Older Generation Becoming Historic?
moosens replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
After 1980 it's just another Subaru. You can look at is as all before a certain cut off are historic , i.e. the 20 year or 25 year criteria many states here have. But to those of us involved for more that 35 years the historic tag seems more well placed on the cars that got Subaru going here in the US. Once the 80's came around SOA got rather viscious to its mom and pop dealers and the volume increased dramatcally. Then began the end of the "good old days" to many of us. Might be able to talk me into EA81's , but no way EA82's and later.- 70 replies

Yeah , more than likely even an authentic "old lady" low mileage Loyale up here is going to be spotty underside. Pay the $900 - or so for shipping and get one from eastern WA , northern ID , or western MT and it'll be plenty worth using. There's some buy/sell/trade paper/internet site I can't remember but its great for finding cars to bring back east because you'll be dealing with private owners. We've gotten a few among us here in CT and around NE. Every once in a while there's that exception to the rule. Notice my '78 wagon - always right here local to me. Properly rustproofed with Zeibart. I got lucky ! Beware Rusty Jones of the 80's and early 90's. Good luck. Enjoy the board. Still locals with parts and parts cars for you - "ctsuba" is THE MAN !! He's in eastern CT.

Yeah , time to dump stuff off !! Earl , I'll get them to you , just no time at all lately. My storage is packed. I need a whole day to get it sorted out. But your seats aren't buried away. Time and big boxes , that's all I need.

Well , uhh , guess you're offering. Damn distance .... I've got an offer from my bro. up in Naugy , about a half hour drive. So far he's in the lead , but I sure do appreciate your offering and you never know , you might be hearing from me on this anyways. If you've got some space I could grab a couple of weekends with that might be something to consider. I'd do things like swap the doors , or maybe just comfortably finish the engine and tranny swap without major stress. Camping in the back a possiblility? Is that where we're talking? Could do a nice long Saturday and Sunday a few extras. That'd assure a completed job. Plus having THE MAN (that's you) there ... but I would expect you have your own buggy to wrench , so space alone would get you reduced favors due my way . Talk to you soon So what's everbody expecting from this adventure when I do finally crack it open? Pretty sure I want to totally investigate and salvage whatever I can being this is the original engine and still under 100k. Damn ! Kills me to say that. :-\

Waited too long. Hammered it out in third gear somewhat forgetting about fourth. Must have been going at least 80mph in third. Noises began , looked down , doh ! , shifted to fourth but too late. No tacho - although I have one ready to install with dash , etc. Engine locked , luckily after I put the clutch in and coasted off to the side. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have happened if I'd not been putting off the adjustment for so (too) long. FYI - there was just one of the old valve adjust tools for mighty cheap on eBay. I've got two , but they did me NO GOOD SITTING IN MY TOOLBOX !! Crate ATK rebuild and 48K tranny going in. Anybody who wants to help with a place for me to work or as helping hands for wherever I end up doing the job , let me kow. Thanks! Car sits in Bridgeport - have AAA Plus so I can tow it up to 100 miles free - I have an engine crane and tools , all that's needed to do the job and can pack it all into my Legacy wagon. Sure would like this car back on the road before December.

79 DL Driver window Question???
moosens replied to LoveTheeSubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Might have one here , I'll check but not anytime too soon. I've got a long list of parts for people to pull out and no time to do it. ctsuba might have one but same story. Brat glass does not work for your car. -

2 port is non sleeved , 4 port is the one we don't want. They put the 2 port into the last Gen I Stage I 4WD wagons and as I know it they also put them in 1976 automatics . Like I said , been a while since I went through that stuff. Maybe Danny took it and it ended up there with you. -

New Hours , as if they didn't blow already. The Laws aren't bad , it's the DMV itself that sucks. We're pretty lucky with no inspections and emissions gone after vehicle is 20 years old. Makes my life better. I'll catch up with you sooner or later. Let me know if you ever do a cruise down this way. -
Locals are welcome to meet up at the Hi Ho Hotel/Motel whatever - right off the Merrit Parkway Exit 44 - at 7:15 - 7:30 Sunday morning. I'll be meeting some Lotus guys and maybe a few others. By about 7:45 they're on their way down the Merrit to New Canaan to Zumbach's. All this stuff is FREE - they even serve breakfast sandwiches. You pay only if you go to the Concours. That's $20 but as mentioned you get a reduced price if you attend the C & C meet. As I know it you'll get $5 off and VIP parking.

WESTPORT, CT: The Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance is pleased to welcome Cadillac as a Premier Automotive Sponsor for its eighth annual Concours held September 17 and 18, 2011, at the Fairfield County Hunt Club, Westport, Conn Sunday is the day to be there!! Saturday you go help the world wide cleanup effort ,got t? Attention locals !! Caffeine and Carburetors is a really cool meet and drive that my friend attends regularly. Going to be my first one , finally , but folks meet in New Canaan and hang out and show a little there , then cruise - often at brisk speeds - but this time they'll be driving to the Concours and all people from the C & C meet get reduced price tickets to the big show and VIP parking , so you might want to get up early and get into this meet up firstly. Otherwise I hear they have off site parking and busses shuttling to and from. C & C - Sep 18 Caffeine & Carburetors @ Zumbachs All Day Event Zumbachs Gourmet Coffee 77 Pine Street New Canaan, CT Schedule 8:00 to 8:30 am: Arrive and sign-in 8:30 to 9:00 am: “Breakfast and Exhaust” 9:30 am: “Ride & Fun” Councours feature: Chrysler powered Hemi's I'll be hiding in the back somewhere with my '78 4WD wagon at the C & C meet. And parking the car out of sight at the Concours. If this were the days of film I'd say bring many rolls. Personally I intend on doing everything early and getting out of there around 1PM.

Hang in there. Keep that body going and we'll get you hooked up cheap for a new block , I'm sure. What's your desire again? 1400 2 port? 1600? I've got an EA71 block an ultra light flier guy traded me that was all rebuilt , he said , and its not too hard for me to dig out when I can finally get to storage. There's other folks with 1400 and 1600 engine's etc..... -

Was this one of Danny's (drivesubies) engines? Yes , I know its Frankenstein'd 4 port heads, 2 port block, etc ... Just curious where the block and heads came from. Good luck. -
Nah , leave it. We'll have fun , you'll see. ...and welcome aboard!

Wow , love these threads Opinion here! Drive it as is and save money for a real toy you're talking about. You have a good , decent , fun ,and somewhat interesting car to enjoy that if you just leave it alone will take care of your NEEDS. Forget about WANTS from an aging Subaru unless you have lots of money to waste. Enjoy having that pretty cool old car next to nobody else has. And enjoy its simple efficiency. Cheers! Sincerely , the anti-know-it-all -
Don't forget the alarm system. Half of VT will be following you home, and expect notes on the windshield when you come out of stores ,etc.
