  1. Thanks Mick. So,what's there left of it?:-\ Sounds like you called me in for dinner to see an empty plate,Shawn.:-p
  2. OK,thanks. So,can you think of anyone around you who might be going by there? I always expect to pay for people's time.
  3. Shawn, did you notice if it had a shifter console at all? Thanks,I'll try to call on Monday to see if they'll help me out at all. Do you know if they'll rip 'n ship?? If not, they need a junkyardGabe on their crew!!:-p Before I pester you (sorry) can you draw on your memory and maybe give me a little more detail about the seats all around, and the rear panel behind the rear seat? Anyone else in your area from the USMB who might have time for a better look and parts snagging? Again, sorry, but you know how it is with these cars.I think there's less than a dozen on the roads. These cars get crushed instantly in rust zones. Thanks for your help.
  4. Greg,I don't mind you guys sharing expenses at all.But the last Canadian guy apparently never paid the taxes he said he would....still waiting on proof....I guess it's not a big deal to him that FedEx is busting my stones....so,let me sit down one night and figure the taxes and shipping to you,and I'll include the other guy's in there and you two can divide them up in the great white north. No sweat on the timeframe as long as you say you'll not be backing out. OK,I'll try to get a speadsheet going later.Sorry, but I tend to only have about 10-20 minute sessions on the computer, except late at night.
  5. Well put,and certainly worth shoving in people's faces a second time.
  6. The exploded view shows it setting in from the rear, outside. BUT,you'll have to pop the lid mentioned above and remove the shifter rail by means of first removing the shifter fork.....from looking at the drawing. Shifter fork is retained by a 5 x 22 straight pin.Four Philips screws and a tiny punch and hammer, then the seal is yours for the picking. Todd,if you score that seal, can you please snag one for me too? Thanks! Seal size -12 x 22 x 5 Talk to you soon.
  7. Or Masonite. The material used is really close to masonite. Can easily be dampened and formed overnight for bends and curves. You'll probably try to save your existing panel, and I don't blame you,so let us know what method you chose.Be sure to make it nice so the bobble head dog has a nice place to lay down. Remember those?
  8. Mine is the GL1400.I still haven't even looked at my VIN # The car sits at my parents house but next time I will check.I've been meaning to find out for myself.Maybe a call to dad tomorrow, since I'm more curious now. After the revision of the 1400 in '74/75 all the EA engines, etc. were bored, not sleeved.
  9. I'm looking at my FPM and from what I can see there's a seal on that lateral shaft,"rail 3" (shifter fork).Looks like the seal sets into the case from the rear side of the boxy rise in the case. There's a squarish flat cover on the topside held down by 4 Philips screws. Seal p/n I'm talking about is/was 8067 12050 for 4WD wagon and Brat only. Rock 'n roll my brother!:-p
  10. Thanks guys! The board sent me a gift certificate for three psychotherapy visits,a "day spa" day of electro shock therapy, two containers of cute little pills with yellow and red lables all over the outside, something called Oregon oregano????,and a copy of "How To Keep Your Subarus Without Ruining Your Marriage". You guys RULE!
  11. Not really, sort of...but let me try to help explain. The 1100 was in the first non-360 series.Wasn't there a 1000 also??Nobody ever sees or even talks about them. Then came the 1300,which really is a great engine for what it is. Now in 1973 you'll find that there's 3 Stages of production, but those stages represent different parts in assembly, not body style changes. That's a Stage I,II,and III all their own, within 1973.They punched out the 1300 to make the 1400 and that's where the problems started with the wet cylinder sleeves.Popular opinion amongst the elder Subaru techs I know is that the 1400 was just punched too much and lack or remaining material in the blocks causes the extra motion...etc.etc...which resulted in many headgaksets wasted, some heads warped...much complaining, but they managed to gain interest especially in New England. Then production was typical from '74 thru Stage I 1977.Same bodies, just changes in the engines, addition of automatic, addition of 4WD in the wagon.1400 revision (4port exh. to 2port exh.,dry bored cylinder) just in time for it's demise, and enter the 1600. Stage I and Stage II typically refers to the 1977 model changes to the bodywork. The Brat comes along with the advent of Stage II. Stage I has the indentaion that runs the length of the body on the side panels and doors.Stage II is smoooooooooooooooth. Hope this helps.
  12. Ouch.......:-p Rex, I'm sure there's a gold side stripe kit in either the stock we're getting, another old stock I know of,or in my stash.Gold would look bit chin on that, uhh, paint job. Actually, you gotta give it points for being an eye catcher.
  13. Well,I reached another low,er uhh...milestone...post number 10,000. Promoting vintage Subarus as daily or often used drivers. So yeah,I'm that guy that who drives his '78 4WD wagon all over lower Fairfield County Connecticut, causing rich little snots to turn their heads and make dumbfounded faces while mom drives her $75k++ vehicle. I'm that guy driving that old grey ghost, getting looks, getting smiles, getting thumbs up.Blasting down the interstate at around 90mph when within reason,of course.Tell 'em,Andrew. Met a whole lot of folks from this board and the milestone only shows how much I enjoy all of your company. Thanks for all the great times. Looking forward to being settled into a new home this year and feeling at peace..... ....ok,so the house IS achievable. But once I'm settled I'll do my best to have a gathering at our new place and Christen it the New First Subaru Church of the Resurection. Cheers, Paul
  14. Brian, you're right about not many people wanting to offer $2k+....but those few that will are out there.Regardless of size of the market, there's most definitely a market. These days eBay is about as precise of a marketing tool as you can use for dumping off a car of interest.Pretty much any item people will romance can be sold. Anyhow, sorry to see about your car getting broken into again.Good luck with it.
  15. Come '77? they dropped the GL. My FSM of June '78 shows no GL in the line up.All "A26,A66,and A67"'s came as either Std.,DL,or the GF hardtop.Excepting the 4WD wagon-no designation at all. Yes,upon checking,'79 brought the GL back if you got a 4WD wagon or Brat. In '77 the coupe was now a DL or an FE so the GL ran in the Coupes from I guess 1972-1975 One FPM shows GL on the coupe in '75 but not in '76. Just going from FSM and FPM's.I don't recall seeing early GL's other than the coupes as a kid. Maybe dealers were allowed to tag them GL's if they sold some options???Just a thought.
  16. Keith,Sorry to see that damage.Good luck with it and the rest of the season,if possible.
  17. Think even higher,I believe. I sold a '76 automatic 2door sedan with 37k on it that now sits restored in Sweden for $2,000 a few years ago. His car looks just as solid and just as shiny.Maybe his interior isn't near museum quality like the one we had,but it looks plenty acceptable. I really regret having to sell that one.Regret not trying a miracle salvage on the '75 4WD wagon...and regret not tucking the '76 GF Coupe away instead of crushing it (56k car!) .....ouch. Oh,yes Andrew,I still regret selling you the '75 too.....you knew that. At least you western folks have a much easier time finding them than we do here. But it's the time now that all the old lady cars will be exposed. You can't let these low mileage beauties go by from this point on.
  18. Rooms are plentiful and fairly inexpensive that time of year.Might be cheaper than gathering up equipment.
  19. Sure.If we make it happen I'll probably drive Friday night and stop somewhere just north of OBX for some sleep, then hit the surf Saturday late morning. Just a kick around thread. Start kickin'
  20. tick tock tick tock tick tock........ Pics please......
  21. OBX = Outer Banks of North Carolina. If you've never been there you've been missing the best of the east coast for shoreline. There's nothing else like the OBX.You can drive on many sections of beach. Most locals and hardcores have bumper mounted fishing pole holders and usually a cooler mount too.You pull right up to the surf and toss your lines out,set the poles down, and open the cooler It's a most excellent way of life. Some beaches are permit required but there's many places to just hop off the road and hit the sand. September the rates fall. And for low budget folks like myself, there's plenty of excellent campsites. One KOA comes to mind, right on the water....and at least one State Park campsite on the water too.No shortage of cheap places to stay after the summer crowd heads home. In general,OBX has NOT been over developed!! It is still a fairly quiet location with it's pockets of activity mostly at the northern end.You won't be without a Walmart,etc....but you may need to drive awhile to get to it depending on where you stay. Hey,it's only a kick around thread. If it doesn't happen then at least we get folks interested and maybe make a date for next year. Personally,we're in for the busiest summer of our lives right now and don't have the vacation time during the busy season. For us it'll be weekend getaways this year.A fall weekend in OBX would make up for not having one of those week long+ vacations for the kids. I'll even make a pledge. If we can get at least 10 Subarus from at least 4-5 different states I'll do everythnig in my power to drive my '78 down there. We've taken it to Carlisle (300 miles each way) so I'm not chicken to take it to NC.:-p Waves, sand, fishing, hiking, excellent driving roads for constant scenery, off roading, crap for the women like lighthouse tours and crap like that....all in all an excellent location for all members of any family/group. Kick it around.
  22. It's one we've kicked around but never actually had....and might never have. Sorry, just teasing and hoping to raise interest in an ACTUAL EAST COAST MEET on the Outer Banks (OBX) . This year would be most difficult for me to make it.Perhaps a September run, maybe early October....but otherwise totally out of the question for me this summer. Personally,I think it is THE PLACE for an "East of the Missisippi Meet" when we actually get enough interest. Hey,tell ya what....I'll start a kick around thread for late Sept./early Oct. just to see who chimes in and the possibility of making even a small meet happen. To me,just getting to OBX with my son or the whole family for camping, surf action is worth the effort. But I'd rather be there after tourist season when the weather is still excellent (excepting the occasional hurricane). See you in the Meet 'n Greet....
  23. $100 and consider it more likely a parts Brat for the nicer one you'll find right after getting this one.
  24. They're starting high, but they also know that sometimes people act impulsively with too much money in their wallet. If that Brat were here in the NYC area it'd likely sell for $4,500-5,800(USD) on a decent day.But there's too many people here with too much money and the "you only live once" mentality. Low mileage, looks solid. It'll sell, but who knows if there's a local with too much money and a yearing for a Gen I Brat.
  25. Bryan, just wait and one of us will put the correct stripe kit in your hand.At that point you can have it copied for better adhesion. A White walls out like you've got 'em.
