  1. So far,so good.......no gall stones. As for the brake adjuster,I took it in the house and with my Gigantor channel locks held it over the stove and loosened it up. Auto Zone was absolutely no help either.I stopped by tonight for some PB Blaster and just to see if they had any adjuster at all. They didn't even show an adjuster and the guy checked all over the computer.Amazing!
  2. A quick search and I'm coming up with NOTHING available from the online idiot stores.I was unable to get the Subaru parts dot com folks,"cannot find server"...any ideas?
  3. You cover my end and I'll even let you drive it on "my" days. Somebody has to unearth an ff-1 here in the states that can actually be driven. We do need to meet at my friend's place and drool over his '71.I still haven't made the call to see if we can meet up there.Might have to make it next year.
  4. I need a rear brake adjuster.......you knew that.......and was wondering just how stupid of a look the kid at Advanced Auto or similar is going to give me when I ask for a rear brake adjuster for a 1978 Subaru 4WD wagon. While we're at it,are the EA82's the same as well? Thanks
  5. Lots of interest......no money to cover the shipping.
  6. The relay I had to swap (for blower motor) is a metal cylinder located left of the steering wheel under the dash.I believe the blower motor relay is the one with the large diameter blue wires going to it.Check the prongs when you pull the relays off.If it's shorted one of the prongs will be burnt.
  7. That price is amazing. Is it showing up at your door or do you have to pick it up? I agree, that's the real way to go.Start with the most solid body/structure you can get.
  8. Ray,Despite what my email said, that '75 is probably still available. It's sort of on hold for me,but let me talk to him about it. I saw it geez, must be two years ago at least, and it was fairly solid, but had surface rust underside. Not really a typical CT waste, but it'll need a rotiserie job because you'll want to freshen up the underside.Solid enough rockers to work from and the unibody front horns were solid at the low curve. It was in a garage then, but I don't think it was kept indoors all of the time since,so who knows what the condensation did or didn't do. I think we all need to meet at this guys place.Best solution.I'll make the arrangements, you guys hang tight. He has an ff-1 wagon that runs and drives, the '75 coupe,a couple, etc. '78-9 wagons and sedans, and lots of EA81 vehicles, and right up to the Legacy.
  9. No owner's manual to refer to? Tranny-Dexron-the red stuff. Front dif.-I've used Castrol,Quaker State,etc.....depends on your temperature. For you,I guess 85W,check around at the auto parts store,etc... Brakes-same deal,I've used the better of the common brands.Never use Walmart B/S,NEVER!!! I'd say you don't need any "special" fluids.
  10. Those look fabulous. How much was shipping? Maybe I can get Santa to cover one for me.
  11. FAR ABOVE, LEFT: The Subaru's "engine room" now accommodates the main drive motor, several batteries, and various system controls. ABOVE, LEFT: The engine and generator fit comfortably in the trunk. ABOVE, RIGHT: MOM's hybrid hits the road! http://www.motherearthnews.com/library/1980_September_October/Mother_s_Own_Hybrid_Car_ http://www.motherearthnews.com/Alternative_Energy/1993_June_July/1993_Update__Dave_Arthur_s_Amazing_Hybrid_Electric_Car
  12. Wow,this past weekend would have been perfect, but oh well.Subaru and us folks were made for lousy weather anyways. Gas I can charge, and I can lunchbox the day through,so I'm able to swing the ride any Saturday except this one.A Sunday might work too,but Saturday is probably best for everyone. Kick it around.
  13. Possibly going to PA to pick up the turbo wagon...Sunday.Details may or may not follow. Can't do Saturday and I'm slummin' for dough for the yards anyway.
  14. I'll gladly retrieve it in NJ at the docks. somebody just pay for it for me.........waaaaaagh!!!!
  15. Hatchsub, I was just in Guilford yesterday and will probably go back up this week, maybe even tomorrow night. There's a free '87 EA82 but it has the carb.,not SPFI.If you'd like anything that I don't want you're welcome to it.Can't yank the engine or tranny unless you're superquick. My tow guy friend hates to waste time.Outside chance you could follow us back and get anything large out of it,but we can't do it in Guilford. The car is an '87 GL wagon with the D/R 5spd.Engine runs but was a little oily and not what I'd call excellent....but it ran.Exhaust leaks, interior had wicked mildew smell.
  16. I'll be tossing something together for an EA82 wagon soon. Check dumpsters at office parks for drawer slides, pulls, etc. if you're looking for ultra cheap/free materials. Personally,I'm going to make a pull out work bench that'll have a fold down support leg and be able to handle a miter saw.I'm going to make the rear cargo area pretty much all wood with side boxes,etc......someday.
  17. The engine would be nice for any 76-79 owner!! There might be a slight change from '78 to '79 since there's a different part number for the '79. FE's are a fine example of what the industry SHOULD have been doing for the last 25 years. The engine is an EA71,for sure. Is the carpet blue too?
  18. Anyone even remotely interested who has space to keep it should serously look into this.Fuel Efficient, simple to work on,brakes are same as EA81,the list goes on.And the engine can always be passed on to any other vintage owner. Thanks for posting,Shawn.
  19. Yup,that's him.Tom in VA got the wagon. Not sure where it is now.
  20. Coolski, thanks!! As for the turbo wagon,I'd need to do it on the weekend for sure.I'll even drive up and meet the car, then call the next AAA haul out and drive along with them to B'port. Talk to you soon.
  21. Wondering if your so toast on your birthday that you forgot about this one. Where's Rory these days?Did you run into him at his shop? Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
