  1. How was Carlisle ? Caffeine and carbs was cancelled up here. No Show weekend. LOL Got some inspiration and devoted a small window of time I had on my '78. Needed a tire replaced and got a new spare as well. They let me in the bay even had to get involved and assist ,etc. So while the wheels were off I of course found myself iritated at the rust and sand/mud left from the late fall and winter. Hadn't given it the real bath it deserved. This caused me to give each corner a good cleanout and brass wire brush what I could. Cheesy paint for the old steel wheels - quick hack job that I blame on the paint - mostly Quick blast of gloss black on some of the suspension , supprts ,etc. underside. Just real basic attention but it felt good for me to have my eyes all over the car and start making a plan for the future. Hope you guys found some time and inspiration too. Cheers!
  2. My wagon needs them too. Aren't these also going into the early 80's - gen II ?? Or no ?I had my wagon off the ground for some tire/wheel work and they're seperating. I'll post the pic tomorrow. But , yes , where do we get them? Can we send a mustache bar out to someone who sends it back with urethane?
  3. I'm working until 6 today. Making what I'd be tossing to the hotel and gas station if I'd gone. LOL Somebody post pics of the creampuffs and oddities. And that doesn't mean pics of Matt , ok !!??!!!
  4. You can make points backfire real easy. Gotta love that at times.
  5. And check the "Wish List" thread in Historic. Print it out and have it with you. That's what it's intended for. Quick thoughts for our cars: Nice set of 14" alloys , red Impreza hood and passénger side fender. I'll add more but I'm off to sleep .....
  6. Can I email a list? When would you be arriving in Brooklyn? I'm about 40 min. from the Throggs Neck Bridge. Any late 70's let me know ASAP. Are you using a box truck or trailer ?
  7. 2wd or 4wd? If 2wd does it need to be manual shift or automatic ? There's rebuilt on eBay.
  8. Apologies to those who do attend , for the lack of representation these days. I think we topped off around 7-5 years back. Still fun and I hope to still have an outside chance of going. Someday we'll get another good group together and probably even get the 25 needed for the "club status tent". If we could get the CT group alone that'd be at the very least 6 guys with something from the 80's and earlier. And that's just the guys that are reasonably active with vintage Subarus. Get the Legacy/Impreza/WRX generation involved and it could get overwhelming. So , that said , I don't expect to go this year but there does exist that outside chance. Enjoy!!
  9. Got a few replies. I'll go through the messages and emails and try to see who was first.
  10. Engine code in casting should be there no matter which country of origin. Sounds like a JDM. They were always a couple years ahead of the US market back then with advancements. Let us know what that casting tag looks like ,please. Curious if there's a line under the EA71 or something else different. For kicks , could you see if you can locate the engine serial number? Might help others with recognizing a JDM in the future. Probably someone else here has some early JDM experience but not me. I'd be very curious to see what we "could have had". Like the twin carbs , etc. etc. .... 4WD 1970's sedans .....all in Japan and a few other places. Not here. Still seems funny to have points ignition. Is there a computer in there? I can't recall points being mixed with a brain before. Maybe an early 80's STD model with a 1600.....but not many or any others I can recall.
  11. Not too likely but if so it'd be Saturday with an outside chance of a Friday night campover. Sunday I'd like to be back in CT.
  12. These should both be from the last batch made. One of the many surprises from going through storage the other day. $70 shipped to USA , figure around $85 around the globe. But let's see where you are first and I'll do my best to save shipping $$$ Send a private message or email me at moosens at yahoo dot kom. Sometimes takes me a little to reply , don't sweat .
  13. I managed to swap an accelerator pump boot from a late model carb that had been sitting at my storage for some reason ..... the last gen of carbs for US Subies. Anyhow the boot was dried and hard but functional and better than the new one I just installed in the late fall of last year. Check your kits and verify your "new" boot isn't weak and flimsy and after install check it frequently for wear. I'd also like to remind folks to check the pivot of that accelrator pump lever. The lock washer goes to the carb side and the rind washer to the outside. Careful of your spring tail which rests a little too close to the boot for comfort. If the lever has play it sure looks like the tail of the spring will rip the boot. I could be wrong but its so close its worth consideration. Took me just a few minutes really. Was a little sloppy and just went at it allowing gas from the float chamber to slop a little but all in all no big worries and I let the excess fuel evaporate before cranking over. Also had the battery ground off. I'd say that's a MUST too for safety. The cork gasket got soaked but I felt comfy snugging it back down. I never fully removed the float chamber cover but had all screws out and was able to lift the driver's side of the chamber (US) enough to get the pump out. Made a huge difference in performance. I only put on a few miles after that but will report more if anything comes up. Hope this helps someone. 1978 4WD Wagon - the Hitachi DCP-306 To do this job without gas in your face disconnect your fuel pump and let the carb stall itself out. Or at least watch the level thru the glass and shut it down as it sinks.
  14. http://twinfalls.craigslist.org/pts/3789200125.html Belts too !!! So it says. Enjoy !!!
  15. If that's the case you have no choice bot to remove the float chamber top and adjust the float. Don't sweat it. Breathe , take your time , and get it right. Of course you want to be careful bending the tab for adjustment .... you know that but we'll state it here for the next guy. Me , I just did a "soft" rebuild using a complete kit but just not soaking it like I wish I could have. I rushed trying to just get the car ready for winter - which I basically succeded at - but I didn't take the time to go thru it after like a pro would. And now my accelerator pump boot is mashed and wizzing so I'm right next to you in the carb problem line.
  16. Looks like you'll be with a real life USMB staff member. How much more hardcore does it get ??? Yeah , looks like maybe they scratched off the Subaru people from their mailing list. LOL
  17. Float valve ? You check the sight glass when it drops off?
  18. I didn't see anything in the mail this year. Nor did I get any invite online. Anybody else who'd gone in the fast couple of years? I've got to think we're past the deadline now. LOL
  19. Brake , not break. eBay , plenty of brake parts there. More than one seller of older Subaru parts can be found here. "dannybreadman" on eBay is "drivesubies" here on USMB Scooter0000 is another one. There's a few folks currently with NOS Subaru parts , and plenty of folks with aftermarket and rebuilt parts.
  20. When you change the fuel filters is there crap inside them? I have a locking gas cap like we had in the 70's - early 80's when people would swipe gas regularly. That'll give you peace of mind from hater-folk.
  21. Resurecting an old joke ...... hahaha Not likely a good year but you never know. If my son bothers me enough to go camping in the Barrens ,etc......maybe I'll be there this year.
  22. Right , thanks Ben. The metal fatigue issue ...... grrrrr. But only coming off the highway ....hmmmm
  23. Take the air cleaner housing off and inspect the tiny rubber boot on the accelerator pump which sits atop your carburetor. Right up front. Has a lever attached with a pin retainer. Could be something else but that is a current problem for a couple of us with old carbs.
  24. eBay - ten years later. Or contact "drivesubies" here. He has some new old stock for sale. Can't go wrong with him. Danny in TN.
  25. Quick search shows plenty of rebuilders and carbs out there. Doing your carb kit isn't so hard. But doing it so it performs close to 100% means soaking , cleaning , using compressed air , following directions , etc. You can do it right if you're set up with a small tub and parts cleaner. I'm hoping to find those jets new too.
