Also, there is a guy who still sometimes pops in on the board who had a Subaru engined trike built here in CT.I believe the guy who built it also comes by this board once in a great while,or has at least once.Kind of like Jerry's friend where they used an EA81 but I think this one used a 2WD Automatic,if I recall correctly. Here's his avatar- "dritchie" is his board name. He'd have some advice for you too. Here's the full size shot: Here's some post threads Don (dritchie) started: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24179 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19011 Good luck.Let us know how you do with it.

Anybody drive their 360?
moosens replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
There's an elderly man who does drive his sedan here.Other than people reporting of them,I doubt there's any 360 driver's here on this board. -
Rory is a board member and an excellent guy!! He lifted an '84 wagon before ever even finding this board. He's a true Suba-rebel.And he throws one heck of an annual bash!!!Connie can probably hear it from her house. Connie,I was right by your house twice lately and still didn't come by to get the fender. But it was getting late so I didn't want to disturb you.Last night I was in Bethel untill 2:30AM helping my buddy get the baby's room ready.Mom and baby come home today!!!I hung some doors and helped out with little details. It's a little too late and money too tight to give Rory some work right now,but for sure I'll be thinking about him as the man to go to come springtime. Connie,I'm wondering if I/we can ask a favor of you.Once upon a time,Andrew and I went to retrieve a car from PA.Andrew balked and the car is in Scranton. We'd like to have AAA pick it up and drop in at your place for just a few hours.(within the 100 miles my AAA Plus account allows). Then we'll call AAA for the second run down to my house.I meant to call you but I was sick most of yesterday and then life got in the way. If your place isn't good, maybe you can recommend a spot.We need to cover that 100miles and Danbury is right about the limit.Talk to you soon.

Hmm,the diet part I'm almost a twin to.But I need to actually workout instead of calling working hard all day a workout. And I can see myself getting into the vino soon. For now, only on occassion. No hard liquor for me either. We have buffalo, looks great, only had it a couple of times. Is most buffalo grass fed?? Sorry to go off thread, really. My friend recently took the Quiznos plunge (opened a franchise).Better menu than most places, for sure. OK,what the heck was this thread about again??? http://www.statravel.com/Statravel/...x?MenuID=1003S3 Yeah, check them folks out,Bubba, you'll git yer arse out of Memphis yet. 20 more years to 62.Hope I'm half as cool as Smitty at that age.Kawabunga!
-
George,Would you mind telling us what your diet and fitness routines are?I want to be shredding when I'm 62 as well. Of all the folks I've met and gotten to know through this board I'd have to put you as #1 of folks who's lifestyle I appreciate the most. You ski,you shred, you love life and it shows.Good for you, man!!!! Cheers!

I asked a long time Subaru mechanic who said lots of soaking, sometimes heat, and almost always a pain in the butt.

EA-82 Heater core - in-car cleaning?
moosens replied to stephenw22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Somewhere in the archives should be my post on doing the EA82 heatercore swap. You'll love it if you need it.You can do the whole deal in 4 hours if you follow my directions.I hope it's an easier fix than that but should you need the swap....... If there's no leak, don't swap it,flush it. -
It's been around for awhile, but thanks for posting it.There's a lot of new folks in the old school now.Probably at least a couple who haven't seen the rising sun racer.

Protecting NOS gen 1 body panels
moosens replied to SUBARU3's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Wow,that's a nice score.Any others around? Something with a really hard glossy coat.I guess an epoxy paint thinned out some.I doubt using it straight would be easy.I think it'll be a lot easier to spread around thinned out.And you'll avoid creating a resistance around the drain holes...just my thought. The reason my Zeibart'd '78 is still around is because they did the drain holes right.Too many cars held water, well, you know that, who am I talking to here? -

What to do with a tourning wagon?
moosens replied to WoodsWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, they're all worth more to us because we're whacked out on Subaru, man. Seriously,my touring wagon cost $200 needing timing belts and an axle. That car has taken us on family vacations, gone off roading several times including the infamous nose in the air photo.. ...then it's helped move people, including myself, and still runs excellent even though my sister inlaw drives it. So,I'd say any SPFI wagon with dual range 4WD is worth the $500 or so. Hey,how about that one on eBay right now??Shooooey, boy, tell you what, that'd be for me if I had the green.Sccccccchhhhhhhhwwwwwweeeeeeeet!!!!!! There's been quite a few folks over the years that have commented favorably about the touring wagons of '89 and '90....because they really are a nice car for a boxy Subaru of the late 80's. -

Really not that hard. Now go get that '75 wagon!! -
If you have $300 and the time and place to keep it you CAN'T go wrong. Enjoy life, you're going to die someday.Cheers!

73 parts request post here
moosens replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I need the rocker dress trim, driver's side mirror, bumper guards (front of course),also need the little seem covers on the rain gutter trim-or even the trim too if it's really really nice or any one piece even if the set is not complete. You know how to remove that without damaging it,right?Real carefully. I'd like to have as much 1400 engine/exhaust parts as as still good and worth keeping-provided you don't snag them up.I'm still not sure that my '73 will be a 1400,but I should at least attempt to go for a true resto before upgrading. Also could use the antenea if it's 100%. Talk to you soon. -

new oil pump seals don't always fix the problem.
moosens replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Standard Operating Procedure all the way.You HAVE to punch it to get the pressure to fill that last lifter in the train. At least all my EA82's were that way. -
How's this for a historic Sube ??

Well, actually it all works but it has that 6speed double kick feel in the lower gear exchange. The 2nd-to-3rd gearshift is smooth and it's only one shift, not the double kick like the 1-to-2 exchange does. Downshifting is now much beter and I think the big-late kickdown when approaching a full stop is just about gone.At least I didn't notice it the last times I drove it. No reason to feel bad.The car drives really great.Just got back from Naugatuck, hits 75+ on the highway.Feel good about that, girl!! No more smoking car!!!!Feel good about that too!! I'll give it my best shot!,thanks!! Bottom line:Car is a pleasure to drive.Being 24 years old (the car) I should be thankful it delivers every bit of efficiency that it does. And for the amount of cash spent from the eBay purchase to date is so little when you consider what other cars have cost me.

Bump....my son is asking all the time.....at least I can drop the gas on the plastic and bring a lunch to this,so anytime you guys want to get together....just kicking it around again. Some Saturday, before mid November for sure. Kick in your best date.Let's hope we get a good little group, what happens, happens.I know I'll be there, brownbag and all.

Diaphram rod,as my FSM shows it,stayed in,same for the O-ring. That's right Pat,it must be the remainder because I sure wasn't about to do it the 100% correct way at that time.I think I'm going to just do another Sea Foam douche and see how that does.Yes,it does look like the color of what came out with the flush. So far I'm not inclined to do the pan drop/filter swap/band adjust If the weather stays fair I might get to that but right now time is tough to gather in quantity. I might take it for a power flush, but again, time and money are restricting. As long as it goes I tend to not stop and make more work for myself. Thanks for the response. Added:I just got back from a quick ride and it runs great but does still have the "6 speed" feel in the lower gear exchange. Dipstick shows a healthy,semi-clear blue fluid. That crap is sitting on the bottom, somewhat.I know it'll circulate, but probably holding up the valves...right Pat?Almost makes me want to make the time or pay the man to drop that pan, clean the valves, heck I already have a fresh screen and gasket...:-\

1982 GLF coupe. Previously changed tranny fluid after using Sea Foam's tranny cleanser product just a few weeks ago, before the wrath of rain.Anyhow,I added B & M Trick Shift, just because it helped me once before. The stuff is light blue in color.Keep that in mind. Then this week I noticed I was down a little fluid so I added a quart of red tranny fluid. So now the color should be mostly bluish, probably slightly purple, right? Well, when I removed the modulator some brownish fluid came out of the tranny. Is this typical, because the diaphram when ruptured allows oil in? Or do you think I should flush it again because what I saw was what didn't make it out the first time?I know that usually when you pull the hose off the modulator you'll see some oil if it was bad.Is this just that same oil or do you think it's sediment that finally broke loose or was just missed by the first cleaner? Only about 1/2 cup of fluid came out. Good news is that the modulator did make a difference in shifting as it should.I'll have to check tomorrow to see if it's not going to smoke anymore. It shouldn't.

Most reliable Subaru engine?
moosens replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Same opinion here with a slight edge to the simplicity of the EA71. Personal opinion is that there should be an EA71 with SPFI available right now.But that ain't happenin'. -

moosens replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Nice idea!! Who'd going to crawl under the next Acura CL they see?Regardless,I'm sure something can be done. All it takes it time and money.
