Need be I'll reggy two more cars.Might even have my turbo waon there.Going the clean route but not homo clean like Jay's LOL My engine is coming along slowly.I need a timing cover for the back(against the block) of the driver's side. My wife should have her Legacy as long as we stick to that plan I see no reason why I shouldn't reggy her car too. Still need to hear from wagon78 and a few others.I emailed several people today to light the fire under their asses.

Cool, send some pics.I'm getting frustrated trying to locate that sweet blue dash. I hear ya on the length of projects.Wanna see my ten year + restoration on my '66 Ducati? LOL!! Mostly it sat,not like I've been working on it much...or at all some years.Turn the motor, make sure it moves,go mess with Subarus. Actually that is almost done and I'll be taking pics this spring....err uh summer by the time it rolls out. LOL Ray,call me.I'm home all day today.

Russell, click on the USRM up in the left corner of the most of the pages on this board. That's the Repair Manual...a work in progress. CCR is very reputable.Lots of folks here have dealt with them. Good luck. I'll be in Harrisburg May 21-23 for the Carlisle show.Join us if you get a Subaru or not.

how to pack wheel bearings?
moosens replied to teasdam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Couple of things, working in reverse.... I agree, where do you get the good nitriles for that price.Sure don't see them that low here. More good advice there about NOT banging the inner race if re-using,which I've done.Flush, flush, flush all the old grease out and use recomended grease per front disk wheels or rear drum....go to a good store and get decent stuff-NOT Walmart's grease, etc. You don't need to spend a lot but going cheap bites you in the backside. Sidenote:NEVER use that Tech2000 garbage Walmart sells-oil,grease,tampons,whatever!!! Don't touch the stuff. GD There's plenty of shops here that'll do it quick and painless.Just ask your dealer who they use for a machine shop and go to them. The dealer sends out flywheels, heads, etc, etc all the time. They'll direct you should you feel totally uncomfortable about tapping them in.Like I said, even the Senior Master Tech taps them in so a shop is not necessary. One of those things you and only you can decide.Take our word for it.You can do this, but you do need to come up with a safe way of tapping it in. As mentioned,I keep an assortment of items to help. One way to do the outer is to have the inner one in,pass the axle through, and draw the outer one in with the castle nut and some large washers,or whatever you come up with. If you're going for a new inner seal I suggest a good cleaning of the old grease then apply heat to the bearing seats. The heat opens the hole enough to slip the bearings in.Helps to keep the bearings cold(MUST be wrapped if going in the fridge/freezer). You'll get a few different suggestions if you talk to a few people. You can do it.We're all non mechanics-with few exceptions. We come home from our day jobs and sometimes worry about screwing up but we all help each other and the jobs always seem to get done.Good luck.Remember, even the most knowledgable factory trained techs knew nothing about wheel bearings once too.Don't take that the wrong way please. Cheers Yes Dave, next I'll be doing a timing belts while stuck on the George Washinton Bridge. ....wait a minute,I'm setting myself up for a jinx here..... -

Well Jay,my turbo engine is out right now....you have made me hideously green with envy. I may need to invest in a little clean up paraphenalia. Looks Subaru porn to me too. -
Ready to see the CLEANEST 70's wagon ever!?
moosens replied to lastchance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You might see a wagon just like that at Carlisle. Wagon78's little brown 4WD wagon looks a lot like that. Klink, you idiot!!! You will be polishing old Subarus on zee Russian front!!! -
If I didn't have kids I'd have driven down, gotten my stuff, and mailed the decals to Corky. And probably have sent the remaining stock to Shawn too.But.....

Do I know the way?? I'll leave that one to die....:-p Sure, you can tag along but I'm picking my wife up,or meeting, depending on how many cars we drive,in Stamford at 4PM.....I do have a cell phone so you can call if there's trouble. I posted the directions on the SVX board in that post for the SVX meet in REading.I'm glad you started a new post.I'll swing over there and add to it. You think my posting the old '78 would generate some interest.Either that post is dying or the SVX crowd just doesn't get it.

how to pack wheel bearings?
moosens replied to teasdam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My Subaru master tech buddy put me at ease today.I need to do a bearing swap and always tapped them in with great care using whatever didn't destroy the bearing. So I ask him if he/they'd press them in for me if I brought him the hub.He gave me a laugh and said he taps them in-using the proper tool supplied by Subaru of course. Good square pieces of metal, good dowels, heavy duty washers,etc......these all come into play when "backyarding" a new wheel bearing in.But as long as you square it up properly and seat it fully without "walking" it in you can be confident. One of these days I'm going to score one of those little bearing packer tube things...but for now the hand packing works well enough. I once changed a rear wheel bearing on a half hour ferry ride and got the job done and tools put away with time for a coffee before disembarking. -

'87-89.....for D/R and SPFI In '87 they used up some carbs so you'll see both that year. -
That is a really really nice Brat that's worth the $3500 opening bid as long as you have the money. If it's kept like a classic it'll never be worth less than that. Not a money maker investment but it'll appreciate. And it has historical value. Good luck.Hope to see you back here as the new owner.

Pretty cool. The '74 sport mags I have were made in Italy.Same bead as your latest, right? Hey Brian,I really needed my turbo gaskets. Please don't forget me.I paid last week I think.Anyhow,I had to go get them at the dealer because I wasn't sure when you were shipping them.Still need it ASAP for the other stuff.Been sending a couple emails and no response so pardon me for posting here. Thanks -
It's a gathering for the whole country, not just the east coast. If you have a special Subaru or even an everyday, late model you're welcome at Carlisle. Plenty of folks show up from all corners, just check the license plates. Pennsylvania is a really nice state to visit.Lots to do in that area for adults and kids.Hershey Park,Harley Factory,Amish Country,Sesame Place is another hour away or so,all that stuff.....and cool CARS that you just won't see at your local drive in car gatherings.

So,where did you apply the LG?

Carlisle-the hotel/camping Update**
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, you're probably right.I should have pitched the tent and gotten everything soaked instead of staying dry and healthy.I should have taken the Army approach,no doubt. I camp, got all the goodies to prove it.But I also have common sense and a family to get back to.When I arrive and it's 11PM,38 degrees, raining and my wagon suits me just fine there's no thinking twice about it. Cheers. At this point I'll be concentrating on getting my wagon fit for the trip.Any restoration effort is out of the question this year before Carlsile. It'll have to win Best Unrestored Japanese Car or Truck Award. Good luck with everything and I'll check in now and then. -

No way Tony, you've got to shop around.Harrisburg is plenty close,as is York.Check those area out.I found rooms from $45 *yes,on the weekends to*. Motel 6 had several single rooms left and at lease one 2 bed at the H'burg location. The Carlisle/H'burg location also had like 2 single rooms left, but no double bed rooms. If you wake up in York or Harrisburg you're only about 15-40 minutes away depending on your location. It's a fairly quiet area to me so even the state routes are fluent and very nice to drive on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Yes,we slept in our cars last year at Pinchot St. Park.Got there and it was soaked, still raining, late, and who the heck wants to pitch a tent on wet grass for 6-8 hours sleep??Paid for the site of course, but if things are really tight and hey, you're single....just go there and do the car thing.THe showers should be running.Might want to call and check.Gifford Pinchot St.Park is highly recommended in good weather.
