Ready for a New Lesson; Subaru 102
moosens replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Come '77? they dropped the GL. My FSM of June '78 shows no GL in the line up.All "A26,A66,and A67"'s came as either Std.,DL,or the GF hardtop.Excepting the 4WD wagon-no designation at all. Yes,upon checking,'79 brought the GL back if you got a 4WD wagon or Brat. In '77 the coupe was now a DL or an FE so the GL ran in the Coupes from I guess 1972-1975 One FPM shows GL on the coupe in '75 but not in '76. Just going from FSM and FPM's.I don't recall seeing early GL's other than the coupes as a kid. Maybe dealers were allowed to tag them GL's if they sold some options???Just a thought. -
For those who were at Carlisle
moosens replied to RallyKeith's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Keith,Sorry to see that damage.Good luck with it and the rest of the season,if possible. -
Think even higher,I believe. I sold a '76 automatic 2door sedan with 37k on it that now sits restored in Sweden for $2,000 a few years ago. His car looks just as solid and just as shiny.Maybe his interior isn't near museum quality like the one we had,but it looks plenty acceptable. I really regret having to sell that one.Regret not trying a miracle salvage on the '75 4WD wagon...and regret not tucking the '76 GF Coupe away instead of crushing it (56k car!) .....ouch. Oh,yes Andrew,I still regret selling you the '75 too.....you knew that. At least you western folks have a much easier time finding them than we do here. But it's the time now that all the old lady cars will be exposed. You can't let these low mileage beauties go by from this point on.

OBX = Outer Banks of North Carolina. If you've never been there you've been missing the best of the east coast for shoreline. There's nothing else like the OBX.You can drive on many sections of beach. Most locals and hardcores have bumper mounted fishing pole holders and usually a cooler mount too.You pull right up to the surf and toss your lines out,set the poles down, and open the cooler It's a most excellent way of life. Some beaches are permit required but there's many places to just hop off the road and hit the sand. September the rates fall. And for low budget folks like myself, there's plenty of excellent campsites. One KOA comes to mind, right on the water....and at least one State Park campsite on the water too.No shortage of cheap places to stay after the summer crowd heads home. In general,OBX has NOT been over developed!! It is still a fairly quiet location with it's pockets of activity mostly at the northern end.You won't be without a Walmart,etc....but you may need to drive awhile to get to it depending on where you stay. Hey,it's only a kick around thread. If it doesn't happen then at least we get folks interested and maybe make a date for next year. Personally,we're in for the busiest summer of our lives right now and don't have the vacation time during the busy season. For us it'll be weekend getaways this year.A fall weekend in OBX would make up for not having one of those week long+ vacations for the kids. I'll even make a pledge. If we can get at least 10 Subarus from at least 4-5 different states I'll do everythnig in my power to drive my '78 down there. We've taken it to Carlisle (300 miles each way) so I'm not chicken to take it to NC.:-p Waves, sand, fishing, hiking, excellent driving roads for constant scenery, off roading, crap for the women like lighthouse tours and crap like that....all in all an excellent location for all members of any family/group. Kick it around.

It's one we've kicked around but never actually had....and might never have. Sorry, just teasing and hoping to raise interest in an ACTUAL EAST COAST MEET on the Outer Banks (OBX) . This year would be most difficult for me to make it.Perhaps a September run, maybe early October....but otherwise totally out of the question for me this summer. Personally,I think it is THE PLACE for an "East of the Missisippi Meet" when we actually get enough interest. Hey,tell ya what....I'll start a kick around thread for late Sept./early Oct. just to see who chimes in and the possibility of making even a small meet happen. To me,just getting to OBX with my son or the whole family for camping, surf action is worth the effort. But I'd rather be there after tourist season when the weather is still excellent (excepting the occasional hurricane). See you in the Meet 'n Greet.... -
$100 and consider it more likely a parts Brat for the nicer one you'll find right after getting this one.
-
They're starting high, but they also know that sometimes people act impulsively with too much money in their wallet. If that Brat were here in the NYC area it'd likely sell for $4,500-5,800(USD) on a decent day.But there's too many people here with too much money and the "you only live once" mentality. Low mileage, looks solid. It'll sell, but who knows if there's a local with too much money and a yearing for a Gen I Brat.

Bryan, just wait and one of us will put the correct stripe kit in your hand.At that point you can have it copied for better adhesion. A White walls out like you've got 'em.

moosens replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thanks for looking,Bryan. The GLF is technically a "Hardtop",but everyone calls it a coupe. Here's a dark and mysterious photo of the elegant "Lucky le Coupe".:-p No real pillar at the window junction. The rear larger window is power,up and down, not the hinged "pop out" type. The rearmost glass is stationary. -

Hey!! We don't want to hear that!! We thought you Kiwis had plenty of older Subies....maybe on the other island? So anyhow,if you guys really need a hand and want to cover shipping I'm sure one of us will help you out.I've got extra Gen I fenders and there's plenty of hoods around too. Some of us here are hungry for early 70's parts.GSR's wanted! Or even the dual carby set-ups. -

Those '80-84's are next to enter vintage status.Infact you can register an '80 or '81 here right now with no title and need no real inspection,as "antique". Could use a nice center emblem/badge from a 4-spoke steering wheel.I think you can find the badge I want on most GL's from '80-84.The car I need it for is an '82 GLF "coupe".The steering wheel is light brown and the center badge is blue.I want the center badge in mint condition though. The rest of the interior is really sweet in this car.Only has 38 or 39k....turns classic come January! And I'm already emission'd for life. If you come across a rustfree "coupe" that's got the fivespeed manual in it please let me know. I do intend to do some sort of voo doo dance or something with my storage before I actually move.I'm probably going to have to go deep into the mass just to pull out some items I should have never buried. All I can say is stay tuned. -

Great score! I added your request list to our "Wish List" thread in the Historic Forum. I know you're a busy guy and probably don't do much yard hopping, but please consider printing our wish lists and keeping the rest of the community in mind when scouring parts.Especially if you start making some calls to older dealerships to check for any old stock. Might be able to help you on a few items.Right now my life is in storage.:-\ -

Saw my first early Subie yesterday
moosens replied to the_bard's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You wanted to buy everything at one time or another. Patrick PM'd me first, and Andrew was supposed to handle the dealing. He claims to have sent two checks....the rest is recent history. We wanted to buy it months ago too.I hope you understand that as far as we're concerned that car should be here already and should have been at Carlisle, but plans don't always fall into place like you expect. I'm just amazed that you and Andrew have such interest in cars I saw when I was like 11 years old and you guys were like.....still twenty years down the road from birth. -

I talked to your mom over last weekend.I never called her back, sorry.Andrew has his story and I'm sure you have one too.Bottom line is he wants the ff1 for sure and is planning a west coast trip soon. Thanks for keeping it covered.Gotta be some bees in there now,but that's cool. One of us will be talking to you or your mom soon. Thanks, Paul -
Windshield gaskets Batch One ***Completed***

OK,but I'm not sending gaskets without being paid. Jerry, sorry, but I whacked your post. This is not the forum for a group buy for '80-84+++ ,sorry bud.Get one going for the Gen II Brat over in that forum.I think you might not need to though.Has to be a small stash of later produced gaskets out there for those cars.Maybe. -
