Quick search shows plenty of rebuilders and carbs out there. Doing your carb kit isn't so hard. But doing it so it performs close to 100% means soaking , cleaning , using compressed air , following directions , etc. You can do it right if you're set up with a small tub and parts cleaner. I'm hoping to find those jets new too.

Thanks ! I might send one out to National now. I'll search when the time comes but if you can post a link that might make a few people happy. The glass sight needs to be glued in , doesn't it? I don't recall a gasket there or easy way to remove it - can't picture any retainer. Btw I just re-kitted mine last year and the boot on the accelerator pump is shot already. The rubber looked and felt great but you know it's a 30'year old kit , or close to that. Ticked me off but that life with an old car.

Because I don't have time to built one ...... so I drive a 2.2 for daily and a 70's for true vintage pleasures.

I want to swap a 5 speed into a 1979 DL Automatic

Maybe this needs a "sticky". Lol Cheers!! -
New Canaan CT downtown by the train station. Millions upon millions worth of cars , non judged , and simply the best show of it's kind. There is nothing "official" so just show up. If you aren't driving something truly fancy just park in a side lot or if you're late you're going to be walking a block or so you won't even have to worry about being embarrassed by the big buck rides. People love my 78 wagon as rough as it is. But I don't even attempt to park in the main run on the street. Something that if you're reasonably close to is worth the drive. They've had a Bugati Veyron there , etc .... Once had a Ferrarri transporter there with the entire new line and a few racers too. That day it is said there were 65-75 Ferrarris depending who you ask. Look for my wagon in one of the side lots. I usually get there early - 7:45am or so , and try to park it right up front for high visibility. It's really fun to watch people look over there high end vehicles and still get a kick out of an old Japanese car. Maybe check for my old posts or google it. Cheers!!!

They are set up diagonally so you should always have at least one functional front brake.

No sweat. The best favor I can ask is that maybe you just type less. Lol Seriously , I work the graveyard and most times I'm on here I'm sleep deprived and I'm easily , or more easily annoyed by little things. I also skip most posts unless I see it pertains to good old me or something I'm fairly certain I can add to in a positive way whether it be information or class clown humor. Cheers! And please , no sweat on my end. Take care of Brian some and that's also a favor to me. Sorry about the inbox. And about those micro brews .... Been a beautiful world since the late 80's early 90's as I can walk into many stores and hook up with some great brews. I'm not a big drinker but probably seems like one since I mention it here so much. Might be a little pretentious but I do use the stuff as a sleep aid pretty much exclusively. And I stick with staples like Guinness for winter, Harpoon IPA for summer, and now I am using Bass IPA as I lost my taste for regular Bass Ale which would be my seasons transition beer. Ok All you need to know and then some ...... Lol Cheers!!!

LOL Brian , I just came across some note I had in my drawer with the guy's name and stuff.....I think it was 2009 infact !! .... do as you need to , you know the deal. I'm not going to cry about any of that stuff. Light money spent for a good cause. Maybe the new guy who gets it will buy my a beer someday when I'm out there ....but please PUT THE STUFF TO USE !!! LOL Pat - I've taped my fingers (mouth) a lot these past few years. I'm a well founded owner but don't claim to be much of the best at any repairs or diagnostics - but I'll give what info I can. Thanks for the pleasant thoughts. I had them chop the post count to hopefully be an example at the time. So , let us know what you do and what the internals look like from this puppy. Take my block from Brian and take care of him for being the good guy to take the stuff in and retain it. You don't have to buy me a beer , but one day you can sell me your ride. LOL Enjoy !!

There were different kits. Subaru3 - Todd can better identify which ones you can expect up to which build date ,etc. Mine is the exact same as the one shown here. A Sanden 507 pumping through the same duct work and controlled by the same switch ,etc. - Same hose clamps too !! LOL We actually had three , well , two and a half +/- , kits new in the box. Danny-drivesubies got one. WagonsOnly has another and I think he also got the "half kit" which was mostly there but obviously opened up. I think they were marked Panasonic on the box. So I personally don't have a new kit. I see Earl still trying to sell a complete used set up but I think that's the short York compressor. Danny might have some more in his new stock but may not know of any yet because he has so much stuff to get to. Let's hope for that. I'll check back soon. Limited time now.

Carlisle Import Meet 2013
moosens replied to nipper's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Spring Bump !! Could be in the cards. Could be driving something back from somewhere. Could be driving the same bucket of bolts. Could be you're going too. -
These are all add ons. Nothing here is factory. We all got hose clamps .etc ......it was the 70's. I've seen a new unit or two lately. The SD-508 is really close in size and looks to have the fitting in the exact same place. I have the same set up and am always thinking I'm going to get this system up and running again someday. But I actually use the car more in the winter.

Nice to see you taking this well. To me , and probably at least a handful more , you're better off just yanking the engine and swapping in the one you're looking for. OK you knew that , but just to offer a verifying opinion.....time equals $. First , you don't mention which year it is. There are 2 types of EA71's out there and we want to do this right the first time, Check that your intake and air passage tubes are the same to the unit you'll be buying. Hopefully you can score a whole unit with intake and all inplace. "tailgatewagon" - Brian , has some 1600 stuff of mine/ours that you might be able to use. He's in Bozeman - not sure if that helps. Otherwise there has to be one fairly close to you. You couldn't be in a better area for these cars. Now what to do about images of Liberace in a sparkly bass boat .....arrrrrrggggghhh!

Dont laugh... anyone ship a canopy?
moosens replied to BratRod's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Daytrip. One will show up within a few hundred miles. Good luck. And expect to need a seal (gasket). Most can't find the key for the lock too. ;( but you can score a core key and new core I've heard. -
Dont laugh... anyone ship a canopy?
moosens replied to BratRod's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes , I crated and shipped a canopy. Went from Milford CT to Colorado for a young lady , paid for by the old man. The shipping was like $540 or so !! But they just couldn't find one local and it was important enough. I spent too much time on it but made it happen. I was in an industrial park so my neighbors loaded it onto the freight truck and it was there puppy to deal with. All went well , I packed it well. They even sent me a pic of the gal with her prize rig. Good luck ! -
I'm not going to tackle those questions but I will say this about storage. IF you simply do not have indoor storage like myself , just make SURE you do NOT park it over dirt or even gravel etc. Please DO make sure you park it over pavement where water sheds and runs and there's much less condensation. Keep the exhaust fairly dry too by running it and not letting it sit more than a couple of days without running it.

New 2013 Forester Limited Owner in NJ
moosens replied to jdfoz's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Welcome to the "family". It's contageous for sure. I'd like to suggest you take it down to the Pine Barrens and do a little trail riding. You can gently go through the trails and not beat the crap out of it yet truely enjoy the permissions granted by a Subaru that most others won't handle. It's just off road exercise. You'll get a feel for what your vehicle can do if needed. Don't keep it too clean ! LOL We'll be rocking the Barrens sometime soon. If you see a post here and would like to join up you can always leave your 'rester in the lot and take a passenger seat with one of us so you can see the conditions. Take a look at my '78 and maybe see your 'rester's future. Enjoy !! -
Doug those are somewhat rare heads in that they are 1400 but they are "dry sleeve" engines. They were made for the automatics and 4WD cars and sold here in the USA until '76 or '77. Pretty much 1975-77 model years. chickaskia - does your 1400 have two exhaust ports at the bottom of the heads or does it have 4 ports from the ends of the heads? Big difference and one does not work with the other. also chick. you can find all you need. We have good used and somewhere I have at least one new 1400 head - old style four port - and guys like ctsuba have more - engines , heads , etc ......

The cowl itself is not the problem but under the cowl. Take it out and if you don't mind take the dashboard out too. From inside you can usually see some daylight where the pinholes are. Ususally on the passenger side but sounds like maybe you've got both sides because water isn't going to jump over the tranny hump. PRP may also have a windshield gasket in stock should you need one. Heater cores are the same as a Dodge Colt , so when you search try both. Also get the spigot or cock as its called. That opens and closes when you change the temp from blue (cool) to red (heat) with the slider lever on the panel. REally smart to just take the dash out and go through the whole deal. Leaks from the top , windshield gasket , heater core and spigot , clean the ducts out and I'm pretty sure you're going to find some nesting materials in there too. It's really not a big deal although so many people don't want to get involved with it all. Expose it all and think like water. Follow along from the outside where you can see where water will work its way in. Especially if there was a build up of pine needles , dirt , leaves ,etc.... Get any of that crap out and look close where it was. I'll bet lunch there'll be pinholes there if the owner never thought to get in and clean it out properly. Enjoy !!!

Shop with "dannybreadman" on eBay first. He's here as "drivesubies". If he comes up short on anything there's currently a couple other sellers with new old stock for your car. After that there's a wealth of used parts from folks like myself , Subaru3 , Subafreak , ctsuba , and more ..... You can do better and get Subaru parts not Vera , etc......crap. I'm thinking you're going to enjoy the whole process. You're lucky that there's still parts out there and we're all fairly reasonable on prices. One guy on eBay recently has some NOS and I think he's here too , but he apparently hasn't researched much and is asking a bit much on his items. That's why you should shop with Danny first. Enjoy !!!

One of these years I'm going to hit your area up there around the pan handle. I'm fascinated by that magical land east of the cascades rolling into western MT. Have a great time. Cheers !!

Gen 1 Wagon Heater Issues...
moosens replied to sjschlag's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yeah, the white plastic lever whatever you want to call it. That's my guess. The flapper door is not closing to redirect the heat. Toes warm is a great sign. And chances are there's a mouse nest in there if the vehicle sat around more than normal. Might want to install a flush adapter on the heater return hose then back flush it. Check your heater core for leaks or bad corrosion (about to leak). Those are the same as a Dodge Colt so when your search yields zip for Subaru 72-79 cars you can try the Mopar way of life. -

Good deal !! You're ready for a winter in New England. Seriously , you're in AZ , what you're doing looks fine to me. Of course you could be going all out. But we both know its not worth it.
