2009: Year of the Group Purchase
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Not from me. That's happened before where a board member or two think the other person is taunting. Happened to me,gonna happen to you too. Let's get back to group buys of parts we all need. Yes,I mentioned fiberglass panels but only because it'll be easier to make glass panels than make them from sheetmetal. In this case something that seems more exotic actually isn't and is most likely the least expensive way to make a new fender, etc. That is if we get things moving and have one shop produce a batch. It'd be nice to have simple old sheetmetal but now we're at a point of needing reproduction panels since originals and aftermarkets are extremely hard to come by. -
Kick around thread. Hoping to spurn individual posts pertaining to but not limited to such items as: The existing threads for rubber/weatherstripping and Heater cores Suspension/engine/tranny mounting rubber Carpet We have some decal repro folks right here. Can we maybe get our heads together and have produced one or two stripe kits (white and black?) for 72-79? Give the maker a good number of buyers - them passing along a discount - keep the money in the family here. Anything else? Fiberglass panels? Pre-formed hoses kits? Brake lines? Tight year for money for lots of folks,I know. But it's also a good year to wheel 'n deal with shops. Think about how long you hope to keep your car on the road. Kick it around.

Need Subaru stock check,please
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Both - prices and acquiring the parts so I can get the repairs done. Already submitted info to car-parts so now I'll try the other one too. Subaruparts dot com showed that it might be in stock. I'd need to actually submit an order to find out for sure. Yes,I think this car will be saved even if I have to go thru the dreaded inspection process for Salvaged Vehicles. If they give me the right price this car will be mostly stripped and the body sent off for repairs to the unibody. If it works out that way I'll have the shop hack out the repairs to the spare tire deck and firewall, and driver's floor near the wall where "Flintstoning" has begun. yabba dabba doo ! -
A mile from your house,eh? Gotta love that. Indy sprouting up and over,my thought too. Same issue here,my son wants the Gen I Brat AND my beloved '78 wagon.:-\ Enjoy it!

I'm bad...I bought a Dodge!

Please read from the begining. -
Now the other side. We have windshield gaskets. There's at least 4 windshields here in CT and more elsewhere. I've used my '78 wagon as a daily driver at times for the last eight years with absolutely NO major repairs. For the money its been my best car, hands down. Once was our only runner in the dead of winter with one infant and a toddler, for about 5 weeks. Our other cars had issues pop up and an accident so there was the old stand by workhorse that it is. You won't find a more reliable engine. Regardless of listed hp you can get some zip out of your car and enjoy not being a nuisance like the hp hungry mouthbreathers. The factory service manuals can be had for peanuts on eBay. There's a healthy support group. Most of us have found these cars extremely easy to maintain. Cheers

Yeah,I hear ya. But one never knows untill one tries. We scored a Stage I wagon rear quarter in our big load. So maybe one of you nice folks will cut a quarter out for me then. -

Sounds like it needs a windshield gasket. Get a moderator to move this thread to the Historic Forum. Good luck with it.

Documented: The 1970 FF-1 Project car...
moosens replied to Kostamojen's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes those shims are for the wet liner sleeves. Gotcha now,I must have blipped out on the use of the EA71 .... but that's the way to go for reliabilitly. My friend has 1400 heads off an engine and probably a set off too. But he's had some serious medical issues arise and I haven't heard from him since Monday. :-\ Annoying New England ice/snow show right now. Give me a few more days now before I can get moving on anything. -

If it comes down to your not finding one at all I'll help you out with whatever I can. I think I have two new heads....I know I have at least one good engine that you'd be able to drop in but at this point you'd be smarter to break down and inspect. I do have a new 1400 4-port but as you know I also have a '74 DL 4door that I went thru a lot of trouble to get here so for now I've got save that new block for that car.....but,me being sympathetic toward this ff-1 you might talk me into some sort of deal. Dang that Dennis didn't have that engine. But maybe that guy Dave Powers in SoCal still has his. I'll dig thru my contacts here and try to find his number. There'll be a couple more ATK rebuilds out there,I'm sure. Finding an SOA crate engine will be just about impossible. And,I do have some shims new and used for the cylinder liners. Thought of the moment: Can you take the stock wheels to someone and see if they can somehow cut and rebuild them? I know nothing about doing such so pardon me if I'm way off base. Or at least then they can copy the proper offset onto a more suitable design. -
John,
Sorry about that. I work overnights so the best time to reach me is from around 12:30 AM to 6:30 AM or leave a message and I'll try to get back to you if I'm awake during the day.
Nothing here for sale,sorry.
My friend Charlie Dow might have a car since he is a mechanic who buys/fixes/and sells cars. He's having some difficulties right now so if you or your brother call him please just call once and leave a message. 860-303-3840. He's a great guy and always has cheapy beaters. But he's upstate closer to Rhode Island, about another hour and 15 min. past my place coming in from NY heading east.
Talk to you soon,
Paul

Blower motor does not function at any speed!
moosens replied to subpoenas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like you found them. Those are cylindrical, right? Round would be a ball. And yes, undo all grounds you can find. Clean the area of contact and all corrosion and use some dielectric grease when you set them back on. -
Haven't done it yet but but I've brought the same subject up before. Older Mikunis would be really cool. But my cut off would be the EA71 cars, personally. I can't see the EA81's with that old English/European sports car look under the hood.

moosens replied to subpoenas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That was my first thought. If it's like the EA82 cars it'll be up under the dash above the driver's left knee ...in the US market. The EA81 folks will know. Metalic cylinder - four wires - one will be larger diameter (blue?) ....IF I'm not mistaken. Pull off the connector and check for blued or burnt post. -
Are you going to be up in the corner near Morgantown or ?? Not likely that you'll get to meet me this time around but you never know. There's been discussion of a possible trip to see our friends in Frederick MD. Good luck on your trip.
