Paint Color suggestions for respray 81 Brat
moosens replied to TXJayhawk's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
BS !! Just search for rotors. That’s my opinion , but you may have already tried that. Always can upgrade to 80’s vented disks with a little more searching and a little money- not much. Then you may have an easier time finding rotors in the future. To me items like brakes , rotors , and general consumables I stock up what I can. I’ve already lived the 70’s ownership where you couldn’t get parts from the dealer after 20 years or maybe less. So you tend to stock up when the wall hits you. Sounds like warped rotors to me and maybe now a sticky caliper or two. Find the rebuild kits while they are still out there. Maybe place the items in the guys hands and instruct him to return the removed parts to you. Keep them on their toes. Best of luck with it. Since it’s done so much sitting maybe give the wheel bearings some thought depending on when they were done last. Might as well spend the money right and take care of each corner as best as you can. Bearing , dust seals , brake pads and rotors. Then don’t sweat it for another 100k which you’ll never do anyways now that it’s so classic. All just my opinion. Enjoy ! -

Scott , I hope you mean EA81 and not EA82 Its your business of course but man it would hurt me if you stuck an OHC engine in there. If you do , go EJ not EA. Best of luck with it. Enjoy ! No experience with CCR other than Shawn worked there once upon a time and yeah we played “Willy and the Poor Boys” until we wore the grooves down.

Rebuild kits show up. Brake hone if they’re lightly pitted.

Your bed seatbelts look decent enough to restore but what the other guy mentioned were the vinyl covers that went over those seatbelt coil units. They’re nothing that can’t be made up / copied easily. But you have a lot of work to do before worrying about those. Best of luck with it. My suggestion is get it down to the core and work that body. Brake lines are a big issue at this point too. Plenty to keep you busy for a while. Enjoy the efforts ! -

Cool. Lots of older cars had the info in them. Several of us have those items. Nice that you got them too , especially the window sticker. Sweet ! In 77 and 78 you got those style bolt on centercaps so there’s no emblem in those. -

I’m not sure you could get the four spoke steering wheel in the 77/78 Brat or 4WD wagon. My catalogs are at storage now. Saw your pics in the other post. Looks like a nice base and you have the air deflector. -
Not far from you in Scranton or thereabouts is Carl Porter. He’s like I was in that he’s gathering NOS and mostly has 80’s parts. Find him easier on FB in the Subaru groups like “4x140 or GTFO” , USMB , And Vintage Subaru Parts etc , and another one too - brain farting ... I think he’s here too but not too often.

Should twist out. That nut is welded as I recall.

Have to add , there’s likely still an unfinished TOTAL FIBERGLASS SHELL Brat sitting on a Bronco frame in Massachusetts Subafreak and I witnessed it. Not sure how many hours the guy had into that. He recently resurfaced but I didn’t bother to keep up with him. So yeah , options ...enjoy !- 7 replies

So just thinking that my 78 4WD wagon was the same animal as a Brat and that did NOT have a tach. So maybe 78 they didn’t have them other than for the Coupe or Hardtop. Another one of those things that the parts catalogs make clear. Ancient Chinese proverb: no memory is as clear as faded ink. Although I have owned way too many 1970’s Subarus and Brats in general it’s been a while. -

Hi Warren, a 78 will have quad lights. It’s just blessed that way. In 79 and later you needed the GL trim for the quad lights , am/fm , four spoked steering wheel , and maybe a couple other things I’m not thinking of. But those are the basics. Yes that’s an early SnugTop , keep it well. Trying to locate a shell-to-body gasket is tough but people have made do. If you don’t have a key you can likely get one at a good hardware store. Some will argue but the fact is the Brat started here as a late 1977. Yours might be one. Check the tag for mfg date. Otherwise it’s a 78 from your description. Kind of surprised at the lack of a tach. If you can locate an old parts manual/ catalog it’ll show you all sorts of great info. Check around online. Or search eBay if you want a physical copy. People have gotten pretty stupid with pricing I have to warn you. As I find time I’ll bring a parts catalog home and help you out. But I’m not the only person with them. They printed plenty of copies. As for pics , I’m all used up and need to clear some out. Otherwise I’d post some pics of pages for you. One guy suggested something that works for me. You email yourself the pic you want to post and when you go to send it’ll ask you which size you want to send. Select the smallest or next size up. Just review the size requirements and keep under them. When you open your email just save it. Then you can add that smaller copy here really easily. Enjoy ! Paul -

EA81 part cat. help...Moosens?
moosens replied to Step-a-toe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
6211 08170 for the front for the control arm pivot. 7210 47000 for the rear INNER Outer has two part numbers 7210 47070 and 7210 58060 the latter appears to be for the models the former does not cover. You copy that ? So the latter applies to Brat and wagons as best as I can tell. -
