  1. OK,you do that. Come on kid, check the end of my post and get over it. This is not the "I can save the day by getting someone to overwork, overpay, and still fall short of their goal" thread.
  2. Well,as you can see my friend, YOU don't know Steve like we do. Sometimes you CAN go on a messageboard and appear to be just another opinion. But when you've spent even the small amountof time I have gotten to spend with Steve you get to understand what they've come to expect from their elder Subaru. Some of you folks are willing to spend much more time and sometimes money than an average East Coast Subaru owner. Some of you are ABOVE average. But that's your gig if you want to whip out torches and heavy machinery to fool around. But to most folks down here that's all you're doing is fooling around. Unibody -smashola - move on. The Bic lighters of automobiles. Use it and throw it away. There's plenty more coming. That's right,Rob. It IS HIS car to do what he needs to. But ... Opinions from folks thousands of miles away can be a bit unrealistic. This is Connecticut, not backwoods bumschmuk USA. Rates are outrageous here. Paying for the effort and parts and shipping and so much more like paint and the time its all going to take.... If you've been around Steve you get a real good feel for his approach to this dilema. Right move,Steve! Go for it. Just inspect all those nooks and crannies. All in good nature here kids. Don't get all flamed out because although I do tend to present my case with a twist o' 'tude , all are pretty cool folks in this dogpile so nobody get fuzzed up over my comments, right?
  3. Forget about fixing it. Yes,you can make it live longer but I don't think you want people looking at you for the wrong reason. That car will never look beautiful again so don't bother thinking about it twice,or thirteen times with all these wonderful folks here. Get the parts off it you need for yourself or to pass along and be thankful you ever even had it and that it lasted as long as it did. You sported it around and got positive reactions all around so enjoy that you had that and find the next one. Onward! Cheers!
  4. My sympathies..... goddoggie I know this sucks for you. TRy to make the best of it. Personal opinion at first sight of this was that maybe you'll consider a western replacement and transpose all the goodness of yours onto it. Good luck my friend. Youch! :-\ I sure hope you work something out that keeps you in the vintage Subaru circle of knuckleheads.
  5. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  6. Won't be the same without Tom - if he stays out of the loop like he said he was going to. Any thoughts on going anytime soon? Picking up my beater Legacy this week. That's the new off roader for me. Looking to do a fun run , no super hardcore stuff. No being the hero of icy puddle bathing ... just good wholesome exercise. Anyone crazy around during the day later this week? Outside chance I could head down with my son and daughter. I have the week off from work except for tonight.
  7. Nice find! Now do yourself a favor and get seatcovers. Those plaid fabric inserts are a pain, the fabric is very brittle over time. Might even want to use another driver's seat and save that one. Lots of Scots in western NC so maybe you appreciate that design. Enjoy it!
  8. Oh that thing. Its part of the pitch stopper. It's a 2 rod stopper unlike those of the Gen 2 and after. Cable (vertical) goes from bracket mounted atop tranny to the hard rod pitch stopper (horizontal).
  9. Factory Service Manuals are on eBay often. Cheap too. Wow,pitch stopper saved the day ....
  10. Not one single bolt and nothing happened in 100 miles? Did it drop at all? Drivetrain entirely flexed and the fan didn't hit the radiator either? I'm sending Kojak AND Columbo out for this mystery. Hey,its old school... I guess the pitching stopper saved your .......
  11. You have ..... The Unit ! Oh,very very cool. Yes,please restore that sucker and make it look as spiffy as you could possibly get back in '73 . That's so frikkin btchin. You've got one of only ....maybe .....3 of those units I know of. Yup,I'm impressed. Go get 'em !
  12. Late '77 or '78 Same corner that our '79 got whacked. :-\ Same kind of hit too. Worth a little something for parts but I don't see too much money there. Sunnuvah frickin it IS a late '77 or '78 because it has the rounded style rear bumper that I sure would like to have a good one of. :-\ If those rear bumper rubber ends are any good please set those aside for me,thanks! I'm looking for a good rear cargo area carpet and hatch inner cover(masonite). Looks like this one is black inside, that's OK. Check those doors along the lower edge too. They look solid from here.
  13. Whoever goes, can you PM me too. Bring a pad and paper and maybe cell phone to call while you're there?
  14. You can muscle those early EA81 Y pipes to work. We used to do it but its not the best solution. Heat the pipe front of the Y push the Y outer ends toward each other takes a few minutes, its a hack job but its been done and keeps a car functioning.
  15. These engines tend to overheat when idling too long, stuck in traffic, etc. Go over everything related to the cooling system and you'll be fine. That means improve grounding to the radiator, maybe replace the temp. sensor, check wiring to the fan,etc....it'll take you a few hours at most but it'll be worth it. Flush the system too,and consider a T fitting near the firewall on the output heater hose for reverse flushing. Dodge Omni lower rad. hose is exact (enough) and can easily be found in modern rubber form. the orig. is the fabric wrapped hose. I have a bunch of those for serious restoration people. Otherwise go for function. Upper hose shows up once in awhile, should still be in stock on the west coast, etc. Same for T'stats, easy to find. Check valve timing too. And ignition timing afterwards. Enjoy! Looks very nice.
  16. He's there, all excited, should be united on Wed. Probably see him stop in here soon.
  17. Carlisle,it'd win and fetch $10K + You'd fly home smiling the whole way.
  18. Exploration only. Sleep after the Giants beat the Cowgirls, then work....give me a call if you're on tonight.
  19. You'd think we'd just chip in at Charlie's instead of all this running around. anyways .....:-\ Let me/us know if you have something to consider up your way, maybe closer to the middle of the state. We're concentrating on the I-91 area around No.Haven/Wallingford/Meriden , but plenty other places to consider.
  20. No,that one was slightly cracked from Maine. It's still here though,Im pretty sure. That one had like 49K on the odometer. I did have a lot of that interior but some went. Still might have what you might need. This is from the one I've got now. 71K Whole Brat from OK,then NM,then NJ for a couple of years, the here last year. Parked over dirt/grass at my mother inlaw's place. I really don't want to give up on it though. Man,I just wish I had the parking stuff all sorted out and had an indoor space for even just one of the classics. I'm in the exploratory stages of procuring space in an industrial bldg. somewhere. Andrew and I are looking to hook up. If the right place came up are are you looking for an indoor space to work with? PM me on that,or call.
  21. Just curious what this board thinks of what I could get for the dash alone and for : beautiful door panels even has the driver's panel "warm up warning" sticker looking REALLY nice. near MINT ceiling liner Solid blue seats -vinyl with the "star" pattern , not cloth Very respectible blue carpet 71k engine and tranny Solid doors Very Very nice tailgate trim - not museum quality, but one of the best you're going to find. Thanks for your opinions. I might add more later, more likely tomorrow....too tired now.
  22. You folks won't believe this but this A-bar that I just sent out to him took 5 years to get to him. Yup,I confess. :-\ Excuses include but not limited to: Closing workshop and moving in 2004,stuffing it all into storage too tight to deal with for a year or so,(2004-2006)moving to a new location where the sun was supposed to shine every day for a few years but just as I was getting organized and ready to deal with the A-bar the guy pulls the rug out (2006)and needs his place back, back to storage units(2007-to present),finally to a place of utter disgust and humiliation and an eye on a light shining ,blah blah blah ....and all that and yup, I finally got the thing on its way. Thanks a million to our man Mike in Oregon ! You are the MOST patient person I've EVER known. And your tunes are btchin ! http://www.amazon.com/Screaming-Gulch-Stills-A-Broken/dp/B000QVX80M Cheers!
