way to move forward ! Any contact with "drivesubies" over this? He's in the process of doing the same car. ...and how's your rear windshield gasket? I may have a good used one here that showed up. I do have a guy who's been asking me about this for several months now. He's in ID restoring the same car. -
Tease of teases !! Peek is the optimal word. Very cool !!!

Gotta post some pics of your builds! Never worked on any but my own. When that Superlight came out that YELLOW oh so sweet. Wanted one bad back then. Yeah, I thought by now I'd have seen a Subaru powered GL or build bike. I guess there's probably one or two out there but I have yet to see one. Just talked to a 'Wing guy tonight at my storage unit. His is an '06 which I guess is an 1800. Now they look like scooters on steroids. Good luck with the 1100. -
Storage unit on Rowe Ave. in Milford CT just off exit 35 of I-95 , super easy to get to and leave from. (U-Store-It) Today , tomorrow , and Tuesday. Send PM or email moosens - yahoo ... include a number and time best to call. I'll send mine if you don't already have it. Building racks of wood , good to have a 2nd guy around - hold the other end of this ,etc ... cutters welcome but I am completly able and have all tools. Guy to run for supplies with truck would be the BEST but any help , even running for lunch ,etc. would be helpful. Time to scramble !!

 you guys ain't got nuttin on the Professor. 1.5 million -that's right. Every time these threads pop up I (now) wait a little then swing the hammer. Yes, I've met the guy several times and I'm pretty sure one day he's going to call me out of the blue and ask me to take it. He's taught in such places as U of Mich. , Fla. , and more always commuting on the weekends. He'd get home and go right under the car and yank the oil drain plug. Last time I was at his house he wanted a few hundred for it and to me it wasn't worth my time since I've kind of given up on the 80's cars. Ciao! -
also an engineering foray for the next generation. Mark ,sounds good and thanks.
-
Mark, please save it. If you don't have room let me know and maybe I'll go nuts and cover shipping. "ctsuba" has one left , I think. He told me that he once read that a scientist of some sort once declared that the 1300 horiz. opp. engine was the best for maximizing fuel efficiency. It's the EA63 before it was punched out to make it 1400 so opinon is that the material the took out made the walls too thin etc. which resulted in the 1400 EA63 becoming notorious for the cylinders slopping around and tearing up headgaskets and head surfaces.

Q's about 12 spoke alloys 4 hole 13"
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bump for any more opinions. I did get a couple of wheels "done" although its damn addictive once you see the potential of just how good you COULD make them. So I've got flat black in the recesses for now. I'll get some pics when I can. I currently don't have any photochop deal on my computer. Would be cool to see what a white or red does in certain configs. Any opinions on if these were painted entirely black? Maybe reverse negative sort of thing with black overall and aluminumn recesses? Gotta dig out my photosuite. Meanwhile if someone has time it'd be much appreciated if you could tryout some ideas. -
Old school Japanese car show in Yonkers, NY
moosens replied to Mike Kamm's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
yeah , my city ... and NO I didn't make that one either. Also found out about it too late. We did have a nice classic car show in downtown B'port and I think the Japanese one was maybe the same day , elsewhere ... I think at Captains Cove Seaport , at least I do remember attending an "old rice" show there a couple years ago. We were ready to go to a Japanese motorcycle show in Mass. a couple weeks ago too , but we backed out at the last minute. I'm sorry I ever got rid of my Bridgestone 175 DT. Would love to have a small collection of vintage Hondas and Yamahas ... and a Bridgestone or two. Mike , thanks for keeping us posted - well ,not so much this time , but please keep 'em coming. I swear if we get a truely cold winter I really want to get to the Ice Races ... which freaks out my wife something terrible. -

oh well , maybe next year. rice ....... and beans ? -
Not worth the labor charge to replace those unibody supports and firewall , floor , rockers , wheel aprons ..... Many of us here on the right coast bucked and whined but finally broke down and paid for shippnig for a car from the west. Worth it! We got lucky here and found one ('78) that was Zeibart rustproofed properly - meaning it didn't hold water - and another from the west that a previous owner brought east. That's my '87 turbo wagon , currently offered along with my '78 or my '92 Legacy if you're interested. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=115632 Here's my gallery: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/album.php?albumid=11 Sorry , I know you want to hear that you can fix it but unless its TRUELY minimal .... its terminal. :-\ We've logged hundreds of thousands of miles on those GL-DL/Loyales and have had trailing arms rot to the point of the wheel folding , and rear struts pop thru the top mount area of the wheel arch , on top of catching road spray and dirt in the holes of the rear corners , fender tails disappearing , bumpers sagging on one side , the list goes on..

moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From a Subaru GL wagon , something like an '89 ...had D/R 5spd. The guy at work I know has a flatbed and he's been bringing cars on the back of his rig to work. Gets out at 6AM and hits the yard ,makes his $$$ ... so here he is the other night with this rotted to death (underside) GL D/R wagon - well those wheels caught my eye. Wish I took the Before picture. -

moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, I hear ya , but I've got so many of these stinkin alloys in 13" My though was , I guess , to be a hotshot mo fo with my bad alloys in the corrosive spew and knowing I've got an even sweeter set with summer tires. Big ego inflator Ya know , when I got them they looked like crap from road salt, etc. but I could see they were not abused at all. Now that they're cleaning up so well I'm feeling a bit guilty ... but .... So I guess you don't want to hear that they'll be going on my mighty mighty non-EastCoast-like SUPER solid and almost rustfree '87 Turbo wagon which at this point is super rare in these parts. Plan is to enjoy what 4WD I can get while not using the '78 another winter , and plan on numerous full service car washes from November to April. What do you guys think about bright red in the recesses? Maybe red in the large holes and white in the small square holes??? -
Scored a set of these ,cleaned 'em up ,painting the black recesses FLAT black, Q #1 - would you have gone for gloss black? I honestly grabbed the flat because it was there and I didn't look thinking it was gloss. Have you seem many of these? - I know I haven't. Know of any centercaps for these? I'll get the size but they look to be fairly common - around 2 1/4 inches maybe 2 3/8" Should I bother going for a clear coat if they're only going to be for winter? Paid $50 for the set. Had to work my drill with sanding disks (for a couple small gouges) and grinding/scrub pads for a good 2+ hours total....which is crazy since I really don't have this kind of time to screw with winter wheels .... obsessions .... Kind of just going at it and not really being too fussy. I'll get some pics soon. Anyone who does have centercap in any working condition I'd buy some. I'm going to take well used caps and dress them up.
