll likely find a break in the "Blue/Red" wire. If you do find a break in the wire diverting it to the alarm box, simply remove the diversion and essentially reconnect the "Blue/Red" wires directly back to each other again. (again only mentioning the colors as a reference, it should be right but who knows right?) My Reference: Black/Yellow - Constant +12 volt to key Blue/Red - Starter Position, This will see the above constant +12v when key is in that position Red - Ignition Position, This will see the above constant +12v when key is in that position Red/Yellow - Accessory position, This will see the above constant +12v when key is in that position if you do decide to "yank" the alarm out, you *could* unplug the harness from the alarm module and secure the wires under the dash, it wont re-arm if there isn't an alarm module right? You will AT LEAST have to check on the crank wire. By default, IF there is an immobilizer the system will have the crank wire disabled to prevent someone hotwiring the car after shutting up the alarm ;-) Now, if its a "Subaru" immobilizer, if its after market, it should have the same concept.. crank wire and such. just pop your head under there and see first ;-) -Justin

I know right?! My daughter hops in there and buckles up I had to take a picture! I do know what I'm doing. I have installed (professionally) a wide range of alarms into new and old school soobies. That, and I dont just go by the schematic of what the wire does - I probe and test it too :-) Thanks for the comments!

You mean when you turn the signal on, turn the wheel it popps/turns off? check the housing behind the steering wheel itself. make sure you also put all the screws back in the column, in particular the ones closest to the signal lever. I had a similar problem with my old GL.. fixed it up perfect after putting a screw back in. -Justin

Thought I should start a thread all about my ride - a 1995 Impreza LX EJ22, AWD, Automatic. I picked up this little beauty last year June/Julyish from a buddy of mine that, at the time wanted me to take the stereo out of it and put it in her husbands car. I asked what the reasoning was and she mentioned she was going to junk the Impreza. Its only issues were a blown back window due to some random passerby a-hole with a pellet gun, and a loud exhaust. I told her, heck, I'll give you junk rate for the car (I called around and found the average "tow away" price was about 350), and there I had it.. a new Impreza. I drove around with the back glass like that for a while and after further examination, the noisy exhaust was simply that the manifold was *not* attached on the d/s to the heads! one 10$ gasket later, VOILA! no more exhaust noise! Since I bought it I've: replaced the back hatch (havent painted it yet) I lifted it 3ish inches.. nothing with tires just yet A 2.25" exhaust from the cat-back with a muffler-delete. High-flow air filter (hot-air intake at the moment), CB with 125w linear and a Prediator 20k antenna up top,and a stereo/sub install..... to come within the next few days (quite literally) Viper 5701 Security/Remote start/1-mile range 2way remote (I got a killer deal) 8k HID's (got a decent deal on amazon) Performing Timing belt maintance (I fix copiers for a living and drive a LOT, almost 2500 miles this year already) P/S-Front CV Axle (thanks to ShawnW!) New struts, I'm debating on getting forester struts or replacing the Impreza struts i already have and keep my spacers.. cue the free-flow of pictures! Picture when i first got it.. Now as it sits: Preditor 20k Lifted: -Justin

This is the cheapest i can find online -Justin

So my wife and I are looking for another car and I came across another '00 Grand Cherokee (up in steamboat, roughly 3 hours away) with ~ 198k. Now, On the listing it says it has been ran with low oil and that it makes a noise from under the hood. its still drive-able but makes noise. All things that my old Jeep with about the same miles did; even the low oil and noise. Turns out it was just the Rod bearings that needed replaced. My question is: would it be worth the trip up there to even look at it and potentially buy it? They are selling it for a killer 1300 bucks what all else *could* it need. I believe its the 4.7 V8, I did have some issues with sensors at around 220k but everything else was pretty solid. and the Rod bearings were only 80 bucks 0.0 over or even 0.25 over. I'm pretty confident it'll work but was just curious what anyone else would say? ad: http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/3558913603.html -Justin

Very impressive.. I would love to learn more for my automatic impreza. Can you set it for a automatic/or paddle shifting? or does it remove the "automatic" part? -Justin
