  1. Thanks for the replies everybody. You're all IN as far as I'm concerned. I don't think any of you answered my question, but I think some of you unknowingly gave us the answer.....we'll make it any Subaru 20 years old or more. Ben,watch out,I plan on showing up at Carlisle with a Fudd.
  2. Hmmm,I don't know.....were you from east of Rt.81 or west????? Sure Todd, what vintage Subaru club on the planet wouldn't want you in it??Hey,best part, because it's you, you're in for FREE.
  3. Too cool!!! You're going to have to get an unlisted number there'll be so many girls begging you to take them out. Seriously, that's a very nice ride and it's going to be righteous!
  4. All Subis of WHAT era? There's lots to choose from but personally I prefer a fuel injected model from late '87 through '89 with the dual range 5spd.That's an "on demand" 4WD so you're driving in 2WD untill you manually select 4WD Hi,or Lo. AWD didn't start untill later.I'm not big on AWD so I won't offer any info. Full time 4WD was available in the RX and some turbo wagons in the late 80's.
  5. That's OK,I might be in my '82 coupe instead of my elder cars. We'll see. Main thing is to just try to get everyone to be aware of each other.Help each other as we can.Support each other's habit.
  6. The un-official club.Starting it right here and now. ANY Subaru built before 1981 would be automatically accepted. Brats up to 1981 as well. From here on in it'll be for 25 year old vehicles and older, possible exceptions for Brats of all years since they are a specialty vehicle with collector status already. The way I see it right now it's me,Andrew,Jon,Mary,Jesse,Charlie(non board member),Scott(wagon78)....who am I forgetting? That's at least 7 people who are capable of bringing, with help,at least a dozen vehicles to Carlisle. That is if we had all our vehicles running. I have one question for you all. Do you think we should allow any Subaru over 20 years old instead of 25? Only because up here it's sort of rare to see anything Japanese over 20 years old still on the road. Totally un-official,just for fun,no president,treasurer,etc.....just a bunch of enthusiasts,or Subathusiasts. Think we should start a national club?
  7. Good goin'!! Now,you have to clean them up and sport them at Carlisle or at the very least at a meet somewhere up here.
  8. Keep your panties on sweetheart..... "1. firing order and numbers (where's my number one?); 2. timing, sea level (remind me to disconnect vaccum advance--do I plug the vaccum at the carb?) 3. recommended carb jet size, sea level"-as you asked. #1- 1,3,2,4 and your number one cylinder is the front passenger side.#3 is just aft of that one.#2 leads the way on the port side, and #4 be aft of old number two.As I remember it,your number one on the distributor cap is the one closest to the automatic choke on your carb. Then going COUNTERCLOCKWISE it's 3,2,and then 4. #2- Check to make sure your point gap is corrct before anything else.Disconnect the vacuum hoses of the advancer and retarder from the distributor to stop those functions, and while checking ignition timing, plug the end of the vacuum hoses. 49 states: set to 8deg. +/- 2deg. BTDC @ 850 RPM Cali.: set to same @900 PRM #3- A little blurry, sorry.Let me know if you still can't see what you need. Gawsh,I wish I could get that wagon of yours in AZ.... See ya.
  9. Enjoy!! I did contact the guy,or one of the bunch. He told me that they were sold last week, according to another guy who works there,so I think it's a bunch of knuckleheads at a yard who are in charge of eBaying the parts.I sure would have liked them but I've got no real dough for anything right now.He told me $100 for the set with only one centercap. What kind of deal did you get?I figured Andrew is loaded and he could have scored them for either of us.
  10. YOU got 'em???????!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrew, don't bother going by Michigan......
  11. I used a cantilever from office furniture(panel systems). Call me Bubba. This is the prop shaft that runs front to back. You knew that.
  12. Ended up drilling through and using a nut and bolt combo. Thanks for the replies.
  13. Brat looks great! Somewhere,in a secluded laboratory I'm funding the research for a drug to combat this Subaru obsesive compulsion. You and Andrew will be our test patients. Notice I didn't use the term "disorder".
  14. Thanks guys. It's an '89 GL touring wagon. Well I drilled out with the 21/64 drill but you gotta know I sure didn't hit it square so there's probably going to be an issue there. If need be I'll go next oversize and nut and bolt it.I ran out of daylight.Just got the bearings out,LBJ is still inserted but I'm sure it'll come out in the morning.....I hope.I opened the split up with my chisel, got it soaking with PB. Just one of those jobs that feels like it's taking way too long....mostly because it is! My sister inlaw is playing a ripping show right now on the radio/internet. http://www.wpkn.org/ Listen here: http://www.wpkn.org/ontheair.html She's on 'till 10PM tonight ONLY Rock 'n roll of the purest form.Garage, punk, rockabilly, power pop....from Iggy to Jello and beyond.
  15. Well I took the axle housing off after a struggle with the LBJ not wanting to exit the control arm. Then I drilled the bolt through using pilot drills as assistants. Finally bored a nearly 1/4 in. hole straight through.Had the PB Blaster soaking.Went to use the turn out bit and yup,it snapped. I'm taking a mental break and eating lunch right now. I don't have my propane torch handy but I'll probably go buy one. I happened to have my helicoil set handy and the tap that matches the LBJ upper bolt is M8 x 1.25,requires 21/64 drill for tapping.
  16. Thanks John!!! I say you should go get that coupe.I know you want one and you're the closest....maybe. Man that light is something beautiful as it strikes that car, isn't it?Makes me want to pack up and leave with camera in hand.
  17. Sounds great.Looking forward to seeing some pictures. I was in western NC a few years back and spotted a '74-76 sedan still running. That's a good area to be in.Anywhere near Boone.
  18. I won't have much easier of a time,I'm sure.I'll have to get some heat on the axle housing and squirt some PB Blaster in there.Wait, soak again.Wait, heat, and try to turn it with the "easy" out. Thanks guys.
  19. THanks Shawn,I thought some of them came with the bolt. But I bought quick at Auto Zone and settled for the one cheapy they had in stock.I think I'll hunt down the Moog and take the cheapy back. Should be fun.The weather is quickly turning "New England winter".Snow for T'day....and me lying on the ground working on a wagon.I might go balls out and take the whole axle housing off. Then go inside and work comfortably for a short while.
  20. Weather permitting I'll be drilling out the broken upper bolt that goes into the axle housing on an EA82 car. What size bolt is that? And the thread pitch too, please. Just had an idea.Maybe I'll remove the whole housing and take it to work where I can drill it out easier. Also I can then apply heat and penetrant, hoping it turns out instead of having to drill it out completely. That is a sleeved bolt, right?I'm pretty sure there's no threads where it contacts the ball joint. As I recall they're threaded only about 3/4 of an inch, sound right? Any locals with a spare bolt or housing? Weather is about to turn sucky. But I really need this car back on the road by Monday. Thanks for any help.
  21. I'll do my best to make it. So,you're looking for 1974 and earlier but would accept a '75-79?? Did I read that right?
  22. FRont wheels all the time, rear wheels when 4WD is engaged.
  23. ...something like that.I somehow managed,or was that mangled...? But still hey 50 miles on a shot CV,well that's something to clink glasses over.
  24. Hey,didn't we talk about this?I'm interested.I've got plenty of songs to offer.
