  1. Like I said,no Friday or Monday classes.Or at least not late Friday or early Monday. He's still married!!!! Devotion? Commitment? Some people will do that sort of thing. Especially when you have a trustworthy Subaru. BTW he lives in NY,not CT and if you look at a map it's just into NY from Danbury,CT so it's a good 35+ miles north of NYC. If you met him, you'd believe him.
  2. Cool, yeah, send me a number.I think the last time I called you didn't answer/call back because it changed....talk to you soon. July looking good so far.
  3. You PM'd that number to me,but I don't really need it.Thanks though,it's a different number from what I have,so that's probably the home number. Shawn, hit those yards and let me know what's there from the 70's....please.
  4. July looking pretty good for me. I think the first weekend is tough, but later gets better. I might even hit the famous Jersey Shore for some time in the waves, make a weekend out of it. Don't forget, when its dry you NEED a dust mask of some sort-bandana,T-shirt,etc....but there will be much dust kicking up on anyone not in the lead position. Glad you're doing better,Neo!
  5. OK,but as I know it I'm not exactly ready to start a list and carry this forward. If you guys get 25 then someone might want to step up and take the order to PRP. I'm just too busy right now,and not continuing with any EA81 cars. PRP = Pecision Replacement Parts http://www.prp.com/ Derek Churchyard is THE guy to deal with. We have established a good relationship with them. The price we got is well below their retail price.
  6. Glenn, That's all wonderful, but the guy is as unique as his car's mileage. You do all the math you want and call it as you see it,that's fine. I believe the guy. So,between the two cars they have well over 2 million miles. That Hatch is rusty but salvagable.Could make it to 1 million too, with some help. Anyhow....I'm going to call him later this week to see how he's doing.
  7. He told me he always taught in places like U of Michigan,U of Florida,etc.etc...and he's stay there in a small apartment during the week, not have a Friday afternoon class or a Monday morning class, and blast home on the weekends. His routine was to get home, park the car, drain the oil,THEN go in and see the wife.Come back later and finish the oil.And if it was the fifth time he'd do a tune-up too. He's a classic.
  8. Pretty much... Take I 84 west to Rt. 67 in Southbury,CT Head north on 67,that's a great ride and quick too.One of the best motorcycle/sports car sections in the state! That is from Southbury to New Milford on Rt. 67. Personally,I would go that way and not try to go all the way across Mass. and then down.
  9. Unfortunately parking is the issue.Besides,it appears he doesn't really want the 1.7 mil. gone. It's now the Hatch with over 450k on it that he's focusing on getting rid of. This doesn't help either: Here's the Professor by his 1.7 mil. wagon: Should have asked him for the Helmut's license place holder. My brother was a Subaru tech there in the late 70's/early 80's. You can see -for us up here- it's really not bad,the wagon, for what it is.Right now it's almost as rare in these parts as my '78 wagon. But,since he had no children in his life I guess this is just like one. He's very attatched to it. As for the hatch, that was his wife's car mostly.Trying to extract a price out of him was difficult, but when I mentioned $500 or so he said he thought that was maybe even a little low....so we'll see how long he waits before dumping it off. He's selling his current house, going to focus on a less expensive plot of land and build a smaller house for he and his wife. He's 80 years old!! He's going to focus on staying in Greece -where he is from- and keep a small house here not too far from where he is now. So,he says the end of this coming week he needs to do something with the Hatch. To me,he's nowhere near ready to move, but he has gotten rid of TONS of excess he had around.I actually drove past his house to his neighbor's because I couldn't recognize the yard without all the Subarus and stuff. Great stories he has. From high ranking public officials to students he's had to just about everything this guy has seen a LOT in his years. He holds no real optimism for this country right now,and justifies that with substancial economic information. He's a Professor of Economics and was one of 28 leading Professors who Russia hired to consult with when going from a Planned Economy to Free Enterprise ....and he is the ONLY one they retained afterwards. A great experience even though I'm not getting any cars out of this ....yet. I will do my best to keep in touch with him and make sure that 1.7 mil. car stays around. But at this point,he wants no publicity and does not want to bother with SOA or anyone to write an article, etc. My camera and his related stories are all we have.No reciepts since he did almost 100% of the work ever done to the car. But I have no reason to believe he's not telling the truth. And his wife verified the mileage. The odometers in both cars either don't work anymore or were changed. I loaded some shots into my gallery if anyone cares to see some more but they aren't all that great. The cars as you can see were tucked into a fairly crowded garage.
  10. Thanks Jon,I was going to post asking for a Harry's update!! Good timing. And yes,I'm wanting to go for the 2.2's we have. Sure can't expect 70's stuff, and don't really care for the 80's anymore .... which means I'll probably get the 1.7 million mile EA81 from the Professor ...see the 1/7 million mile car post for details.
  11. Going to go see the Professor in NY. He's this great old fellow who's taught all around the world. One of those interesting people who for me,is hard to resist going to see. He wants to "have a cup of coffee with me" and talk about his old Subaru. From our phone conversation I believe he's down to one, when he had four EA81 vehicles back when I saw him last in 2001.He tells me he's moving to Europe so ....... One of his cars has over 1.7 million miles on it. His wife came out and verified it. This car has been refurbished on a rotisserie but apparently is rotting again in some places.I'll give you all the update, with pictures, after I go see him today...hopefully. I really don't have time, but this is one of those things I just can't resist. Just to sit and talk about the world with this guy is going to be a pleasure. He's a very special person with much insight. The car as I knew it back then,is only on its second engine!! He also has,or had,a hatchback that had over 450k on it with ALL original components he says. The Brat he had is gone as well as another EA81 parts car he had.It was either a wagon or Hatch, can't remember. He also has a couple of off the wall mini vehicles inside, and had a late 70's or VERY early 80's Toyota truck that was also in exceptional condition, which is near impossible to find around here.Even the 90's Toyotas are rotted out already. See you all later with an update. Meanwhile, let me know what you think about owning and caring for a 1.7 million mile car. I'm going to try to get him to allow me to use his story with SOA for their Dive,I mean Drive magazine.Maybe I should see if SOA wants the car? Cheers!
  12. In the words of the great Dee Dee Ramone .....WHAT ABOUT ME?????!!!!!! Nah,he just got a new number. It's area code 603 from Cow Hampshire. Gotta sleep, more info later.
  13. Huh?? Hater? nah..... Maybe next year,we'll see. I'll have to up the insurance policy so I can shred the Gorge for once in my life. I am soooooo not ready for it. But I'd have to do it.
  14. Just don't put my wheels on it from Mudrat. Have fun with it!
  15. Treat him about half as nice as you'd treat me. Hey Rob,good idea...not sure why he didn't jump in here and post already...but then again the kid's been all over the stinkin country and then some meeting tons of you folks. He's my warm up act.:-p Andrew is really busy lately, and avoids the USMB as he is getting more wise by the day. So if he doesn't chime in,look out for him and meanwhile I'm sending him all the numbers I do have for you guys.....Eric,Ken,Mudrat-yes Mudrat,Russell,....hmmmm...whoever else I have around here. And Mick too.Midwest coverage. We were talking about routes to and from.I think he's decided on lower runs through Utah and then up....but I-90 on the way back! Lucky @$%. details to follow...I'll try to get him to post.
  16. Andrew,a.k.a. "wagonsonly" should be there. He's driving out there in a non-Subaru,but be good to him.
  17. You got a reeeeeeuhl purty mayouth there boy........ Hey,when you rednecks are done, let us basic white trash know when you want us to show up.
  18. Doing ok here, just tired often. Not enough sleep, broken sleep, sleep envy....everything but sleep as it should be,most of the time. Almost done with the move nobody helped me with. Glad you're doing better and hope we see each other in PB soon !! Kick it around a little, let some others chime in,then we'll set a date.
  19. One,I need to hit the NH region sort of soon.Anyone up that way that wants to meet up let me know. Two,"NEED" to hit the Pine Barrens and "NEED" to hit the junkyards of eastern PA,with the likes of Harry's in Hazelton, the Rt. 61 places, and maybe Allentown on the way out or way back. Pine Barrens in south Jersey is moderate sandy trails with occassional nasty stuff. If you don't have 4WD most likely you can still go through or park at the entrance and go in with someone else. "NEED" means needed for the spirit of doing it,nothing else. Anyone else interested? Neo,you feeling better yet?
  20. Hey everybody, just wanted to start a fire over here. We over in the historic forum have already successfully had one group buy for windshield gaskets and are currently distributing our second order as a group. Now we have a weatherstripping/door seal order builing and it got me thinking of you guys over here.We had several Gen II Brat and EA81 car inquiries but we were unable to help them. Those gaskets and seals are still avalible from PRP,who we have an established relationship with. If you folks can get yourselves together you'd likely save a solid $30+++ per windshield gasket each if you put in an order of 25 or more. Another reason for getting you folks involved is an ongoing discount.Your cars and Brats are going to need everything ours are now,or soon will be.If you folks intoduce more orders to PRP it'll only help us all around. If anyone has other suppliers to consider please let us all know. Something to consider if you assume your aging Subaru to be a collectible Classic.
  21. Now you're talkin',baby!!! I will gladly cover whatever we determine we need per Stage II wagon TIMES TWO.So if you need say 75 ft. per wagon then I want 150 ft.,at least. There's another Stage II project in the coming years. And,if we get Stage I again,I'll cover 2 times a fourdoor. That should cover the fourdoor and the coupe. No other stage I on the horizon, but I think one day I'm going to get a Stage I 4WD wagon again. Paypal all loaded up right now.Or a check or M/O...let me know. We doing a group buy and someone distributing or each order drop shipped from the supplier or what?
  22. You guys are doing more to scare people away than attract them.
