'82 Subaru GLF Convertible
moosens replied to tobiasglass's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Please don't believe too much of what one guy says. THere are air dams out there. They don't come up often. It would look great - good luck and I hope you find one. This car is NOT a Subaru factory car its been modified by one of 2 companies that did these for US Dealers. There were more or less 50 made on each coast. Go wild ! -

Ignition switch sounds right. Bobby, Factory Service Manuals are really cheap compared to labor charges. Probably thing to do now is disconnect the neg. battery terminal and check the switch mentioned by our friend above for burn marks. -

I think you've got more pull with Charlie than I do these days so maybe ask him about one if you didn't already. I don't recall anything like that in our NOS lot. From the pic I thought it was somethnig else. -

We might be there with you guys on the 20th. Hoping to do an overnight on Friday. We'll see. Either way I don't forsee us in a 4WD so we might be your victims,Neo. We'll be doing the usual critter hunting before we meet up with you guys and probably when we break away from the gang too. Outside chance I could have the Gen I Brat back in NJ Still can't get it right but I'm waiting on parts. -
Anybody seen or heard from Skip?
moosens replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
He's surfin on top of his golf cart while his lovelier half puts the pedal to the metal down the cart path on the back nine. or somethin like that .... -
What he said ..... save - search - pay for metal worth saving. Beware of anything that sat over grass for a long time. Pay for shipping - have a garage to work in and keep it in.

Make sure its not an aftermarket...you know the deal. Knobs should pull right off. If tough wiggle up and down a little as you pull. We're probably not going to find many AM/FM's before the '79's. But some people got the retrofit for the '74 - '77's Others bought the Kraco I was a lucky kid and had my brother's hand-me-down Blaupunkt in my '78 Brat and my '76 Coupe wayyyyy back in the early 80's. I can still recall the sound and the way it took a couple of seconds to fully power up like an old tube radio. Story over ...g'nite -
Looking to see what comes up. If you have vintage Subarus in the yards near you please check for us. We're finding these to be a little scarce. Nice $10 - 20 (?) item that takes only a couple of minutes to remove. Mint condtion would bring a little more. Cassette player (OEM) that works ??-- yow!!! No request for 8-tracks yet.

sounds like you're on top of the game more than I was giving you credit for. Right on girl ! And avoiding eBay is a good thing. I'm going to put a call out for those early AM/FM's just incase. I'm sure I have a box with several early radios. And I'm mighty sure there's at least one AM/FM but probably not more than 2. We scored some in a lot of NOS stuff from PA. But that old organization vs storage vs time and all in consideration of good weather to do it in....waaaaagh. -

Gosh I hope they aren't taking too much money for the cable. I've seen those on eBay too. Ext. Reg. Alternators are fairly cheap on there too. You got a pretty good deal at $40 from a store for the V/R. On eBay they show up cheaper but its been a bad couple of weeks for spotting any - naturally when I need one. I'm thinking these early AM/FM's are getting kind of hard to find now. :-\ But I'll get one to you if there's one here. I can't wait for the day that I have things organzied. -
How's the run signal/lights doing? You'll see me in your other post about your car washing calamity.

Voltage regulator. Even if you replace the alt. be sure to replace the V/R as it is reccomended in the factory manuals that you replace both at the same time.. Not many out there this past week,I can tell you that, unlsee you go thru stores and pay much more than the usual eBay price. Be sure you get the correct one. Check the V/R connector, yours should be ROUND. I had my hands on an AM only radio but you don't want that, right? Also had a turn signal stalk in my hands too. p/n -6821 15231 which for some strange reason I can't find in my parts manuals. I have others too, somewhere. -
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=826649#post826649 Thanks to our man Earl we've got a fine selection of direct copy decals. Let's make his (very professional) effort worth his while, please. If you don't need them for your car or MPV buy them anyways. Nice way to spruce up your tool box !!

I haven't forgotten but just haven't gotten to sort thru it all yet. Cassette will be near impossible for me to produce. Good old AM/FM I know I did set one aside for you and there's alos a box with a few radios in it somewhere. We noticed that the early 80's radios fit pretty good too if that helps in the meantime.

THose "stalks" were showing up on eBay once. I'd also - just for kicks - take the fuse out and pull on both ends. Skip once traced mine back to that fuse end being loose but I never noticed it when I pulled it to check. I'm pretty sure once of us will have a used stalk for you if you need one. "Combination switch" if you're searching.

83 Coupe Love ..Restore Progress ( Pics page 2)
moosens replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you took it to a place in Stamford that typically has Aston Martins , Lambo's , Ferrarris ,and all the top names you'd be spending $20k easy. We witnessed my friend's brother inlaw spend over $38k on an Alfa GTV6 for JUST minor body care and fresh paint. Value of the car is far less than that ticket but he's got the money and wanted it done. Unfortunately we have TOO MANY of those types around here so the shop in Stamford can get that price and the owner will pay most up front and pay off the rest when asked to without blinking an eye. Location and demand determine each shop's quotes. Towards the NY border you're going to see prices that will turn stomachs in Willimantic or some other podunk eastern CT town. This is NOT intended to offend anyone from eastern CT. Good luck, Connie. Hopefully you can get a good jump on the overall expenditures with a little DIY. -

I totally agree. They don't get it because they've never been here. Its so cool to go to a drive in joint for their car night and see totally common antique vehicles alongside of the usual muscle cars and hotrods. I actually spend much more time looking them over since I've already seen thousands of Mustang GTO Chevelle Camaro Firebird SS/RS this Bird and that Bird ....same for the Harleys - you can keep 'em ! -

nah , that thing was beyond help. Stick it out. You'll have a rare bird for these parts. These kids will break your stones but only we know what its like here. Oh,and watch how fast your car becomes rare out there too. How many times did I hear " oh we've got plenty of those 70's cars stil , blah blah blah .... but you see them now and apparently they're hiding them Luckily there's been a slight resurgence but for a while there weren't many showing up and nobody was reporting any in yards. I predict the same for you. Rob will be one of the only people with the Coupes soon. the others will begin to disappear. side note - effin DMV !!!! closed 3 days screwed me out of 3 days to get a VIN verification.....bastids. -
I think my water pump is leaking?
moosens replied to tysree's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
O ring replacement regardless. To me if you went that far you should have set a new gasket on and replaced the O ring for longevity. Very cheap parts. And you've got a turbo so you'd better keep it coooooooool. Good luck. -
I have NEW voltage regulators for your car. I will gladly turn over one - or two if you want - for the same low price I paid on eBay.....like $15 each. The '76 has the rectangular connector on the harness. All others don't - they have the round one. If you don't want any I'm thinking of converting the connectors to round if that's possible.

Carlise May 15-17th the East Coast Meet
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Couple of things I'd like to add after talking to Connie last night. Yes , I think it'd be great to have less structured meeting events elsewhere. Connie offers at least once a year. We could come up with a somewhat central location too and do things like we do at Carlisle. Bear Mtn. NY has a nice park .... plenty of places to consider. North Jersey or lower NY would probably be most central for a Northeast meet for folks from Maine (or Cananda) down to VA. But also , some of us will certainly go back to Carlisle so lets please leave the door open for that. And I know I'm considering writing to the Carlisle folks to see why a couple of our gang were considered "trouble" and hopefully keep us in good standing there. Or we just go back to showing up without a dedicated space and tent. Cheers, The Anti-Volvo
