1979 Subaru FE Coupe
moosens replied to Kevin Ferguson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi Kev,this is Charlie's friend - Paul. Good luck with the sale. Todd has told me a lot about the work/parts you've put into this car. Considering that and its solid base this should get at least $2k - but with the economy I'm not so sure about $3k. Talked to Charlie yesterday and he seems in good spirits. Hoping to get up there this week and give him some help. Take care and good luck with the car. -
If it were here in the USA - not GSR but Coupe -it'd be a '72-3 with those bumpers. if that helps Would be nice to have here regardless.

Who's looking 4 Plastic Carb Shield/Winter Kit?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No block heaters in these kits. Look at my gallery for pics. Weber - not sure. I don't think it matters since the shield clips onto brackets not on the carb itself. -
I saw in another post that one person mentioned there's many people looking for the carb. shield used in wintertime. Somewhere in my load of storage are many "Cold Weather Kits" from the late 70's into the '80-84 cars. Please post here if interested in obtaining either the whole kit or just the shield. Sorry I didn't get this posted before the winter came .... Pretty sure I posted these before and got little to zippo response. Having trouble with pics here so please check my gallery and check out the shield and the entire package. Cheers!

Best Fuel Pump for 79' Brat
moosens replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Youch! Yes,someone has already replaced your old pump with something located elsewhere. Your pump belongs where you thought. Getting hard to find the OEM spec. but there's still a few out there. -

Roll Bars and winch bumpers - Original Colors?
moosens replied to Crabman's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Black and white were all I've ever seen stock on the bumpers that weren't chrome. Same for the bars -b/w. There's a few chromed bars out there for sure. I don't recall an aftermarket co. making them but I'm not Joe 4Wheel either. Winch - Yellow Check my gallery it should show you my rig. Orange wouldn't be out of place but yellow for mechanical is SOP to me. -

John ... are you able to check for any stampings? -
This place has had these rear mufflers for oh so long it pains me to still see them for so cheap. These are a really nice deal at $24.99 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Muffler-for-77-78-79-80-81-Subaru-4-WD-Brat_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQitemZ230149250564QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories If someone could handle these I think we could use at least a half dozen up this end, maybe more. Band these together -cheapest cargo possible. The seller told me $93 for shipping one or two banded. That's way too high. I would personally order and pay for 2 with possibly adding 1 or 2 more. Gotta think 2-3 more sold to the CT guys. Maybe Mary in MA? New guy in NY ,and probably a few more for the northeast.

Can someone go by and look this car over for me? http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/1017160958.html Only if its not a problem. Please don't go out of your way. Thanks

BRAT behaving badly, please help!!
moosens replied to Ziester's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
All good advice here but also do yourself a favor and check the plastic silencer and the reeds on the air suction system. The reeds wear out and allow much more heat into the plastic which results in melting and bits of plastic going up into the carb. They sometimes solidify in the carb and can actually cause similar problems. -
Sept. 15th,2001 we had a couple of guys with WRX's & Impreza RS's whipping thru there. I claim large stones for keeping right on their tail with my '86 Brat. Still remember the WTC smoldering dust into the sky that morning looking down the Hudson as we crossed the GWB under a HUGE American Flag. Paison who was the main ringleader of that first USMB Pine Barrens gathering was working just 2 blocks from the WTC when it all went down. I can still recall him describing it as "like being in a Godzilla movie". Pine Barrens offers so many memories. It's great to see people flock together and blow out some steam on the trails. Can't wait untill our next ROMP !

eBay rear bumper you won today
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Not to me. I threw a fairly fat bid on it. First bid and one bid only. I didn't win. Oh well. The point here is that the seller posted it as possibly fitting brat and every other Subaru etc... and didn't care to change the description which was misleading. If that person wants to turn it over I'm here. -
eBay rear bumper you won today
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
That's right. The 4WD wagon was actually imported as a "van". And the Brat was considered a truck(?) which resulted in the hard impact bumpers and no inner door bracing like the passenger cars. I'm not sore. I hope there really is another guy or gal with a late '77 or '78 4WD wagon like mine that is serious -like me. I just didn't like that the seller wouldn't change the description and it invited most vintage owners to think the bumper works for them when infact it does not. -
The Gen 1 Winch - Best Replacement for Original
moosens replied to Crabman's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes,it mounts to the 2 holes on the heavy duty bumper. That one shown is not the original offered in the catalog. At least not for the Gen I. -

moosens replied to the sucker king's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Firstly, can you please check for stampings on the heads for me? I'm looking to see if some letters are on the heads other than the cast EA71 and stamped serial number. THe FE heads different than the other EA71.Has its own camshaft -better lift/duration. Tranny case is its own although I don't think it matters much. It's the taller 2nd and 5th gear that get the mpg's. And there's a low driven gear all its own too. p/n 34145 4300 Normal 5spd LDgear is 44 teeth but it doesn't mention how many on the FE. Hope this info helps answer some Q's. I'm hoping I can swap in those gears since I have them and the shims in new form from old dealer stock. Also hoping I can work it all into my '74 4door...another matter. -
If you're here and you outbid me for that bumper you should know that the seller refused to clarify his description.I wrote to him the following: That bumper ONLY goes on a stage II '77 4WD wagon or '78 4WD wagon only. It will not work on your sedan, coupe, hardtop, Brat or FWD wagon. If you the buyer want to let it go to someone who's car it actually fits then contact me.
