  1. Well I took the axle housing off after a struggle with the LBJ not wanting to exit the control arm. Then I drilled the bolt through using pilot drills as assistants. Finally bored a nearly 1/4 in. hole straight through.Had the PB Blaster soaking.Went to use the turn out bit and yup,it snapped. I'm taking a mental break and eating lunch right now. I don't have my propane torch handy but I'll probably go buy one. I happened to have my helicoil set handy and the tap that matches the LBJ upper bolt is M8 x 1.25,requires 21/64 drill for tapping.
  2. Thanks John!!! I say you should go get that coupe.I know you want one and you're the closest....maybe. Man that light is something beautiful as it strikes that car, isn't it?Makes me want to pack up and leave with camera in hand.
  3. Sounds great.Looking forward to seeing some pictures. I was in western NC a few years back and spotted a '74-76 sedan still running. That's a good area to be in.Anywhere near Boone.
  4. I won't have much easier of a time,I'm sure.I'll have to get some heat on the axle housing and squirt some PB Blaster in there.Wait, soak again.Wait, heat, and try to turn it with the "easy" out. Thanks guys.
  5. THanks Shawn,I thought some of them came with the bolt. But I bought quick at Auto Zone and settled for the one cheapy they had in stock.I think I'll hunt down the Moog and take the cheapy back. Should be fun.The weather is quickly turning "New England winter".Snow for T'day....and me lying on the ground working on a wagon.I might go balls out and take the whole axle housing off. Then go inside and work comfortably for a short while.
  6. Weather permitting I'll be drilling out the broken upper bolt that goes into the axle housing on an EA82 car. What size bolt is that? And the thread pitch too, please. Just had an idea.Maybe I'll remove the whole housing and take it to work where I can drill it out easier. Also I can then apply heat and penetrant, hoping it turns out instead of having to drill it out completely. That is a sleeved bolt, right?I'm pretty sure there's no threads where it contacts the ball joint. As I recall they're threaded only about 3/4 of an inch, sound right? Any locals with a spare bolt or housing? Weather is about to turn sucky. But I really need this car back on the road by Monday. Thanks for any help.
  7. I'll do my best to make it. So,you're looking for 1974 and earlier but would accept a '75-79?? Did I read that right?
  8. FRont wheels all the time, rear wheels when 4WD is engaged.
  9. ...something like that.I somehow managed,or was that mangled...? But still hey 50 miles on a shot CV,well that's something to clink glasses over.
  10. Hey,didn't we talk about this?I'm interested.I've got plenty of songs to offer.
  11. Oh wait a minute now.You guys are going to go back to your first cars?? I'd have a list that'd blow you guys away(Todd and very few others excepted). For starters,1974 coupe,'76 sedan,77 four door,77 sedan,78Brat,75 wagon,77 wagon,78?GF,78?FE..... When we get settled into our next place I'm going through all my old pictures and you guys will have a good laugh.
  12. Oh gosh,I'll need to do some research.I think I got the '78 in 1999 or 2000. The '73 arrived this year.
  13. Get the engine!!!Higher compression pistons. They were indeed a blast to drive. Heads are there own animal, similar to the rest of the line from the outside. Camshaft is different too. Get the engine, please. If the ignition switch has a key and works you might want to get that too.Same for external voltage regulator for those wanting to stay stock. What color interior?
  14. Wow,yours must be one of a handfull in Alabama.Do you see any others still around? Welcome!
  15. Jesse showed us that an 18v cordless impact gun does it with no stopper. But since it's in the car just drop a punch into one of the holes on the flywheel.Helps to have one that's a little bent. When I pull an engine I drill a hole through the bell housing so my punch can drop straight down into the hole.Ooooo, dats nice n solid.Don't need no stinking stopper then. Besides,Gary is right.Seems nobody wants to let those go.Old mechanics are buried with them, according to legend.
  16. Cell phone will be on.I'll be in Stamford all day, then maybe going to Brad's over the Tappan Zee Br. if you go 287. Hope you don't even need me.Good luck and watch out,I'll be out there driving. So,what's going on here?Delivery of Brat to Lebanon?? I like Lebby, nice little blue collar town.Good diner there!
  17. Check the 360 club? I'm sure one guy here will chime in soon.
  18. Nah,there really isn't too much around. The guy in E.Hampton has a few vintage Subarus. What I need to have happen is to get into our next home, which will be a house with a garage. Then I can settle up with the loose end vehicles I've had my sights on for the last few years.Basically that'd be the E.Hampton guy, some rotting 74's in an old guy's yard,a '78 or 79 wagon not far from here, and there's a couple long distance ones too.Of the close ones, only the '75 coupe is currently roadworthy and not rotted. But I last saw it at least 2 years ago,so maybe that one isn't so hot anymore either. We'll get you hooked up.Really, the best thing to do is find a dry zone car with a 98-100% solid body and pay the man for transport.I hate to brag but I'm probably the only person with a true CT vintage Subaru.Mine was rustproofed properly when new apparently. There are some original 360's in CT but heck, those things sit in hallways and closets most of their life. Whatever you do,just keep anything vintage Subaru away from WagonsOnly!! Actually, although admittedly warped,we're a good little bunch of vintage Subathusiasts. And the numbers have shot up over the last two years for interest in vintage Subarus in the northeast. At one time only about 3+ years ago there was only Scotty and myself with our '78 4WD wagons.Quick northeast vintage headcount while inhibiting sleep deprivation: Me-2 cars Scott K-2 cars Andrew-2 cars not counting 360's Jesse-2 but selling one Mary-1 Jon-rotating inventory My freind in E.hampton-at least 3 cars, two are parts only so he says. Not much else that I've heard of.
  19. I thought we were going to copy these?Galen, didn't you say you had a friend.....etc.?? I'd love to have the '80-84 air dam back for my coupe.
  20. Not only have I not forgotten that........I haven't gotten it yet!! Andrew, the guy with the $40,000 worth of vintage wagons still hasn't put that and some other items in my hands......but that's another story. We'll get together soon and I'll be sure to rob somebody for the $20 between now and then.
  21. Instant wheel chock! Way to go Mick.Sparks flying around an aging EA81.....eeeeek!
  22. You,post hijacker!!!! Email me or call.Remember my number?
