Haven’t found a good manual for you yet. -
EA82T ECU Tuning Options
moosens replied to SiriusBlack's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
But that’s an out of pocket expense. Don’t get me wrong , if you really want it on the road right you spend the money. But limping it along stock-ish on a budget ain’t so uncool. I’m a dinosaur who drives mechanical dinosaurs so pardon that perspective. -
EA82T ECU Tuning Options

CTS , find a genuine one if you can. If you haven’t needed one yet chances are good you will if you keep the EA82T Had the whole set of hoses at one time but no longer do. That foil wrapped one at the turbo , that’s one that’ll cause issues. All those pre-formed hoses, find what you can. And lots of archived info on intercoolers. Closed air system, keep it tight. -
In the old days I bent that EGR pipe with pliers and squeezed it down well enough that it didn’t wheeze. Little duct tape over the end for added security. My current situation will happen soon but it’s not so critical because for once in the past 25 years or so I have a garage to work out of with no need to rush out. Haven’t yet scored my M20x1.5 tap and drill set just yet but hoping to at least have the engine out later today or tomorrow. Pardon my personal news within this thread please.

custom lift kit blueprints

Nothing like DIY I know but just want to suggest SJR lift kits. He’s a long time one of us and dedicated to his craft. You won’t find a legitimate complaint about Scott or his SJR products. -
Yeah that pic sucked. It’s made in Japan so it can’t be all that bad , right ? And how does such a device work anyways ? I felt something want to move like a valve lever but all remained dry. Almost no time to play today and I tried to cram in some work while exhausted and it getting dark etc. pardon the excuses. But I figured I’d abandon that sucker and come back stronger the next round.

Any other issues like surging throttle ? One thing to watch for is the black plastic breaking down and sucking bits into the carby. Likely not your issue now but given it’s age I’d keep an eye on that and actually take the ASV apart and check the metal flapper too. Again , may not be related to your current issue. But my 86 gave similar issues at one time and later as described above found the plastic saucer disintegrating.

Newbie from the land Down Under

Welcome ! Sadly , many folks don’t use this great forum as much these days due to face boo I hit a few Subaru groups there and don’t waste any time if possible. Personally I use it but also can’t stand it at times. More family friendly here for sure. And much much much less moronic behavior issues. Best of luck with the Brumby. Still find it funny and yet somewhat annoying that your market continued to receive the MPV into the 90’s when ours ended in 87. Enjoy the board. Several of us have parts catalogs and service manuals and decades of user knowledge. Just may have to be patient with less traffic when seeking answers. Cheers ! -
Are the EGR cars of that generation only as of 2003 models ? To me it seems they had no EGR at the start of that generation but added it in 2003. Yes ? Can I take a non EGR engine and easily drill and tap the EGR in ? Or can I use the non EGR engine and also swap the computer and harness ? There’s a 124k 2000 or 2001 wagon that is needing a front clip but I’d rather not do all that work and just use that engine in my 2003.

1981 DL 1800 wiring help
moosens replied to OldieSubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hang on , plenty of us folks have the actual factory service manuals. They can be had fairly cheap if you hunt around a little. Mine are boxed up but I am in the process of creating a library so they’ll be out sometime over the summer. And an 83 isn’t much different so the wiring will be the same. As long as they aren’t both Brats , then an 83 is different from an 81 for sure. -

If I can easily do it I’ll post up some pics of the factory wiring diagram. Things have been awful funny with my attempting to get pics stored and posted lately. -
Yeah at this point it’s take whatever if there and make the best of it. I’ll be breaking down a similar gen one Brat soon. Up here there simply won’t be any more coming through. The ones I recall seeing and passing on because the owners thought they had some stack of gold there we all POS back then. I can’t imagine how returned to earth they are now. Same story for a guy two towns over with his 1974’s. I wish I had pictures. I think one wagon was already up to it’s doors and sinking. Ahh the stories ...

Thanks , hopefully I’m correct more than I am with the newer cars. Might not have been me if it was the last 6 months or so. I pretty much have stayed away from selling on eBay and in general. When they started to go direct into your account I backed off until I start a separate account for ebay only. And Danny from NC has officially “cleaned me out” sort of with my 1970’s stock. I sure do still have some but pretty much going to consider much of it consumables for my future wagon. But I’m still kickin ‘ lol Once some things blow by I’ll be taking on another 78 4WD wagon.

Yes , Absolutely! And it’s now been passed along. Never got to run it. I thought about keeping it. Actually had I think three set ups maybe one was 1400 or 1800. The dream was to have my 73 Coupe with one like a GSR and the wagon with a dual range and twin carbs. Dream has subsided. On to new dreams. Hope you’re doing well. Any newer Subies ?
