Q about subaru shopping in new york
moosens replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nevermind Pat NYC school system teaches to over 110 (maybe more) nationalities of students every day. That's number 1 according to the news. Mo, It's getting extremely difficult for any Loyale parts or cars to be found in good condition. You have to find those small pockets of old Subarus and usually work with private sales or a good junkyard that holds older Subarus. Reality is they mostly hustle the cars into the crusher in the more populated areas.Very rarely will a yard near a city hold cars long and most don't want you going to the cars.So you never get to see exactly what the car looks like, etc. There are or were some specialty shops in NJ that were HEAVILY into the 70's and 80's and early 90's Subarus. It's tough to say how many places are still open.Like Pat said, they now cater to only the last 8 or so years of production.Anything old is mostly garbage to them. Hal's in North Carolina comes to mind.An East coast legend for sure.Kind of far but you might call and see what's to consider. The drive down can be awsome!Might make a nice weekend outing for you if you have time. http://www.halspartsandservice.com/ There's older shops in NJ but I just can't recall the names right now.Maybe Boz would know (PHATBRAT). Around NYC you'll find nothing but a hard time looking for older Subarus or parts, etc. unless you run into one of us here.I'm about 50 minutes with no traffic from upper Manhattan.Sounds like you're looking for stuff that never really went over here.THere never were any true performance upgrades, etc. commonly available for the Loyale cars around here.Nothing execptional. Make a list for us to work off of,please. We'll do our best to see what we can line you up with when you arrive. Will you have a car to use on the weekends? -
Hey gang, our good USMB member 'sko a.k.a. Bosco is hitting a yard tomorrow in LA.Half price day so he can score some nice parts for us and ship to you.Helps him if you buy and surely the prices will help you in return. He's going to be busy so he asked me to post for him. There's two Gen I Brats and an XT...6? and possibly more cool cars not yet seen. Think up your gen I Brat parts list and he'll post soon. He has some blue gen I Brat interior parts already.I snagged the remote door handle covers, sorry.

Edited subject title early Tuesday AM 09/05/06 Please check posts further down, thanks. Searched the USRM....found nothing. 1987 turbo 4WD single range Both cables are older but very good.Might be a little sticky from sitting but I've got decent movement from both. I can't seem to get the clutch set up like I expect it to be.Doesn't return well at all.I got it a little better before I decided to call it a day. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. Is the only clutch return spring the hill holder spring? The turbo parts car I had sported a seperate return spring since his hill holder was out to lunch.I'm thinking that might be the way to go for now but really I want to do it right. And besides, that car is gone with the spring so I'd have to go buy something and right now stores are closing, etc. I've got both cables taunt and the adjustment nuts are well down the rods, not near the outer end but near the inner side so there's plenty of room for adjustment. Any help is as always, greatly appreciated.

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Congrats on yours being so cheap! We still have a $200 car in the family too. But,the big story.......... Got the RuStFrEe Turbo wagon going today! Just let it run for a few minutes.Going to put the t/belt covers on and get air in the tires tomorrow.Loving life at the moment!!!!!!!! Good feeling indeed, much needed for the spirit. Rustfree from the southwest, this car was found locally for $500 Ran it for year, almost exactly, then it needed a dif./tranny swap....TWO plus years ago!!!!!!!!!!! Two years plus I've waited for this day.I think I'll post about the ordeal for good fun. Probably have a good $300 into it with the new axle, all seals, pumps, just about every cooland and duct hose I could get,etc.....so for $800 I've got a body that should last another 20 years if I treat it properly.Yeah,I know, the EA82T won't last that long, but I can live with that.

Can you post a link that works, please? -
Cool, thanks. But I've just got to find out why all the other parts were in there.

For us it's a tough time. Our plans have been pushed back at least a month, but if our home sells quick we could still do it in early October. If it doesn't sell by then we might still do a long weekend at OBX for sanity. Right now I need to retain my marbles and not think about sand and waves. :-\ :-p

Using EA82 water pump on EA82T...shim pulley out?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
N/A fan has longer stem. That's why it's even that much tighter going in. Anyhow,I'm beyond this point now,so thanks everybody. -

Been threatening to hit that coast for waaaaaaaaaaay too long now. Wife and I said -maybe- next year if we get settled into our house and we're not over our heads in bills.Winter will determine the outcome. But yes,I'd be up for a few of us doing it.Andrew,Charlie,me,you,??? there's plenty of sicko road warriors among us here. -

The whole EAST COAST says THANKS TOO!!!!!!! It's great to see such a nice event for all those folks to take part in. Obviously well organized and well run.Even the puke got cleaned up!:-p That's ok that you guys didn't ask me this year, that's ok,I'm ok with that, yup, uhh huh,no problem....... Someday, maybe 2007,we'll see how this winter goes. -
Must have been reading about you guys drinking...I opened a bottle of rum tonight, and I never, never drink at home. It's Mount Gay,don't bust my chops, and was a stag party raffle prize, only reason I have it.So,I'll sip a slow one and see if you send that PM before I lapse into zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz So how close are you guys to the river from there?Someday I need to get there and die trying to shredd the Gorge as an aging punk stick flyer.:-\ Gotta be a lot of those new flyers out there now, what do they call 'em??? Chute boarders? or something like that?Para surfers?Gotta see that river and the Gorge someday.....and you guys,of course.

Right on!!! Nothing like knowing you don't have to go through emissions again with a vehicle. We've got two that are good for life, but Connie hopefully is going to take her GLF back and keep it going since it's "good for life".

Where's the hotties and some shots of the river? Guinness has two N's Corky. Glad to see you guys had a good time and made it home in one piece.

Using EA82 water pump on EA82T...shim pulley out?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just went out in the slight drizzle of a rain and got that done. Looks healthy to me. I used the regular EA82 fan which to me seems better.....any thoughts on that? The radiator JUST makes it with the pulley shimmed out like it is and using the N/A fan.Once its set in place there's plenty enough room.Noticably closer, but not enough to make me wet my pants. Thanks again guys.Something new for an old R & R dog. -
Using EA82 water pump on EA82T...shim pulley out?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks guys,it's a dealer pump,so no extra washer. Will proceed without fear or hesitation! -
I see no alternative.Has anyone else done this? The water pump I installed on my turbo engine is the standard EA82 pump. Turbos use a different pump which holds the fan pulley out another half inch or so towards the radiator. All my other pulleys line up but this new pump would have the last pulley out of line by about a half inch towards the rear of the car. I went and bought longer studs and some washers to space it.Going to attack it later and see how it looks.Meanwhile if you've done this can you please give me a little peace of mind and let me know how it worked out.I'm concerned about the fan tilting should it loosen up or not be torqued equally.I'd hate to ruin the really nice radiator I have. BTW,I did search and could not find a similar thread. Thanks

Check back in a month or so.There might be one left for you. -
Hey guys, let's please limit the useless posts to as close to zero as possible. Most of us don't have time to waste looking at your crying or moaning.Post something substancial, please. Also, please understand some of our rules here that get brushed aside occasionally. Avatars are supposed to be related to cars,Subarus, and not much else.PLEASE read the rules and alter your avatar if necessary.Or the avatar nazis will come to find you.:-\ And please use the eBay/Craigslist Forum for those posts.Yes,I realize that those vehicles pertain to the Historic Forum but if someone can click here becasue they love Vintage subarus then they can click the eBay/Craigslist Forum too. Have a nice day.

How the F*@# do U get the Hub Nut off??
moosens replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Connie, was that what you called about? Damned if I wasn't struggling myself with the rear brake drum on a Brighton Legacy P.I.A. Good luck with it. -
Lovely! Have a blast!!

You pm or email me and I'll let you know what parts you have. How about the radiators? I just bought one off of eBay,naturally.:-\ I'd put that carb on eBay if I were you. Of course,if you want to cut me a deal for helping you with the part numbers..... ...... What color is the box the carb is in?If it's the old black, red, and white it'll probably be for the early 70's PM or email moosens at yahoo.com
