My new toy, and a changing of the guard.
moosens replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If the passenger floor ever got really wet you'll have corrosion on the wires and connectors from that realy under the passenger seat. Lift the front carpet up entirely and check the wires, trust me on this one,it was a major problem discovered only after swapping switches and relays. -

Good car for the times. Cam seals and O rings, front main, pumps, water tube O ring, you know the deal. I still have a place in my heart for those SPFI fivespeeds. Keep the covers on! I'm pro timing cover. just use antiseize. Somewhere I have new parts and timing belt kit, etc. for those cars. If they show up soon I'll give you a PM. Also have new sensors, one or two. I just had those same Blue Thunder wires in my hands. for the SPFI too. Good luck with it. -
Did the windshield gasket install tonight
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Dry,then squirted some clear silicon under the top edge (very thin caulk bead) and under the upper ears thick enough to fill the gap between the glass and metal and ooze out when the the ear was set back down. And,I hit the lower corners too just a bit. -

Car: 1979 4WD wagon Went well. Ran into the dark but got it in. Tomorrow I'll squirt some sealant in behind the upper ears. Used a rope about 3/16 diameter. Ran the tails out at the bottom near center. Had a helper hold pressure here and there. Found out afterward that you want that helper pushing down when you go to pull the rope along the top edge. Ended up tucking the inner lip around the metal and ceiling liner 1/2 inch at a time to complete. Needed to since I'd already pulled the rope past those points. All things considered it went well. I'd say it's fairly easy for just about anyone. Water test still in the midwest...should be here in a day or so. Otherwise I'm glad for the sunshine so the gasket seats well. If it doesn't rain in a couple days I'll gardenhose test it. Have a great summer!!!!!!!!!!

Yup,we're looking at going to see the ivy on the walls. Not sure when, which game, etc. Son is a huge Cubs fan - and born a Yankee - so he's on that kick most baseball fans dream about where you try to get to the best old staduims before they're all gone. You guys could see us just about any weekend over the summer. Nothing is certain but we sure are leaning HARD toward first base. Please let me know if you'd like to meet up or if you know of good Cubs tickets. Thanks! Would be willing to devote a half day to yard hopping, but I know the rust zone extends out that way too. Could use some 1990 -up Legacy stuff, not much but ... for the sake of getting together and yard hopping. Could be the Cubs year !

There's an upgrade metal gear for that governor too. Least expensive and least time consuming. -
Hood Release Adjustable?
moosens replied to carfreak85's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Sure will, but also check that the latch itself isn't starting to mangle. Might have to remove the grill and the latch to view it properly. Takes only a few minutes - grill 4 screws - latch 2 bolts and then carefully work the latch out to view it. If you have A/C be carefull of the condenser fins. Trying to replace a cable right now but with the moving I have going on I can't seem to take any time to get this done as easy as it should be.And it needs to be done so I can park the car elsewhere without worrying about someone opeing the hood and ripping off my battery, etc. When I pulled the latch out I could see the loops around the receiver were well bent up,like everyone else's I suppose. They (latches) have that reputation of tweaking out. One thing that I'm pretty sure is holding me up is the clamp that holds the cable onto the radiator support - its not there :-\ so I need to hunt one down. Without the cable being locked down at that point the entire cable will just slide with your every pull. -
Hood Release Adjustable?
moosens replied to carfreak85's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Chances are the latch is starting to tweak out a little. Or the cable just getting tired. Either way,you have lube and replace as options only. Good luck. I have several of these in new and good used condition. If you can wait untill June then ask me, I can hook you up. Also have latches in good used condition. -

Couple of things. One,I did sell on eBay,a set of blue door panels that had a VERY nice example of that sticker on it. Two,I was going to contact a board member -SubaruTex and see if his company can produce a contact sheet with all those old decals the FHI and SOA folks stick on before they hit the showroom/lot. "Caution Fan" , E-brake adjustment , "Do not let idle stick...." and the whole lot.. I think guys like you and myself would gladly pay the big ticket for the set up. You know how it is,set up is the cost, running them off is peanuts. And,only about 6 people here would actually buy a set. :-\ Meanwhile,I'll try to carry the camera and see if I can get a nice example for you.

I just had new sets in my hands yesterday. I'll be back at my storage later today or tomorrow and will try to bring a set or two home. Tiny clips, springs, shims, all that cool stuff. Send me your shipping address and notate WHAT IT IS I'm shipping ,your real name and your board name, please and I'll send a set out. Toss me the shipping and a few bucks,we'll work it out later. Just be patient, please. I'm way over my head right now with having to move storage,etc.etc....Thanks
