  1. Emissions is super easy to pass now.Take just about any running Subaru and you'll pass, trust me.I just got my '82 and '89 through with flying colors. Unfortunately if the car is over 25 years old they give it an inspection.25 calender years and it's classic.I'm not sure if they check rust or what, but the usual signal lights,horn,eBrake,etc.. My approach has paid off.I registered my '78 and '82 before they turn vintage. That was all I had to pass was emissions. Now they walk into classic status without needing inspection, not that I couldn't pass with minimal work, but they can be pricks once in awhile.I can tell you a story about a young DOT employee taking an hour and a half to inpesct my motorcycle... Unfortunately the '87 would not qualify,or I'd already have the plate on. That car was registered but I recently let it drop.
  2. Do you have my maroon Stage I fenders?Or did I give you the green '75's? Andrew,I need to speak to you about going to John's Garage....answer your voicemail, please.
  3. Nice shape for $1500? You sinned alright. Now go buy something else to make yourself feel better.
  4. Sorry, not me,but I just want to let you know that several of us in the northeast go to the Pine Barrens for some trail riding once in awhile. Check the Meet-Greet Forum from time to time.Probably won't be there as a group untill springtime. Enjoy the board.
  5. Inquiry not necessary, but thanks.I saw the cracks in the photos, have to look real close or enlarge them.
  6. Well, mine aren't rotted out.How about you Andrew?Jon?Mary?Jesse?Scott?....it's a tough club to join that's for sure. Most losers can't keep these cars going but we managed to find ours, some of which are native cars. Come on,don't throw a wet towel on this.I know what you mean but that sort of stuff is tossed around this board all too often. We're a special group wether lucky or skilled or both.
  7. Trudy, sorry I forgot you.I knew there were others.Of course you're in!! Hey well, let's just keep it a nice community based here untill one or more of us has the knowledge, desire, and time to devote a website to this cause. At least if we get everybody together, then we can feel like our own group rather than just a bunch of dinosaur owners in a stable of young phillies. And,if we can all make it to Carlisle it'll be a blast. We can certainly hold a Northeast/New England Meet as it is.
  8. We need a club for ALL the vintage Subaru owners, not just the Northeast, that's for sure. Todd, you're in,and maybe we should create an internet haven for the vintage Subathusiast.Maybe some of these young folks who are joining us lately can manage to help out. Kick it around. I was hoping that this would inspire a national club or international club as well as getting the small yet growing number of northeast folks together. People are finally starting to appreciate these cars and it's reflected in eBay sales.I'm lucky because when people see my 78's sturdy front bumper and winch they start to take it seriously. It's real NE vintage.Same for a gen I Brat.Too tough to be laughed at.
  9. Spare us the drama oh queen of Witchville.....I did mention that all Brats should be included, but ah,who reads the small details? OK,let's face it,this is the northeast we're talking about here.I think we should automatically indclude XT's and Loyales named Bucky.RX's and Turbo traction wagons too. Justys? :-\
  10. Thanks for the replies everybody. You're all IN as far as I'm concerned. I don't think any of you answered my question, but I think some of you unknowingly gave us the answer.....we'll make it any Subaru 20 years old or more. Ben,watch out,I plan on showing up at Carlisle with a Fudd.
  11. Hmmm,I don't know.....were you from east of Rt.81 or west????? Sure Todd, what vintage Subaru club on the planet wouldn't want you in it??Hey,best part, because it's you, you're in for FREE.
  12. Too cool!!! You're going to have to get an unlisted number there'll be so many girls begging you to take them out. Seriously, that's a very nice ride and it's going to be righteous!
  13. All Subis of WHAT era? There's lots to choose from but personally I prefer a fuel injected model from late '87 through '89 with the dual range 5spd.That's an "on demand" 4WD so you're driving in 2WD untill you manually select 4WD Hi,or Lo. AWD didn't start untill later.I'm not big on AWD so I won't offer any info. Full time 4WD was available in the RX and some turbo wagons in the late 80's.
  14. That's OK,I might be in my '82 coupe instead of my elder cars. We'll see. Main thing is to just try to get everyone to be aware of each other.Help each other as we can.Support each other's habit.
  15. The un-official club.Starting it right here and now. ANY Subaru built before 1981 would be automatically accepted. Brats up to 1981 as well. From here on in it'll be for 25 year old vehicles and older, possible exceptions for Brats of all years since they are a specialty vehicle with collector status already. The way I see it right now it's me,Andrew,Jon,Mary,Jesse,Charlie(non board member),Scott(wagon78)....who am I forgetting? That's at least 7 people who are capable of bringing, with help,at least a dozen vehicles to Carlisle. That is if we had all our vehicles running. I have one question for you all. Do you think we should allow any Subaru over 20 years old instead of 25? Only because up here it's sort of rare to see anything Japanese over 20 years old still on the road. Totally un-official,just for fun,no president,treasurer,etc.....just a bunch of enthusiasts,or Subathusiasts. Think we should start a national club?
  16. Good goin'!! Now,you have to clean them up and sport them at Carlisle or at the very least at a meet somewhere up here.
  17. Keep your panties on sweetheart..... "1. firing order and numbers (where's my number one?); 2. timing, sea level (remind me to disconnect vaccum advance--do I plug the vaccum at the carb?) 3. recommended carb jet size, sea level"-as you asked. #1- 1,3,2,4 and your number one cylinder is the front passenger side.#3 is just aft of that one.#2 leads the way on the port side, and #4 be aft of old number two.As I remember it,your number one on the distributor cap is the one closest to the automatic choke on your carb. Then going COUNTERCLOCKWISE it's 3,2,and then 4. #2- Check to make sure your point gap is corrct before anything else.Disconnect the vacuum hoses of the advancer and retarder from the distributor to stop those functions, and while checking ignition timing, plug the end of the vacuum hoses. 49 states: set to 8deg. +/- 2deg. BTDC @ 850 RPM Cali.: set to same @900 PRM #3- A little blurry, sorry.Let me know if you still can't see what you need. Gawsh,I wish I could get that wagon of yours in AZ.... See ya.
  18. Enjoy!! I did contact the guy,or one of the bunch. He told me that they were sold last week, according to another guy who works there,so I think it's a bunch of knuckleheads at a yard who are in charge of eBaying the parts.I sure would have liked them but I've got no real dough for anything right now.He told me $100 for the set with only one centercap. What kind of deal did you get?I figured Andrew is loaded and he could have scored them for either of us.
  19. YOU got 'em???????!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrew, don't bother going by Michigan......
  20. I used a cantilever from office furniture(panel systems). Call me Bubba. This is the prop shaft that runs front to back. You knew that.
  21. Ended up drilling through and using a nut and bolt combo. Thanks for the replies.
  22. Brat looks great! Somewhere,in a secluded laboratory I'm funding the research for a drug to combat this Subaru obsesive compulsion. You and Andrew will be our test patients. Notice I didn't use the term "disorder".
  23. Thanks guys. It's an '89 GL touring wagon. Well I drilled out with the 21/64 drill but you gotta know I sure didn't hit it square so there's probably going to be an issue there. If need be I'll go next oversize and nut and bolt it.I ran out of daylight.Just got the bearings out,LBJ is still inserted but I'm sure it'll come out in the morning.....I hope.I opened the split up with my chisel, got it soaking with PB. Just one of those jobs that feels like it's taking way too long....mostly because it is! My sister inlaw is playing a ripping show right now on the radio/internet. http://www.wpkn.org/ Listen here: http://www.wpkn.org/ontheair.html She's on 'till 10PM tonight ONLY Rock 'n roll of the purest form.Garage, punk, rockabilly, power pop....from Iggy to Jello and beyond.
