Gee,I thought for a minute there that I'd be driving to Subaru of Americaland for a free "hatchback". Congrats! That's a "3door",not the "hatchback",just so you know. There's other folks around here that get real funny about that. The real hatchback has the EA81 engine, which is O/H valve-no timinng belts,it's gear driven. The 3door has the big glass hatch and the EA82 engine, which you are now very familiar with. Way to go!Now go to Lumbertown tomorrow and meet Subaru's greatest Rally driver. Cheers!

moosens replied to LeakingOil's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGG!!!! I'll try. Edit:not looking good unless I can blow out of work early. Luckily, the big guy has booked out for the weekend as of tonight so it might be possible. Dave,if you're going, call me and let me know.I'm thinking if I make it it'll be pushing 7:30PM or so. I should have my son with me,I hope. He's very excited about the whole thing. -
Whos Got the Most Miles
moosens replied to Bobby_boucher's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Said it before but I'll say it again. There's a professor near here, just over the line in NY,who claims to have over 1,500,000 miles on his 4WD wagon, which I believe is a 1982.His wife came out and verified it.He's taught all over the country and Europe. When he taught here it was schools like U of FL,Mich. State,etc..... all long hauls which he's make every Sunday to and every Friday from. He'd get home, pull in the garage and drain the oil.Go in,kiss the wife and proceed to finish the oil change. He also has a Hatchback with well over 450,000 and the original engine and components on the engine. Coolest educator I've ever met.He also has a couple of micro cars and a few other really cool items. I asked him to pass his story along to Subaru, but I don't read "Drive" or any other publications Subaru puts on regularly.Maybe he did,you folks tell me. -
Congrats, and yes there's still interest, but the cost of shipping is holding me back.I've got the FL wagon to get to first.Man,I wish I could just get that wagon too, right now.The body looks great.

The unofficial, kick the can around post. Let's get some ideas and dates tossed around. So far it's looking like mid September.Let's beat the leaf peepers. So far Burke Mtn.,VT has been mentioned. I'm hoping we can get an offroading spot for those of us willing to go in.Like the Pine Barrens Meets, you can always leave you car in a lot and go in as a passenger with a fellow Subathusiast.Let's make sure we ca find a place to suit parking and pleasure. Are we 100% sure there's auto trails near Burke?

Anybody ever try Maquire's? http://www.superiorcarcare.net/meg40vinrubc.html I know the RR will clean the best but I'm also wondering about protection from the sun, weather, etc. -

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! When I was a a typewriter tech (trained with IBM) I used pretty much the same stuff!! I'll go by the shop and see the old snot that used to be my boss. We did use trichloralethane (sp?) which really is bad stuff too,for most parts and especially the platen which over time became built up with typewriter ink. I did a quick Google search and came up with this: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWE,RNWE:2005-11,RNWE:en&q=Rubber+Rejuvenator ...as soon as I saw the word "platen" I was taken back to my electromechanical daze...... Let's see the results, please.Weather stripping results?? Thanks Mary. -
Plenty of them here. Just not many folks keep them as long as I do.

How about we all get our needs/wants listed in a manner that's easy to print and take with us during our parts hunting? Suggestion- BE SURE TO MENTION THE YEAR MODEL,COLORS,ENGINE (if your car was made in a multi engine year,i.e.:1976 1400 and 1600cc....) There's been a decent increase in vintage Subaru ownership lately. To date we've all treated each other very well, overall.Let's hope the lists don't cause any arguments when items double over onto your friend's list. Right now there's at least 3 people who'd risk jail time to get a mint condition blue dash for a '78-9 4WD wagon or Brat. Please, please, please consider not buying items you already have in cases where someone else REALLY needs that item.Let folks have runners before you stock a shelf.

Welcome! ...and on that note of yours,I will be posting about trying to help each other with their "wish lists". Good luck with your search. One will be up for sale soon,I'm sure.

mmmmmmmm somewhat they help. Thanks Yes Pat,I'm looking for stuff like the bracket mounting as well.I haven't felt this lost on a Subaru project in years. I guess I need to just git my butt down to the car and start hammering it out too.I always tend to work better if I have a good visual.Hopefully I can score that nice 'n cheap Turbo wagon in PA this weekend and all my troubles with my current T-wagon will be solved.

Oh,and I think I took the only brochure the dealer had!
-
Saw two on the road. Went today to the dealer for parts, went to the showroom, walked around it,salesguys started over to talk to me as I looked at the sticker price and let out a big laugh!!They walked away just as fast as I did. $37,000++++++!!!!! A very nice ride indeed, but $37k is too much.Wiper warmers, all sorts of buttons to push, optional leather, big old seats for fat keyster Americans-the '78 seats do me fine. Last night I had the '78 at a drive in place in high falootin' Darien.Guy pulls up in a Tripuka,or beca...doesn't even notice what he parked next to.A true yuppie scum.My '78 looked quite "dwarfy" next to that 'beca.
-
Sounds like it won't help me too much with interior parts. If you go back please check the passenger side fender and the other exterior parts I mentioned. Just the FSCR location is closed, the spirit lives on.My '78 is my daily driver right now so any help is really appreciated.I've got a rusted wagon to get to down here as well. Not going to be too easy without a real place to do it at.

Looking for the right routing of such things as the clutch cable, hill holder cable, accelerator cable.... Also, the A/C and alternator bracketry/config. I've been away from this engine for a year, pretty much.My late 80's FSM's are unavailable at this time. Any pics would be great. My car is a 1987 Turbo 4WD 5spd wagon with the pushbutton on-demand 4WD.
