  1. I also use a big rump roast "Johnson bar" to move the tranny just enough to get the axles off when not lifting the engine/tranny.There's enough play in there without killing your mounts to flex and pry it off.But like Noah said,if you're lifting it'll pop off anyhow.I like to have them off before I lift more than a couple of inches just because they can be pushed aside sooner.Personal preference.I hate getting caught up while in the middle of all that excitement.
  2. uhh,I didn't mean people who've paid.Just prospective customers.Sorry, and good luck. I've never taken money and not done work. Here, they like to print your name in the newspaper when you do that. My experiences with John aren't perfect either but I also know him, like me,to take a long time to close things. But I strongly feel he's not doing this to make your life miserable.
  3. Flow,no we don't consider that rust free here either.I don't know what you paid for it but here for the rust that you mentioned the Brats go for $300-1400 depending on the condition of the rest of the vehicle. John is a great guy. But,just like me,he can be slow to respond or finish a deal.John, you are ok with me,no hurry to send those wheels.I know you're busy just like me.Send them sometime though. They'd make a nice Christmas present. :-p Talk to him on the phone. You'll get a lot out of the conversation and a better presence always makes things happen faster. You have to remember that he's up to his eyeballs in cars just like yours, for people just like you.I know his work is good and for that he's inreased his customer base severely.Being a small shop with little or no payroll I'm sure he needs to take care of the quicker jobs that are producing the higher profits.I don't blame him one bit.Having been a contractor I know that you just plain and simple have to blow some folks off sometimes. You can't spread yourself too thin, but you also need to keep the customer base stable if not growing. It's a difficult decision when you do this and it never sits well with anyone unless the contractor is a cold hearted SOB,which we all know John Bloom is NOT. John and his wife ran a memorial fund for a lost member. That alone tells me he's a decent person.Sometimes deals take some time to complete.I'm living proof. Telephone is best.
  4. once bitten twice buy,and then buy again, and again....then you get freebies coming from all sorts of places......aaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhh!!!!!! ....and before you know it you run the First Subaru Church or the Resurection and the choir boys are up to their ears in axle grease. :-p
  5. dagnabbit,I forgot yo call Johnny the welder today.I'll try him tomorrow.I need to call him for another reason too so I won't,er uh,shouldn't forget.
  6. Jason,I should have those. Now I know what you meant in your email.
  7. ....you mean as hard core as Paul *used to be*....man I'm getting old and it sucks!Third item I went to pick up on Saturday made my back kick my rump roast. Finally got some new workboots on my feel Sunday night but I think it was too late.Don't buy cheap "Scetchers" boot, they suck!I'll be buying some comfy inserts very soon. Why do the good boots cost soooooo much more? Operose, didn't you have my cell phone number?I feel bad that you made that run for nothing.Email me for a better time to get together. Guys,I still need to get stuff out so I'll be doing this one more time soon. Hopefully I'll have it all organized and indoors since the weather isn't going to turn the other way and run.
  8. Email me your address and I'll send the remnants of the goodies box.Basically you're looking at a few coasters, some WRC calender cards, driver cards,Subaru bags, and maybe a couple of stickers.I'll toss in some stuff I have laying around too. Maybe this will get me some decent 70's parts in the future when I need them..... J,I also have '75 doors (from 4WD wagon) and some other '75 items you might use.Let me know if you want any of the big items like doors, and that rear drivetrain,etc....
  9. I'd bet it's corrosion too.If your passenger floor got soaked you might want to check the harness and relay box(??can't think right now) located under the pass. front seat.Check the grounds too.I've used switches that were working perfectly only to install in the problem car and get the same result.
  10. No sweat, just hard to decipher some of what was laid out there.Still kind of confused but I'll live for another day. Cheers Just be sure to listen to the Pennsylvanian Panther,he'll steer you right.(talkin'bout Skip)
  11. sho 'nuff...be talkin to you. Thanks for stopping by.
  12. Brett, check the solenoid. We pointed it out on Sunday.Take it off and check the hose connections and electrical connections as well. I'm not sure I have any around.I bought one new from a board member for my turbo wagon. If you need a new one I can use my discount at the dealer for you. Also,I got a call from the welder. He left a message.I'll call him back tomorrow.I saw a (718)xxx-xxxx phone number called my phone. Was that you?Call me around 6-7PM tomorrow night and I'll probably have an answer on the welding. BTW,from the first sentence it looks like Connie married me and my last name is Sunday. :-p
  13. I can't understand exactly what you're getting at with your typos, grammar, etc. Is this some kind of whack at me for suggesting a timesert?Sorry that I didn't suggest an epoxy.Timeserts blow away helicoils.Next?
  14. Sorry,I grew up with an Italian grandmother right upstairs from me.I'm lucky I escaped under 200lbs. My wife thought I was nuts(probably right) because I wanted to save the stupid proof of purchase labels from Jenny-O turkey products to get a free lasagna pan with cover for travelling.....was going to be for Carlisle.Hey,what can I say, feed your Army! You guys all worked hard there, you deserved a meal and dessert! Today's menu? Hey,I won't be up there untill almost noon today......police take notice. :-p
  15. helicoil is a permanent fix if you intend to never remove that bolt again. I use the more expensive "time-serts" which allow you to remove the bolt/stud many times over if needed.Good luck.
  16. hats???...Maybe when you guy come down for the garage blow out when I get settled in a house. Jason,it's just a few stickers and coasters,WRC rider cards and some Subaru bags.I've got too much to do these next few weeks, sorry bud.I'll toss it all together and maybe, just maybe send the stuff out to you sometime in the future. Thanks again guys!
  17. By the time you'd get them they'd be vintage. Go by your dealer and lie to them.Make up some story about having a Subaru meet, lay it on thick.Bring some phony flyer you printed up.Show an STi on it and WRX,mention Impreza, they'll fall for it.They'll give you hats, stickers, pens, all that crap.
  18. My '78 would be a healthy mix of the items Todd listed. So,for sure it was a DL/GL,very rare, worth tens of thousands of dollars. ...or so I convince myself. Correct Mr.Todd....'79 begins the DL/GL badging. Before that it was all just talk amongst the neighbors.
  19. You're very welcome! Ridgefield police kiss our aftermarket exhaust !!!!
  20. Oh,yes that car is sweet.Didn't I complement this car once before?
  21. Well,I have Pat's 73 paid for just need to get the last of the transport funds in line.Costly. I had at least on GF coupe that had those seats way back in the early-mid eighties. Was probably my 2nd car ever.Mine was maroon with saddle interior. It was balls out bitchin for what 95 % of the American public laughed at.I loved that car.
  22. OK,one down and one to go.Achtung!!!Attenzione!!!! Sunday I have to cover kid detail untill around 11AM.I'll book up to the FSCR and hang from around noon 'till 5 or so....give or take a few. Thanks to the folks who showed up today!!I accomplished the big first step.I know it still looks crazy but it'll all iron out now.Good going all around.Brusbrother the prime motivator.Soobadooba and Bucky92 were great help too. Connie also did a wicked cool job on my grill for my turbo wagon. I should also than Ken for making the haul from VT.He brought our youngest Subathusiast. She's a doll.
  23. Early birds....no!!!! Actually if I have a good guy like you there..... I'll probably be there around 9AM the latest, but my reputation would tell folks that means 9:30. If you're up to it give me a call around 8AM and see how I'm doing getting out of the house. OK I'm going out for a little bit.Call me if you want or see you tomorrow.
  24. No problem, but for anyone else: exit 40 of I-95 when coming from NY and points west and south-go left off the exit,go to intersection and take right. It's about 50 yards from the corner on your left.See below. when coming from New Haven and points east and north take a left at the end of the exit.Go under the highway and straight through the intersection. at this point no matter which way you came from you're on the same road...you'll see a Shell gas station on your left, followed by a Dunkin Dognuts, and then the little industrial park my place is located in.It's called Industrial Park North,a.k.a. 230 Woodmont Road. You have arrived!
  25. Alaska eh??? hmmmmm.I use Alaskan yellow cedar a lot.Smells like weed when you cut it.I love the smell of it except it'd be better if it was unfertilized female Alaskan yellow cedar. I'd love to live there for a year or two and see what it's really like. So,I take it you won't be flying in for the event. No rain no rain no rain!!!!!!!!!!!!
