Two things I'd like Subaru and Subaru of America to have the balls to do is to bring back a 1600 for the American/westernworld market, and bring back an on demand mechanically engaged dual range 4WD tranny. The 1600 we've always considerd the real work pony of the herd.1100's good,1300's excellent but about to lose ground,1400's problematic,1600's the ANSWER.For me,life pauses there.I've come to use and abuse the 1800's but never warmed up to them like I have to the 1600.There's a certain old world tech, antiquity about them but they were leaps ahead of the 1400's and those previous.Any 1600 is a great engine in my opinion. The FE with the higher compression, etc.,and special gearing made even more sense of it all.A dual carb set-up 1600,yummy. 1600, the end. I'll end this with that famous quote from my wife,on the cell phone, calling me from her '96 Legacy coming back from the Carlisle Import/Kit Show with me running up front in my 1600 1978 4WD wagon with a buggered speedometer...."I'm doing 90 and I'm losing you...can you please slow down?"

Harry's and some of the other smaller yards in PA.Well, after Harry's they're ALL smaller. Might try F & S in Waterbury,CT but they're often expensive.Save you a longer drive though. If you want to head in the other direction contact "junkyardGabe" who helps run a yard in Lisbon Falls/Freeport Maine right near L.L.Bean and crap the ladies love, outlet stores 'n bead shops 'n stuff.Good run to keep women happy while you hustle some parts.Contact him,he'll let you know what he has.Search members above. Hate to tell you this but you and a lot of other people missed tons of EA81 stuff I tossed out and gave away. There's some pockets of older Subarus up here, but few and far between. We have an '82 GLF registered right now.Turns 25 in January!Already passed emissions for the last time it needs to,walks into "Antique" status soon, like yours. "Bucky92" will be taking it over into the Classic era. -

You have my sympathy. -
Or they could be 70's radiators. This is from a manual printed in 1987 for the 70's. p/n's = 645010180,645010491 for automatic,645010470 or 645010460.... This one was from a 1980 FPM: p/n = 745111040 and 745111050 Hope that helps, good luck.Note the sides, that'll tell you which production it is. Good luck with the Karma game too.I did that and you'll still get a good kick in the teeth sooner or later no matter how nice you try to be.

I'm sure that's true in a few cases, but hey, there's several kits here and I only own two vintage Subarus right now.You guys will be welcome to some of them,I'm sure. Meanwhile, anybody know anything about the individual parts, their function, etc.? I haven't gotten to ask the older guys yet.

Soon, very soon I hope.Registered the white wagon today, passed emissions, but it's leaking and getting too hot at times.Have to work tomorrow,so give me some time. We'll talk over the weekend. What about Rory and my turbo wagons?Any word? They'll be moved to Andrew's this weekend or next because it's CRUNCH time.
-
I've got the FSM out and can see no fabric cover or joint, etc. Is it down on the steering gearbox on the passenger side end?
-
Hey Connie, when did you start driving an Audi?:-p Think positive thoughts,I'm going for emissions on the white PA eBay wagon tomorrow. It stopped smoking (see desperation/panic "Need SPFI")post. If it passes and I can afford to register it you'll get Lucky back very soon,if you still want it. I drove Lucky tonight to go see my dad in the hospital. It ran fine, and my dad is doing good too.Hang tight and I'll be in touch soon. Meanwhile,Mr.Wonderful Rory hasn't gotten back to me,apparently does not have the same cell phone or isn't using it,so if you can tap him on the shoulder maybe he'll come grab those turbo wagons. Thanks

Be sure to fill out a post of desires in the "Wish List" thread. Please consider printing it and helpng others within the community as you can. We'll do the same.I take that thread seriously so whatever you post I'll print out and help you out as I can.

You're very welcome for the tag.I was hoping it didn't offend you at all,so thanks for accepting it so kindly. Nice effort, and never mind about perfect restorations. You're keeping that particular body style on the road, that is the best you can do within reason. To spend what it takes to make it a perfect restoration would be insane.I've seen people poor money you can't imagine into things like an Alfa Romeo GTV6 and the work costs about 5-10 times the value of the car-IF-you can find a buyer purchasing at top level.Good job of keeping your head on your shoulders, and keeping a realistic time frame. Marshmallows don't have stripes....but if you were to stripe it I'd say go blue and match the interior. And,I'm Paul Cheers!

Tasty marshmallow!!!!!Looks sweet!

Hood and fender no problem, maybe even right here on the board. Floorpans I'm not sure of.Mill Supply used to carry them, maybe another company too. Gas tank-maybe a fuel cell instead?Maybe get one from the west coast/southwest?I had one for ya,sorry to say it's not around right now.Maybe our man Charlie took it,maybe Andrew, can't remember but I doubt I kept it and put it in with my storage. Good luck with it.
-
East coast is tough for your Brat but you have to hunt and make lots of calls or check online. Your hub isn't going to be on eBay,most likely, but you'll either find a board member with one or you can search one of those carparts dot com sites. Oh,wait, there's a guy who's got some '78 Brat parts on eBay and says he's parting it out.Try him.Search '78 Subaru on eBay and you'll see it.

Yes,they came in black and silver during the early 70's.We just grabbed some of each in that stock we got.I'll try to get a shot of them when I get together with Charlie. There's 4 in. wheels and 4 1/2's and 5's all X 13" Not sure but I'd guess the black ones were 4 1/2"
-
Gee,not much response here on this one. Any knowledge of all the other parts and their location would be helpful....you knew that.

Yes,I have those, but I don't have time right now, sorry.Everything got put away and has left my home and gone back to storage.Still have to get the other two guys together, but they know already that I was setting a set aside for you.I don't think anyone here understands exactly how hard it is to get Andrew, let alone Charlie and Andrew to show up somewhere at the same time.Haven't been able to make it happen since Carlisle in May!!! If you can wait then when I get settled into our next home I'll gladly hook you up.If you really need them soon I just can't help you right now, sorry. -

:slobber: If an excellent match in carpet supply comes along, please considerinquiring about a group buy. Black, from '72-79 would sell big I'm guessing.Colors a lot less -
Yes,and unfortunately the owner is in poor health.I was talking to Charlie who took home some of the parts, etc. and he was reading in the guy's paperwork that he/they were getting way behind on credit before they bailed. From the looks of it they closed their doors in early 1980....does that sound right?

East coast, next weekend of the 15th??
moosens replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
He's at one of the bases in GA or SC if I remember right. How far north are you willing to travel? -
I'll have to hunt through the service memorandums, etc. that I have and see if the instructions are around.I brought home just one package and emptied it out.I did not see any instructions with the package,so I'm sure the dealers must have gotten some nomenclature of this. Pretty cool,no pun intended. It's the carb shield that we're all familiar with from the EA81. Here's the postmark and label from the package: September 1979.... PCV stepdown: Vacuum Hose connection sticker comes with it. Let me try to find some more info on them.Meanwhile if somebody wants to add info please do so.
